Update: As mentioned in the comments, once you’re done installing the initial 101.558GB download, there's a Cyberpunk 2077 patch that will download immediately afterwards which weighs in at 28.424GB. We're assuming this is the day one patch, although it’s possible there may still be more updates prior to the title's launch on 10th December.
Original Story: If you pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2077 from the PS Store, you can begin preloading the game on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 right now. The file size weighs in at a whopping 101.558GB, so you’re going to need to make quite a bit of space on your hard drive to squeeze it in. While this does include the day zero patch, it doesn’t yet include the day one patch which will presumably drop imminently, so we’d recommend getting this enormous download out of the way as quickly as possible.
It’s surreal seeing the game on our PS5 dashboard after such a long wait, but we’re really looking forward to getting stuck in. Early Cyberpunk 2077 reviews have been positive, although we haven’t had a chance to look at the PlayStation build just yet. We’ll keep you abreast of any findings on that front, and we’ll endeavour to bring you our own verdict as promptly as possible.

It's here!
I heard the game is full of bug, I'm glad I decided to buy this next year when I have ps5.
@get2sammyb Let's gooooooo. We got a city to burn
there is also a patch after you've downloaded the game, 28.24 GB
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Oh really? I'll add that into the article. So does that automatically begin downloading once the initial install is complete?
@get2sammyb had to prompt it myself, even though I asked PS4 and PS5 to auto download everything and even asked the game itself to auto download it did neither time unfortunately for me, auto download still seems sketchy
@get2sammyb apologies for the silly question but just to confirm is this file size relevant to the disc version? I presume it will be less if running from the disc but not sure with all the articles I am reading it seems no one gives a definitive answer.
Obviously the patch will be the same (~48gb) but what is the install size.
@Mostik it will be about the same. The game won't run from disk. Disk version will only need to download the patches of course but, install size will be the same.
I have this installed on my One X and its 59.3 GB, so I'm puzzled as why its so much bigger on PS4
I’m really really on the fence about this game. It’s been the game I was most looking forward to for so long but the lack of PS reviews or footage makes me nervous.
@carlos82 extra grass
@carlos82 Did you grab all the patches?
@Mostik I imagine it'll be the same, it's just you'll have less to download as some of the code will be copied from the Blu-ray.
@get2sammyb it downloaded the latest patch today at around 15GB and now its 59.3 in total, yesterday it was around 55GB
the 28.24 GB patch is for the digital version on PS5, I've no idea what version this is actually called, if it's PS5 version or PS4 backwards compat version pending next year's full PS5 update, probably between the discs and the different consoles it will have differing patch sizes
@stormyuk @get2sammyb thank you both for the response, much appreciated 👍
gonna wait like i did for days gone. ill jump in once most of the bugs are squashed
@Mostik the reason why is reading data from a spinning disc is relatively slow whereas accessing data from a hard drive is much faster. All PS4 games need to be installed to the hard drive for this reason. The only major difference is whether most of the data comes off a disc or through the internet.
6 hours to download 100gbs?
I dream of this kind of internet speed. 100gb would take me a week and a half.
@themightyant Thanks for this and I see what you mean, so the disc is really just to boot the game, it still has to install like it would if it was digital.
Is there a way then to install the game to my HD and not have to put the disc back in after the first download/install?
I had pre-ordered this but I guess I’m not gonna pick it up. My Internet is so slow. I’ll kill six hamsters that run in the wheel to power my Internet! PETA Will come after me. LOL
@get2sammyb Funny how it is named NO TITLE and has a broken image link when downloading.
Anyone in the states able to download it yet? The app isn’t showing that I can.
Mine updated about an hour ago and it went from 102.9Gb to 102.1Gb !?
No sign of any patch after that,but it's not unusual Sony ignore us in Scandinavia for a day or two extra tbh.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I can confirm after downloading the 28GB patch my game remained 102 GB, which makes me think it updated/replaced existing files.
Beware people, there could be some things that can cause epileptic trigger https://www.gameinformer.com/2020/12/07/cyberpunk-2077-epileptic-psa?amp&__twitter_impression=true
@get2sammyb you should make an article about this to warn people.
@Odium
I also tried to use the app to start the download but it wouldn’t let me. It turns out after I came home, my ps5 already downloaded the game, still the app does only list it under owned, not played... you probably need to start it for this which is not possible until the 10th.
@Mostik It installs from the disk to your hard drive, same as PS4 games, then it just uses the disc as an authenticator anytime you boot the game up. Of course, it will still download updates, but the majority of the game, if not all of it, should be on the disk. Depends on how much capacity they decided to utilize.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi
Does that actually add this much to the initial instal? Often patches are smaller than the space stated as needed for instal.
@Lobbo95 Good catch, and the site already has an article with the warning.
@TG16_IS_BAE Perfect thanks buddy 👍
@MemSec good to know, thanks. I’ll check it when I get home to see if it auto downloaded or not.
Please no more updates after this! haha. My PS5 has storage limits!
Edit: I am thankful the 28GB update has been incorporated into the 102GB
PS5 has 664 GB of usable storage right? Well Black Ops: Cold War and Cyberpunk take up around half of that and that's just two games!
@Mostik Yes the disc is just used for authentication.
"Is there a way then to install the game to my HD and not have to put the disc back in after the first download/install?"
No, not if you bought the disc version. You have to own the digital version if you want to play games without the disc in the drive. This is to prevent people selling or sharing games and then keep playing them.
Think I'm going to wait until the ps5 version releases tbh, got enough games to be getting on with at the moment. Think over Xmas will be the hardest, if I can hold out till after Xmas then I'll be fine. Hopefully when it does release on ps5 all the bugs will be sorted out.
My pre order won't even download on my PS5 and I have 250gb free. Will have to ticket Sony now which will take weeks.
The hype just died
@themightyant Nice one, makes perfect sense. Upon reading your response I feel like a numpty, if you could download to the HD then of course you could just sell the disc 🤦♂️
@Deadlyblack If possible you should make sure your PlayStation is directly plugged into internet through Ethernet. When I’m not plugged in and go wireless takes like 3 hours for 100gb when I plug it in it takes like 10 mins lol
@Mostik We all do at the best of times, always easy when you know the answer. Have fun
@Daleaf In the same boat. Theres going to be at least 2-3 weeks of cyberpunk guides, stories and anything to get clicks before the internet moves on. Get through that unscathed you'll be fine.
@Mostik Don't feel too bad. The PS3 (and earlier) played games from disc (didn't need to install most games), and for modern generations, there have been unsuccessful attempts allow you to install from disc, but then not require the disc again.
@thedevilsjester Cheers dude, I think that is where I got confused I thought if it was a disc then it wouldn't need to install to the HD but I suppose as said above the disc wouldn't be able to read quick enough to prevent texture pops & loading screens etc.
@Mostik The PS4/Xbox One generation is the first one to require discs to install to the HDD and just act as a "proof of ownership". The Xbox One did have a half baked attempt at eliminating the disc after install; but it got too much backlash before launch so they reverted it.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi same
Black Ops Cold War
Cyberpunk 2077
Fifa 21
Over half my storage gone.
They need to allow external storage soon
@Netret0120 100% agree. Sadly many will on here will say you don't need more memory.
@Jarobusa
Idk how anyone can complain about getting MORE storage.
1TB space should be the minimum at this point. Cyberpunk being 100gigs at launch with no patches/updates is just the beginning.
Think of all the other games to come. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2? God of War Ragnorok? They will easily clear 100GB and those are just single player games.
Black Ops cold war will easily clear 200GB by next year
@Netret0120 Many do. Look at past stories on this site.
Sony has to at least let us 'archive' PS5 games to an external drive.
@Netret0120 Not to play the devils advocate; but it's pretty easy to argue against more storage. The more you have, the more they will use.
It's an argument as old as technology (and perhaps, far older). If there is no reason to make the effort (to reduce file size in this case) then they won't. Restricted hardware has made developers push limits on consoles that just didn't seem possible, when you relax those limits, you get immediate gain, but lose out in the log run.
That being said, since Xbox already has storage expansion, that genie is already out of the bottle this generation and we will need storage expansion soon on the PS5 side to keep pace.
I doubt I will ever use up the provided internal storage in the PS5, even with playing/buying 100+ games this generation, so it doesn't really impact me, but I would still like to see the situation fixed, at least archive to HDD on PS5 titles.
I'm confused downloaded my pc version from GOG and it was only 59gig. Only thing I can think.is ps4 version includes patches
@wiiware and
Supposedly all the review versions are pre day one patch, so with any luck some.of The bugs will be fixed on release
@thedevilsjester
I see where you are coming from. I would like the option too to archive games to an External SSD.
Its just annoying how i have to constantly download/delete games I regularly play just to make space. I play COD for online. Ill be playing cyberpunk for single player. I play fifa with all my real life friends.
Id like to have GTA 5 installed for the online , Uncharted 4 for the underrated multiplayer etc at the same time so at least having the option to temporarily move them to the External SSD would be nice because my internet is capped. Cant be downloading games on capped internet.
@Netret0120 I think this mostly impacts people that play a lot of multiplayer games since there isn't any reason to keep most single player games around after you finish them, with exceptions for games that don't actually end of course.
Since I don't find any enjoyment in multiplayer games, I don't really run into any issues. I play a game, finish it, and delete it.
I would love more storage on my PS5, but I'm glad they didn't add it because it would have ended up much more expensive and ended up with even bigger supply issues.
More storage is always good, but at what cost? I just can't wait for the expansion options to become available next year
@Lobbo95 Maybe if you're susceptible to epileptic seizures you should just assume that ANY game - yes, especially futuristic games such as this one - might be a trigger, without needing any special warning that everyone will ignore (unless they're yelling at it to go away so the game will load, already).
I'm sympathetic to those who deal with this in their lives, but come on - why not insist it have a warning label that playing too much could result in lack of sleep that could affect your ability to operate heavy machinery or perform the duties of your job, too?
@suikoden Nope, I heard the game is so broken like fallout 76, you're won't have good experience at launch. It's okay to buy it at launch if you want to support cdp, but playing it on the first month is probably rough.
I pre-ordered with the CDKeys store but unfortunately I can't get the code until tomorrow .
@thedevilsjester IDK, you argue an interesting point that developers should do their best to keep the sizes of games to the minimum, obviously having to download and keep 100+gb can be downright off-putting to many (and not everyone has the PR hype strength to survive potential backslash like you know who atm). But I still feel like I should be able to get extra SSD storage if I wanted, even though I'm a gamer like you that mostly plays campaigns, finishes the story and deletes after, I like having a big storage and simply not having to worry.
Plus couldn't it have a negative impact on the quality of the content if studios have to think of keeping the size down? (Seriously wonder)
what version number is it with the patch
@skxnkwxlkr It depends on how you define quality. If I were to list my top ~20 games of last generation, at least 5-10 of them would be indie/non-AAA games, and their quality outshines a lot of AAA games. The same argument has been leveled against consoles for decades, with their extremely limited hardware compared to PC's; yet we have managed to get major block buster titles again and again and again.
Keep in mind that I am not trying to make the argument that we shouldn't have more storage this gen, just that there is certainly a case for anyone trying to make that argument.
@thedevilsjester I'm certainly talking about AAA games with huge budgets like RDR2, LoU2 or CP2077. It wouldn't make sense if those had to worry about a bit of data here or there, for a number of reasons. It really doesn't matter if the total size of such a game is 99gb or 110gb, plus hyped up players are very much willing to overlook flaws in general. Small games that just happen to (over)deliver with artistic value, storytelling, innovative gameplay/mechanics, etc. usually needn't worry about space to begin with.
Anyway, I note down your point about the storage case theoretically being picked by anyone. Pretty sure that someone would be a multiplatform gamer who would say that low storage space on the new gen consoles is not an issue. For exclusively PS players I think it matters a lot, as they spend all their time on one platform potentially playing multiple titles at the same time.
@skxnkwxlkr I exclusively play Playstation, no PC, no multi-platform (unless you count one or two games on Switch), and taking last gen as an example have had well over 150+ games over the lifespan of the PS4, and never once have I had to delete a title (that I am still playing) to make room for another (and I haven't expanded my storage ever). Based on my own anecdotal evidence, backed up by Sonys own statements, I would say its a non-issue for most people. I can understand how it can be an issue for those that play a lot of Multiplayer titles, or those that have a big family/shared console; but for the rest, especially those that sit with an average number of games over the consoles lifespan (~9 IIRC), its not an issue that needs solved.
Unfortunately we don't get to pick and choose which games get to push the limits and which ones must stay within certain restrictions so it's an all or nothing proposition. One of the reasons I abandoned PC gaming decades ago was because the developers had zero incentive to make current hardware work great with the games, they just operated with a "well, they can always upgrade to play the game as intended" mindset. I would personally rather not have that mindset infiltrate the console space.
I understand your point though, and agree. It's a zero sum game unfortunately, with no right answer; but its not a question that we should ever ignore or assume that our point of view is the only legitimate one (which was kind of the point of my original reply)
@thedevilsjester Yeah, you seem to be a disciplined & rational person, I know a lot of kids who start (and never finish) many games and those are likely to run out of space.
I always had an external 2TB connected to my PS4 but tbh with you, the more I think about it now, I was probably just spoiled and could have just as well lived and played without it..
Great closure though, you're right that we shouldn't ignore or assume that our point of view is the only legitimate one in any discussion.
