Hitman Dev IO Interactive Is Making a James Bond Game

A match made in heaven, indeed. Perfect fit.

This is great news, very excited about this! Bond has had a bad track record for ages with video games, fingers crossed this will correct that!

I was not expecting this announcement but I am pleasantly surprised.

This has SO MUCH potential!

Hitman is basically an excellent foundation for a good as hell James Bond game, but that probably means they're not going the action-focused route of GoldenEye 007 or the EA-era Brosnan games like Nightfire, Agent Under Fire and Everything or Nothing

Hopefully a linear or wide-linear adventure. I wonder why now? Do they know who will be the next Bond? Perhaps it's completely separate from the films.

Bond has a lot of gaming potential and delete me right this could be class.

Probably talking a release date of 2025 mind so perhaps best to not get too excited.

I remember playing Goldeneye when it first came out and thinking, "Now this is James Bond done proper." It would be cool if they gave us options on his appearance...I'd give it a go as Sean Connery, even though Roger Moore was my era's Bond.

Of course they are, lol.

Probably not but just speculating. I think a Bond game should be set in modern times but for the next Bond films I kind of think they'd be better being period pieces and maybe go back to where they first started in the 60's.

Although a 60's set Bond game could be a thing of beauty.

@Col_McCafferty It seems to be seperate from both the books and the films considering it's a new interpretation of Bond's origins, which were explored previously in both Casino Royale and the Young Bond series by Charlie Higson. It probably won't feature the next live action film Bond considering that would cause a lot of confusion since it's meant to be standalone

Just kidding of course, sounds promising and a good match of studio to IP.

I thought Craig's Casino Royale was a kind of origin story for 007? Doesn't matter, as long as it looks decent I'll probably get it.

This is great, I hope the game has puzzle-like levels design like hitman/golden eye rather than action only like previous non-rare james bond 😃

Excellent news. I do enjoy the Bond movies and the PS2 era games. Plus IOI is a good developer choice for this, they should be able to make a quality Bond game.

This was unexpected. IO Interactive is the perfect developer for a new Bond game and universe. Very exciting. But the timing of the announcement is odd. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was originally planned to be revealed at the game awards.

@TheFrenchiestFry I agreed with all of your initial post, right up until you added Everything or Nothing in the list of "action-oriented" games. With its huge variety of gameplay, workable stealth and preferable hand-to-hand combat, I think it's the gold standard for a more balanced Bond game, and the blueprint to which IO should hold themselves going forward.

But then I'm also a huge Hitman fan, so whatever they're gonna do, I trust them. They were literally at the top of my dream developer list for this project. The best of luck to them; I'll be enjoying Hitman III all the more in the meantime!

@Col_McCafferty I know that a while ago the bookies stopped anyone from betting on Tom Hardy being the next one because it was taken as a secret that had leaked out due to how many people suddenly started betting on it. Apparently they have at least offered him the role.

In before total chaos when it appears they're using the new Bond which is, of course, a woman.

@Matroska I think he's a great choice. An obvious one maybe but a great one nonetheless.

Who will direct though? Will it be Nolan? He's definitely up for a Bond film so the first one with Hardy in the lead role seems the most attractive choice.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!! Best piece of gaming news in ages. I feared the licence had died in lawyer hell after Activision let it go... The last few bond games haven't been great but I just can't help playing them regardless. With IO making it, this could genuinely be the best bond game since Goldeneye!

this hopefully will be good. I'm probably the only one that really liked Blood Stone when it came out - thought the story was good and the driving parts especially fun.

Hmm,potentially interesting licence given their Hitman pedigree. I wonder who's publishing it? I mean, it wouldn't be a cheap licence to get given older Bond titles were what Activision/E.A. etc. the last couple of console gens? (Last ones I played was Nightfire & Agent Under Fire on ps2!)

@Robocod Activision had the licence stripped from them, after they treated Bond like a cash-cow and rushed 007 Legends to market. Daniel Craig is also reportedly a gamer, and always hated lending his voice to the games (which is why he isn't even in the aforementioned 007 Legends, replaced by a soundalike despite getting top billing).

Reading between the lines, I think EON Productions wanted to ensure quality over quantity, and held back the licence until the right developer came along. IO gaining their independence in recent years is something they'll have respected.

And, as such, IO will be publishing it. Says so in the trailer.

Really excited for this, Nightfire was just brilliant when I was younger. Goldeneye Rogue Agent.... wasn’t.

@TheFrenchiestFry Honestly most of the Bond games made by EA were great, it was just that one rubbish one.

@nessisonett Yeah Rogue Agent was basically them trying to scramble for a reason to hold onto the IP rights for longer when Brosnan exited the role, so they took the cheap route and tried to play with people's nostalgia for the N64 game

But instead of GoldenEye it was literally a Golden Eye

@TheFrenchiestFry I'm not defending GoldenEye: Rogue Agent in the slightest, as it's every inch the cynical cash-grab you describe, but it had nothing to do with Brosnan's departure from Bond (which was informally announced a month before Rogue Agent shipped and, as terrible as the final product was, it took way longer to develop).

This is great news. Just recently watched all the bond movies in order and really enjoyed revisiting them. Its about time another great bond game was released and i think IOI could deffo pull it off. Exited for this.

Be great in vr if they do this even if its an add on later down the line
