Sonic the Hedgehog is seemingly hopping aboard the on-demand streaming bandwagon. In a now-deleted announcement on Twitter, Netflix is set to produce an all-new 3D animated series based on the beloved character.
Netflix has partnered with SEGA, WildBrain, and Man of Action Entertainment to produce the new show. The latter company has previously had a hand in creating the likes of Ben 10, Generator Rex, and Big Hero 6. The announcement was made a little earlier today, but the tweet revealing the project's existence has now been removed. Of course, a number of people screen-capped it:
As shown in the image, the show is apparently set to arrive in 2022, so there's a little while to go before Sonic's ready for his next non-interactive outing. In related news, the sequel to the successful Sonic movie is also scheduled for 2022. Assuming a game or two is coming between now and then, it could be a busy time for the blue blur.

Fingers crossed this is good! I thought the film was watchable and enjoyed it.
Guess we know one of the announcements tonight then 😂
I haven't seen the movie, but Sonic has a decent enough history with TV, so maybe it'll be fine.
Next year will be Sonic's 30th, so something's definitely happening.
I’m hoping for modern Sonic design and current voice actors.
This could be good but Netflix weren't you working on a Sly Cooper series that seems to have fallen off a cliff?
Bout time for his 30th Anniversary ain’t it? So I’m sure we will see more of the Hedgehog. Hopefully, his upcoming games don’t suck.
Oh hey, that's the guy from Sonic Boom!
@DerMeister still waiting for a Mania 2 announcement would be pretty great if it happened at the game awards
Netflix already has the international streaming rights to the first season of the hugely underrated Sonic Boom, so this seems like a natural fit. If they'd hurry up and add Season Two as part of this deal, then that'd be grand.
Cool! Still somewhat sour that sega wants to do another live action Yakuza movie though. That would also work better animated.
@RogerRoger Sonic Boom's show is so good, it's a shame the game was so unfinished it hurt the show's reputation.
@Darthroseman Agreed. I love a glitchy, broken Sonic game as much as the next fan, but I was actually kinda pleased to miss out on that one, not having a Wii U an' all.
Wouldn't mind a remaster of Sonic Colours at some stage, as that's one I do regret missing!
Depending on when in 2022, this could coincide with the movie's sequel.
No,.... no no no NO!!! It is worse than MS and Bethesda. What will be next? Mass Effect musical by Disney?
Weird that anyone bothers deleting tweets when the whole internet will have images of the deleted tweet anyway.
HYPE! I loved Sonic X as a child and Sonic Boom was "watchable", hoping the new series puts more emphasis on story over comedy.
