A bunch of Japanese YouTubers got the chance to go hands on with PlayStation 5 recently, and as promised, their videos are live right now. While they don't provide a look at the PS5's UI or menus, we now have plenty of raw footage from several games.
There's lots of gameplay from the likes of Astro's Playroom, Godfall, and Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, all of which are set to launch alongside PS5. There's also some footage from Balan Wonderworld, which is a little further away. The video above contains footage of all four games, but we've embedded a couple more videos below for your viewing pleasure. Some of them show off the console itself too, and it certainly looks better in situ rather than in press shots.

Anyway, the hope is that, now Japan has had its top influencers have a go on PS5, some Western press and personalities will follow soon. Until then, there's lots of gameplay to check out. Do you like what you see? Have a watch, then tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.

Watched several. YouTube quality is so bad I think Sony shouldn’t have done this, it makes the games look awful. I wish I could understand what they are saying about the controller though, the controller snd SSD will be the most noticeable next gen elements early on.
Meh... We didn't learn anything new. Pre-recorded gameplay, it doesn't show great confidence from Sony, it's weird.
The press needs to play Sackboy A Big Adventure too, outside the gameplay footage we haven't seen its menu or if the pod and popit will be in this game as well
Wow, Godfall looks clunky. Especially when shown next to DMC.
@Cornaboyzzz Erm, isn’t it pretty standard to show pre-recorded gameplay? 😅
@thefourfoldroot So when Sony doesn’t do anything, everyone moans. But when Sony does do something, you..still moan?
@Cornaboyzzz
At least it was native gameplay. I get the impression it was recorded and edited because of how truly terrible these YouTube influencers are at gaming. It was hard watching the repeated failures and was thankful when they skipped ahead.
Share your disappointment that we didn’t see the UI, though I can’t say I was too hopeful of that to begin with.
The console looks so good and it is not that big.
@LiamCroft, well yes. Is it what people have been asking for? Nope. Is it stuff we've already seen? Yes. So it's still poor communication by Sony, and thus open to criticism. This was a strange series of events / engagements with YouTubers. I get that they needed to do this for the Japanese market, the "reveal" events were both in English, but it's weird we don't have EU and NA YouTubers taking part as well in similar events. What new things have we learned? That's the problem here. Also where are launch games like Sackboy's Big Adventure and Destruction Allstars? We're just over a month away from launch, and we haven't seen them. They've got to be in a ready to show state at this point. It's just very odd.
I hate You Tubers. I really, really do. Nice to get some new looks at stuff but theres only so much You Tuber I can bare.
@LiamCroft
I’m not moaning. I advised they should have streaming at a higher quality, and expressed a desire that I could understand Japanese, but neither of those things are moaning per se.
Of course I’m disappointed we only saw the same old stuff, but understand this was for the Japanese audience as everything has been in English so far.
Just watched some of the first video. Hopefully it hasn't driven me to murder the next person I see.😂
The console looks really good up close
Also the impression is the console is very silent and cool after playing ps5 games like godfall and dmc5 with RT, nice.
@SirAngry When did Sony say any of that was going to happen during this Japanese hands on event? Hint: it never did. People's expectations got completely out of whack — the UI was never going to be revealed by YouTubers and VTubers.
Call me a grumpy old git but I just want to see gameplay without having to endure Elton John shrieking over everything.
@thefourfoldroot They don't say anything Geoff Keighley hasn't already lol.
They were all surprised when the triggers became harder to press, and said it felt really cool etc.
@Mergatro1d
Lol, the wife said exactly the same thing about Elton John.
@TheIdleCritic
Anything about surfaces or elements like like wind etc feeling unique?
@thefourfoldroot yes, that the rumble felt really different when switching to different elements. Like water for instance the rumble in the pad would be moving around. I guess to emulate waves?
@thefourfoldroot also, now rumble is sometimes dictated by your button presses, not just what's happening on screen.
(Although I feel like that was already a thing, with FPS games and stuff, but I suppose maybe now it feels more precise and designed. Not just a generic rumble).
@LiamCroft oh dear, you've missed the point. It doesn't matter what they said would be shown. There are things they need to show. That they haven't. They keep showing the same things, and they keep ignoring the things people are asking to see, so yeah, they're going to be criticised every time they do any kind of event where they essentially repeat the same stuff. A month away from launch and still no hands on with launch games apart from Astro and now Godfall and DMC5. It is weird. Not as weird as MS not showing XSX footage of actual next-gen games, but they've shown a teardown and the UI and given it to people to do with as they please. This was a staged event (understandable) where again they showed nothing new. If you were dehydrated and asked for a glass of water and someone brought you a bag of salt, well, I think you'd have a right to be annoyed. Sony aren't communicating. They aren't listening to what people are asking for and whether that's justifiable or not is moot, it's poor communication.
@thefourfoldroot this kind of video/editing/marketing does work for a Japanese audience. Perhaps not for hardcore gamers, no, but in general this is what is liked in the region. As most people have said, hopefully it gets into western hands soon. But YouTubers are YouTubers, most western YouTubers are awful at games too!
@get2sammyb @LiamCroft Hope you guys will report on this:
https://twitter.com/Nibellion/status/1312691429291024384
https://dengekionline.com/articles/52523/
Although you have to watch out for stuff that can get lost in translation.
But generally, it seems the PS5 SSD is very impressive. Loading practically instantly once you day. So much that the game developers have to build in enough transitioning and/or a button. Otherwise it could get very confusing for the player.
I found the above videos fun. I live in Japan so I fully expected it to be just like it happened. I am actually surprised we got some additional details beside the games.
@TheIdleCritic
Thanks for the impressions. Hopefully it gets into the hands of people I can understand soon, but it’s not really that important. Needs a full tear down from Sony.
GodFall gameplay was cool. I like that we saw the real PS5 finally.
Wait what am I going on about?. Should be whining like everyone. Maybe send death threats...
People never learn.
@thefourfoldroot also, I'm not sure how to describe but the... resistance (?) can also change within the same press/action. So it can feel different from when you first start pressing to when you've fully pressed down.
I agree with you. I'm still excited for my PS5. But at this point I've kind of lost hope when checking the internet. I don't believe that Sony are "scared" or are hiding something like I've seen other people say. I just think they've approached this whole thing completely wrong. I'd be interested to see how many people they've lost who were on the fence.
@tatsumi
Good to hear it’s quiet. Not that the PS4 noise ever bothered me, but it indicates it isn’t reaching the limits of what is thermally allowed.
Looking forward to playing games without constantly waiting for loading.
Shame they didn’t get to see the UI at all, I presume it is still being fine tuned.
Ok Sony,its beyond pathetic and like trolling at this point, that you still haven't shown any vids on the ps5 UI.
@TheIdleCritic
Yes, my excitement is based on decades of playing R&C and GT etc and knowing how great they are, plus hopefully less blurry Skyrim VR snd other VR games, as well as finally removing/greatly reducing loading times and pop in / texture streaming.
Basically, if I didn’t know games snd consoles, Sony wouldn’t have done anything to excite me at all. I think they’ll be losing a large portion of kids who have only been gaming the last couple of gens, especially as they have less money so will be attracted to Gamepass.
@SirAngry
Usually I like your measured talks but here we are talking about a few video we just saw not about Sony strategy and so on.
'they showed nothing new. '
They showed the real PS5. I wouldnt call that 'nothing'. 😃
@JJ2 you do know people can be critical without sending death threats right? It's not a dichotomous choice between being enthusiastically supportive, or so angry you send death threats? People saying these videos were pointless for them, and that we learned nothing new of note have a right to express that opinion. I'll say it again, on March 18th Mark Cerny said we'd get a teardown soon. Now, he might operate on a different plane of existence to the rest of us, but, well we're on the 4th October now and it still hasn't happened. We're a month away from launch, no UI demonstration, and no preview of games from journalists. I get Covid-19 plays a big part in all of this to some degree, but when the other lot have shown way more I think it becomes less excusable. Sony's communication with gamers / consumers has been one note.
PS. If you think I'm normally level headed and even handed, and I'm saying that the communication from Sony is poor, maybe there's something to what I'm saying. I'm not a Sony hater, I don't go off on rants, I've not done here, I'm just saying they still haven't given consumers what they want. Which they haven't. Arrogance or ineptitude, at this points that's your choice.
@JJ2
To their credit, it wasn’t new that they showed real games running on the real console. People are also interested in features like the UI, trophy system, media compatibility etc though. Not as important as the games, but still good to know.
What's with the UI/menu obsession? Is it that important to anyone?
@SirAngry
Sure
But again I feel what your on about has nothing to do with these videos. Your on about Sony strategy. Different topic.
@JJ2 these videos are part of Sony's strategy. Did they not arrange these hands on sessions? Did they not promote them? Did they not stage manage them? I think they did, thus this is part of Sony's broader communication strategy. So what I say is relevant.
A Japanese company letting Japanese fans play the PS5 first? How dare they!
On a more serious note it is exactly what I was expecting. I wasn't expecting to see anything new at this stage. Usually important information is output globally.
@thefourfoldroot Yes. Same here. I know the calibre of games that they produce so I'm confident about that. But imagine having the upper hand (at least in terms of the PS4 generation) and botching the marketing and communication up this badly for the next console? I don't understand it at all.
The other features are not as important no, but they will be important to someone. I, for instance, will actually be using my PS5 as a media player and streaming. And considering that one of the launch accessories is a remote with a dedicated Netflix button, you'd think they would at least show a little snippet of how that would work/look in the UI.
@tatsumi did I see from those links that all of the accept/confirm commands on PS5 use the circle button rather than the cross button as currently? Is that a Japan-specific thing or is that going to be the new normal. Reminds me of how jarring it was pressing circle to jump in God of War in contrast to cross on most other games - I got used to it soon enough though
@Darylb88 I actually don't think giving hands on to Japanese YouTubers first isn't a problem, although technically you're wrong, they gave Geoff "new head of Sony Marketing" Keighley the first hands on impression. I even see how genuinely they needed to do this. Sony's official communication events so far have exclusively been in English, so they absolutely did have to do this for the Japanese market. Not everything has to be for the West, or more specifically the Anglosphere. However, it'd been nice to see more of the system software itself in action, it'd also be nice if we had an actual marketing roadmap from Sony as to when things they said would be shown will be.
@SirAngry
Well let's just say I'm glad we saw the PS5. Now how that fits into Sony strategy is an angle you can have if you wish. You can express yourself in a measured tone without overreaction like 'we saw nothing new'
😃
@NeuralDeclan
It’s always been a Japanese thing (except on Switch), but I believe it’s actually been confirmed X is confirm and O back/cancel even in Japan now! They won’t like that.
(See Tatsumi’s link above and read down a bit)
@JJ2 I don't think it was an over reaction. Do I seem like I'm the sort of person to react in a dramatic manner? Or be hyperbolic? You're happy with what you've seen. That's great. I am not. We've seen enough Godfall, and Astro's Playroom? Really? Just think a month out from release we should have seen way more by now. Seeing the PS5 in the wild might be a big deal for some, but I already knew what it looked like, so for me it wasn't a big deal.
@get2sammyb I mean I was expecting to see someone showing the menu and launching the game without all this editing. Sorry if I misspoke.
@SirAngry
I'm not saying I'm happy with what I saw. I said I'm glad we saw the real PS5 FINALLY.
Yes I agree, your not the type to be overreacting (from previous comment history) that's why I was surprised here.
@SirAngry Your salt/water comparison doesn't work because all you were promised was PS5 hands on gameplay, and that's what you got out of this.
As I've already said, it would be completely unrealistic to expect a UI reveal out of an influencer-focused event with an embargo that lifts during the night in the US. This was an event put on and advertised by PlayStation Japan for Japanese YouTubers for the Japanese market. These videos aren't designed for you. There aren't even any English subtitles from what I've seen.
Yeah, Sony does need to give us more info before launch and I'm sure it will. But trying to criticise this event that never, ever promised anything more than PS5 gameplay is ridiculous.
@thefourfoldroot it just looked like when they died in Godfall they were holding circle to respawn still, but given my total lack of comprehension of the accompanying text in Japanese it could well be them cancelling out of something instead
@NeuralDeclan
Oh, thought you meant at system level. No, games can still use whatever buttons the devs prefer of course.
It seems lots of people moaning in the comments again 🙄, I used to enjoy reading comments on push square as was always less toxic than sites like n4g, but now it is just the same. To be honest I'm actually happy to see the ps5 next to people, and as for the video quality, it will probably be better quality if watching it on YouTube rather than through a website. It shouldn't be long now until we see the UI and see western hands on etc.
@SirAngry So you know I was being sarcastic right? And I was talking about the current news cycle not JK's Dualsense demo a few months back.
I think it's great the Japaneses audience gets a fair turn after all the western coverage. This wasn't meant to be anything new so harms nobody! When Sony does share the important information, it will be globally like I said. I really enjoyed watching the videos.
@LiamCroft I'm not criticising the event, I'm criticising Sony's overall communication strategy, of which this is a part of. Everything Sony does, which is essentially the same as has already been seen, even if via different personalities, is open to critique at this point, and I think is fair game. This was a controlled environment staged by Sony. This is what they wanted to show, and given communication is a two way street every time they do something that doesn't respond to their consumer bases requests for specific information will be met with critique. That's just the reality. Just like MS are getting it in the neck for not showing XSX footage, as in games natively coded to run on XSX, not back compatibility games like Gears 5.
@NeuralDeclan In japan accept/confirm is the O/circle button, yes.
But actually it will be changed to X like the rest of the world.
@SirAngry But there's nothing wrong with the communication of this particular event. I'll repeat myself again: This was an event put on and advertised by PlayStation Japan for Japanese YouTubers for the Japanese market.
Did you see PlayStation Europe and US heavily promoting the event? No, you didn't. These videos aren't for you.
Hasn't Sony already said their was some really cool stuff coming about the UI? Patience people I'm sure all will be revealed soon. Still over a month and a half to go!
@LiamCroft and that's fine, I've even said as much in my comments above, but in a globally interconnected world these events are going to be picked up, and for the record fairly senior Sony Execs including Shuhei Yoshida did promote these videos, and did do in English as well I believe. The point still stands though, overall Sony's communication strategy around the PS5 has been poor. Is that my opinion? Yeah. Are others allowed different opinions? Absolutely, but when you say things like:
"So when Sony doesn’t do anything, everyone moans. But when Sony does do something, you..still moan?"
You are essentially saying Sony isn't open to criticism that they are above it, and that you shouldn't be able to critique them. Sorry, that's rubbish.
Some people are here just to whine- keep repeating same old reason - no UI, poor communication blah blah, meanwhile keeping praising gamepass. But never mention Xbox launch with zero new first party game. They talk like they will get all 3rd party games for free if they buy the gamepass while actually except xbox 1st party games, most of the games on gamepass are the same as those on PS now and the latter has much more games. Xbox current first party games don't hold a candle to PS's.The thing is most gamers don't care about UI, they care about games. Yes some care about trophy progess track, blah blah. This might not be at launch but the system is continually evolving. Maybe Sony just uses the same UI as PS4 like Xbox, this might shut up those few whiners. It is funny they keep commenting the same comment in every post here.
It is clear some Xbox fanboys just join here just to rubbish on PlayStation, they will whine/ moan whatever Sony do.
@SirAngry Now you're just putting words in my mouth so I'll be leaving this discussion here.
I never said you can't criticise Sony.
@SirAngry The thing is this is the PlayStation only site which criticises Sony a lot. Have you tried reading windows central and reply to its editor Daniel?
@Darylb88 I got the sarcasm yes, but the point about communicating to people in different languages is a fair point to make. These things are usually in English, and I get you can't do everything in Spanish, French, German, Korean etc. etc. etc. I do think it's good that events like this do exist in languages other than English, in fact I'd support way more hands on events in many languages. However, I kinda think there's a lot more that should've been shown by now from Sony. If you don't care about the UI, the teardown etc. that's fine, but plenty of people do.
@LiamCroft Ah Liam. Didn't we have this very conversation this week that people's expectations would be out of whack. Low and behold....
I am actually impressed/surprised we saw more than Astro's playroom tbh. Sony were never going to let random youtube channels unveil key info that we still need to see.
Expect a digital foundry teardown very soon. Some online have suggested stuff is due to be published today - which strikes me as unlikely given it's a Sunday - but i expect a lot of info to be on its way from next week onwards
@LiamCroft well clear up what your comment meant then, because that's my interpretation of what you had written, and it's why I responded. You're saying people can't moan or be disappointed in what was shown. If that wasn't your intent, I'll take some blame for misunderstanding, but you have to take some as well because I think my interpretation is a fair one to make given the implications of your words.
@Rob_230 We sure did! It's a shame to see.
@mrbone I'm not criticising Push Square though, and even if I was it wouldn't matter if some other site / publication was worse. Whataboutery is nonsense. I'm just expressing that people do have a right at this point to be critical of Sony's poor communication over the PS5, which a writer here implied they didn't.
This event in isolation is fine, and I have nothing against it, but it does not exist in isolation, it exists in an information vacuum Sony have created. That's their problem, and until they fill that vacuum they will continue to annoy people and take some flak. Some of it undeserved maybe, but we're a month out, and by now you'd expect to have seen far more of their product.
@SirAngry I mean Liam was completely correct in what he said.
Sony are being criticised for everything they do or dont do right now. They literally have been unable to say or do anything without attracting criticism.
No one is saying that Sony don't deserve criticism where its warranted. The build up to this console has been an exercise how not to communicate with your customers. Yet Sony clearly said what this event would be and so to expect any more from a bunch of random streamers on YouTube isn't Sony's fault.
Until the press get hold of the console and do a full tear down, we won't see much more than what was on display today. Those YouTubers will have signed all sorts of NDA's before being granted the opportunity to go hands on with the system.
Now yes its completely Sony's fault for not getting consoles out to the press first and revealing more info. In that instance an event like today wouldn't cause anyone to even batter an eyelid.
But it is what it is and Sony were clear what this would be. Sony deserve to be called out for their poor communication in recent months, but i dont really see the issue with today's reveals
Don't worry about a thing .... Coz every little thing gunna be alright
LOL, this place is an echo chamber,where people are whining about other people whining,plus i agree with SirAngry.
And on a different note ,a person sending death threats does not exempt game devs,employees or companies from further crticism ,either past,present or future.
@Yinx dmc will probably be 120 fps that's why, godfall is 60fps and think it's a glorified mash up of gow and assasins creed upgrade menu for weapons. Nothing trully new hence why I'm holding onto my pro for time being,I did manage to secure a ps5 but I'm not going full throttle with it until another year or so when games are cheaper. I only want demon souls and hitman 3. The rest of my games I will still play on ps4 pro due to alot of friends still playing on it ✌️
@Rob_230 also the fact sony are still trying to push the ssd to its limits before launch, hence why they held back before Microsoft, as they had a fully fledged console already built. But again it had no real games to showcase it, medium and observer remake will look dope on series x even series s. But consumerism is a crutch. I think Sony and Microsoft were to busy wanting sale figures before they realised what to do do with the systems in the the first place. Never rush a product but yet again they will and they do 😂
Godfall is getting harder and harder to ignore...
@Rob_230 Fair points all. Sony can't win no matter what they do right now.
It started with E3 2016 and then the cross-play debate and it's snowballed right up to the PS5 launch.
Some of the criticism is absolutely warranted, but some of it just feels, honestly, a little bit entitled.
If you go back to E3 2015, Sony set the bar so high at that event that it couldn't possibly be matched.
So the following year when people came back expecting more drama and fanboy fodder for their forums, and they got nothing on the level of the previous year's dramatics, they were furious (that was the first night I visited this site, actually. Looking for writers and a community with level heads).
Sony have been a popular target since E3 2016. People love to see the leader fail. Like the ABU crowd when United were winning everything.
I dunno. Maybe I'm just not fussy enough. I remember telling a story here after E3 2016 - In 1999 Gamesmaster sent someone to E3 with a camcorder recording a bunch of over the shoulder gameplay footage. If you sent them a fiver or a tenner or something they'd send you a VHS with the footage on it.
I remember rewinding the 30 seconds of shaky Resi 3 PS1 footage over and over and over and just re-watching it constantly.
Maybe I'm a product of a simpler time, but after Sony set the bar so high during the early years of this gen, it feels like people, maybe without even realising, kept expecting the bar to go higher and higher until expectations just become unrealistic.
Then again, some of the criticism levelled at them is warranted. But they're still a popular target. They badly need a major PR campaign.
@KathyQ OK, thanks. I was beginning to feel like an outsider seeing every single article mentioning the lack of info on the UI. I still don't care as long as they don't go full Microsoft with ads in the menu.
I'm more annoyed by the selection of games they were allowed to show. We've already seen enough of these games to know what they look like, and as viewers, it's impossible for us to get a tangible idea of what the controller feels like.
I wish they had shown raw gameplay of Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, and Destruction AllStars instead.
I'm glad to see youtubers sniffing the console to test it, the last thing I want is my ps5 smelling like an xbox 😂
@Rhaoulos. I know right i dont care about the ui.i want to be surprised.people making a big dealvout of nothing.word up son
I was disappointed — but not surprised — by today’s non-event. I preordered a PS5 and I am wondering when I will actually find out more about what I paid for. I don’t think I have ever bought something this expensive with so little info. @SirAngry, I am totally with you on this. Launch in 39 days, wonder what I am going to know before it arrives. I get some people like surprises. I don’t when I pay $500. I like assurances and confidence. This is not pocket change to me. When I see no information, heavily controlled and staged events, and cryptic teasers ... that doesn’t work for me (or a lot of other people.). As Tom Warren said: they didn’t even remove the plastic protector on the front of the device and it’s like nails on a blackboard. Yeah, that old metaphor works for me.
sony will promote the console for at least 6 years..so stop moaning for everything..no-one praised them when they advertised in champions league..that was a good move in europe..marketing isn't a single chess move..its a long battle over the lifespan of a product.
@SirAngry there's no "problem here". This was a stream with famous Japanese Youtubers intended for the Japanese market.
I know it might be shocking....but not everything is for you 🤷♂️
Design has definitely grown on me, these things are gonna look fantastic in my entertainment stand! 39 days!!
@koffing I'm glad somebody understands where I'm coming from. I actually know why they didn't just send PS5's out. Because they don't want people taking them apart, which I've been told is real easy to do, and it's intended to be easy. They have stuff they need to discuss at some point that exists on the inside of the box. Maybe part of it is they aren't prepared right now to reveal all of their strategy, which is baffling to me, but fine. Maybe AMD really have embargoed them as I was told two months ago, and maybe they have to wait until the RDNA2 event before they show of what they've done with AMDs patents. Either way communicate with people. The lack of launch game footage though at this point is... well it's crazy.
@talocaca I've already acknowledged the event wasn't for me, I've even said it needed to happen, in fact I said there needs to be more such events in multiple languages, so wind your chin in. The issue was people saying it's not fair to voice concerns or criticisms at this stage with Sony's communication strategy. Rubbish. They've been awful. As slick as their two online events have been they've actually said very little.
@God_of_Nowt I get that what I've just expressed on a Sony dedicated site might go down like a lead balloon, hell, I even expected it to, but I just couldn't allow the idea that Sony are above criticism to slide. I know many PR types are spitting feathers over Sony's poor handling of the messaging around PS5 so far. It's been dire. Truth is Microsoft haven't been great either, the whole "we don't need games to sell hardware" would have been a Don Mattrick level calamity any other console launch, but given Sony's impression of an Eastern bloc regime where no information is allowed it just slid on by. There are other issues, no XSX software gameplay still, unbelievable at this stage. The fact 500 games will be BC with XSS|X whereas I know it's nearly 4000 for PS5 should be a win, but Sony just aren't talking so they're missing these open goals Microsoft have gifted them. They've both been poor, but Sony have been worse in my opinion. Other opinions are available.
@SirAngry Microsoft is getting away with it because they have a good relationship with the press (Digital Foundry got to play Series X and S in March!) and imo the press is so enamored with GamePass that they lost their critical thinking skills. Also, Microsoft handled their failures well (Halo delay, leaks) and in some sense they are the gaming underdog after XBONE so they get a pass. They have done a very good job since Series S leak at sharing new info weekly (packaging, storage expansion prices, Dolby support, etc.).. heck I have even seen a “how XSX fits in Ikea furniture” article.
I get the sense that Sony is crashing right now and is behind on hardware and software just like Cyberpunk. There is some evidence for that. Airlifting hardware. The Spiderman Remastered ray tracing pics were old (devs said they had already improved the fidelity over what they shared).
Now, I am a Nintendo gamer so I am used to poor communication and higher prices. I think a lot of people here feel the way I do about Nintendo products. I would think “it has Zelda, what else do you need to know?” and I am sure some people here feel that way about Playstation. But I don’t feel that way. I am Playstation-curious, not committed. It would be nice if people opened their minds that we are all in different spaces and don’t think the same. The gaming world is big.
@koffing on the software side of things my understanding is the opposite. Sony got Dev kits into hands ages ago, and the SDK environment is exceedingly familiar and easy to deal with. So as I understand it Sony are far along on Software, and moving at a fast pace. I'm hearing the opposite from camp green. We have actually seen PS5 code running on PS5 hardware after all, whereas we haven't seen XSX code running on XSX hardware.
@God_of_Nowt I'm expecting the first teardown of the PS5 to happen on the 12th November when people actually get these things in there hands and back home. I also expect games to be reviewed a few weeks after launch. lol. Joking, well, about reviews any way... I hope. The teardown might not happen until after the 28th October from what I've heard. That's potentially going to wind a fair few people up.
@God_of_Nowt @SirAngry. Obviously Sony could fix all this by releasing more BugSnax footage. JK.
Well the 1st look at the PS5 is here with some crazy japanese guy playing Astro's Playroom looks interesting..Let's hope we get some more PS5 details soon and a look at the UI and a console breakdown by Digital Foundry soon !! Come on Sony get your finger out and give us more details now ie UI,back compatability info and SSD size and load time just like Xbox have given us !!!!
@SirAngry "The fact 500 games will be BC with XSS|X"
What? All og Xbox and 360 already BC games and all Xbox one games except the ones using kinect will be BC with XSS/X. So that's a lot lot lot more than 500 games.
@God_of_Nowt Another thought. I used to play online in the late 90s and I remember all the modders and cheaters and threats and just people going on and incoherently cursing everyone out. At the time, I was befuddled like.. who are these people? That was my first real experience with the internet pre-social media. Then fastforwadd to the early 2000s where I ended up in an internet cage in a South American country. And I saw high schoolers and middle schoolers doing exactly what I observed those years ago and realized that I had only thought North Americans were playing (dumb me) and never imagined that foreign speakers learning english — who had no understanding of the seriousness of what they were or weren’t saying and struggled to speak english — were probably a large part of what I was experiencing online back in the 90s. Ahhhh the world is so big.
And yes I want more Bugsnax.
@CedAlastor actually they snook out only 500 or so games are confirmed to work.
@SirAngry "With more than 100,000 hours of play testing already completed, thousands of games are already playable on Xbox Series X today, from the biggest blockbusters to cult classics and fan favorites...
By the time we launch this holiday, the team will have spent well over 200,000 hours ensuring your game library is ready for you to jump in immediately."
https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/05/28/xbox-series-x-next-generation-backward-compatibility/amp/
@CedAlastor Yes, that was an article from May. Now, much more recent hands-on reports from people who received a Series X said that about 500 or so titles worked, and many games they tried from previous gens they were not able to get running on the Series X.
Whether or not that will be expanded on or released with future patches I’m not sure has been clarified. This is just going off of the reports from Youtubers who already have the console.
@DeepSpace5D Yes, I see what you mean. These same youtubers are also saying that the console is being updated multiple times a day, so I'm pretty confident that everything will be ready for the release of the console Nov. 10th.
I really hope It'll be the same for the ps5. But it's clear that both Sony and Microsoft need to clarify some things about BC, like give us a simple list of what games will not work on both consoles.
Nice!! It's so funny to watch Japanese videos. I can't understand a single word, but they express themselves way more "dramatic" than Brazilian videos.
And you know what, Godfall is actually looking interesting now. Also looking forward to Astro's, from footage it seems to be the Wii Sports of PS5, a quick way to understand the new controller.
@CedAlastor sorry, didn't see your comment, as @DeepSpace5D it's based off of what YouTubers have said, and what MS told them BC is more limited. Will it improve? Almost certainly, but 500 hundred is considerably less than the thousands promised. There have been some seriously backtracking from MS over the last few months. They've just been lucky they've had some good news stories like purchasing Zenimax, and the fact Sony have been pretty bad at getting news and info out, moreso than Microsoft.
@Yinx yea it does, hoping there is a Framerate mode for it maybe get the 1440p 60fps
Just be patient, soon we'll forget about all of this. The wait for the next gen is causing all of this drama as different people have different expectations, remember you cannot satisfy everyone. Sony wants to satisfy the consumers but they also have to keep the big bosses the shareholders happy. decision making isn't as easy for me to say yes and you to say no when we both are responsible for the same thing there are clashes internally that we're not aware of.
@SirAngry... Well aren't you EU and NA guys entitled *****........ SONY IS A JAPANESE COMPANY SO HAVING THEIR UPCOMING CONSOLE FIRST HANDS REVEAL IN JAPAN ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE AND NOTHING HERE HAS ANYTHING DO NOT WITH MISS-COMMUNNICATION..... The original Playstation launched first in Japan....
.. XBOX IS OWNED BY AN AMERICAN COMPANY WHICH MS AND GUES WHAT THEIR CONSOL HANDS ON REVEAL WAS IN.... YOU GUESSED IT... IT WAS I. BIG U. S. OF A...... YOU MOANING IS LIKE ME MOANING THAT XBOX SHOULD HAVE ITS HANDS ONE REVEAL IN SOUTH AFRICA WE'RE I'M..... Its Japan's turn...... So all you EU and NA boys chilled in your prams and don't trow your toys out..... Not everything in the world revolves around EU and NA.. Chill the f up and wait your turn cause surely EU and NA are Playstion's biggest market and you can bet your left ball Sony will not launch with giving you EU and NA guys a nice Blowjob like you moan so much for it........... Learn to put other people first.......... Sony definitely does not derse all this nonsense bad press.... I agree with @LiamCroft it's like Sony is doomed if they do and doomed if they don't...... How can any of you guys expect a Japanese company to skip the people of its country first......
Maybe Xbox should have done the hands on with media from here in Africa and we would see how you guys would have felt then............... Once again kids in case you forgot the lesson here is a recap SONY Corp is a Japanese company fist and foremost..... Please let's not forget that......
@SirAngry..... And while you are at it don't forget to ask WHERE ARE ALL THE XBOX SERIES X LAUNCH TITLES.... ACTUALLY WE HAVE NOT SEEN A SINGLE GAME RUNNING ON XBOX....... DOES THING EVEN RUN OR PLAY GAMES OR IS IT JUST A GAMEPASS SUBSCRIPTION FRIDGE......... Please be balance on your critism and not be one sided like you clearly are currently.....
@SirAngry.... You really are having an off day regarding this event......... You are usually the most minded, articulate and generally well rounded and analytical person in the comments section........ You just mentioned to @LiamCroft that "It does not matter what they said will be showed".... SO Sony say they will be having the event on the said day and even mentioned what would be shown........... And then here you are angry and moaning cause what ever Sony clearly stated does not matter cause and you want to be angry with them...... PLEASE TELL YOU DO SEE THE FAULT IN YOUR LOGIC AND KNOW THAT YOU YOURSELF MADE. YOURSELF ANGRY AND NOT Sony.... Cause they specifically told everyone what they will be doi g with this even but who cares cause "It does not matter what they said will be showed" only thing that matters is what you demand to be shown..... Wow... Just Wow..... Talk about life problems or first world problems indeed...
@GREGORIAN you could really do with reading everything every one says in a thread before responding. It'd save you looking like a tool. In my very first comment #9:
"I get that they needed to do this for the Japanese market, the "reveal" events were both in English"
Or #42:
"I actually don't think giving hands on to Japanese YouTubers first is a problem, although technically you're wrong, they gave Geoff "new head of Sony Marketing" Keighley the first hands on impression"
Or from the same comment:
"Not everything has to be for the West, or more specifically the Anglosphere. However, it'd been nice to see more of the system software itself in action, it'd also be nice if we had an actual marketing roadmap from Sony as to when things they said would be shown will be."
Or #53:
"Just like MS are getting it in the neck for not showing XSX footage, as in games natively coded to run on XSX"
Or #61:
"These things are usually in English, and I get you can't do everything in Spanish, French, German, Korean etc. etc. etc. I do think it's good that events like this do exist in languages other than English, in fact I'd support way more hands on events in many languages"
Look, if you're going to have a discussion with somebody you need to at first read what they've said, rather than what you hope they've said. It'll stop you looking like a fool.
@JJ2... It's being angry at Sony is in vogue.... There are things we can get angry at Sony for but this event is not one of them........ This was a Japanese only event for the Japanese gamers and nothing to do with the rest of the world... How is this for the western gamers to understand.....
What I am doing I should be angry at Sony for something..... I do not know....... I AM JUST ANGRY AT YOU SONY YOU HERE ME.........
@hulkie..... So tell me something..... How much time in your gaming sessions or when you use your Ps4 do you actually actively pay attention to the UI if it's SO IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO SEE THE PS5 UI SO MUCH........... MAYBE SONY SHOULD TROLL EVERYONE AND RELEASE THE PS5 WITHOUT THE UI
@SirAngry.... Sony Japan is not Sony's customer base.... Mmmhh good to know that the only important gamers are only from the EU and NA stuff the rest of the gamers in all other parts of the world......... Wow gamers are a lovely bunch............. So Sony Japan Studio based in Japan should not engage with their Japanese gamers cause only EU and NA gamers are import.... OKAY GOT IT....
@LiamCroft.. Thanks Liam please keep hammering the message for the masses... I think @SirAngry has had his namesake drink today I think he drank Moaning ALe or Angry ALe today cause his the most level headed commenter on your site but today he is completely off form............
Like why are western gamers pissed off about a Japanese arranged, Japanese organized, Japanese marketed by Sony Japan Studio only and specifically for the Japanese gamer market....... I guess it's get angry at Sony time in this last month pre-launch of the Ps5....
@GREGORIAN facepalm, you really don't get the criticism I'm levelling here do you? To spell it out for you, even the Japanese YouTubers were critical of their "hands off" experience as one put it, because they weren't allowed to access the UI or other console features, or even touch the system itself. My criticism is that of the YouTubers themselves, this would have been a good chance to actually answer some of the questions people wanted answering. But nope. Also I literally said I wanted more hands on experiences in more languages, if you can't read and comprehend you shouldn't respond.
@SirAngry... But Liam Croft has critisied Sony also...... He never defends unjustifiebly and never suggested that Sony is immune to critism..........
Seriously dude what wrong today.... You are not normally like this.... Did your dog or cat die........ Please tell so we can help with your grieve as you are incorrectly directing it at Sony for this event for no reason......
@GREGORIAN nope what happened was Liam commented and suggested that people couldn't and shouldn't criticise Sony. Sorry, but I thought that was rubbish, he could've clarified his comment, but he hasn't, a d that's fine, that's his prerogative, it is mine however to call out any companies BS wherever and whenever I can, or to critique their strategy as I see fit. You're welcome to disagree, but not mischaracterise my comments like you have done here, my criticism is that Sony aren't being open. Quite frankly I'd have expected Sony to arrange hands on sessions for the likes of Liam by now, why? Because developers have been getting retail PS5's for over a fortnight now, maybe longer for the likes of Dice and the big boys. Sony's forward facing communication strategy has been poor, and this was another example of that. I think I know what they've got to show, and I just don't get why they aren't showing it.
@rachetmarvel...... I bet in your job if you had someone micro manage you and question or correct every activity you do in your job you would not think that's far....... Yet is all roses to critisise behind your keyboard or phone on the internet......... Have you and SirAngry considered that perhaps it's Sony strategy to use the crumbs communication and word of mouth........ Like they know that MS have nothing to offer except GP and hence there is no pressure on them to rush and they will Communicate all when ready to....... Like if you so annoyed by them then why go ahead and get the xsx/s.... I bet you have not pre-ordered and will not buy it until the Ps5 shows its full self and don't you think that is exactly where Sony want you to be............... They will flood is with all the info very much closento launch to make so much noise that people buy it blindly cause it will be the collect tech launching in November and in 202 in general and thats including iPhone launch and Nvidia cards............... Right now Sony is giving everyone a lesson on how to play poker using the poker faces..... Right now they are holding all the cards and no one can read their game and that's how the keep the gaming world on their vise grip....... They are masters of this thing......... Nothing happens in gaming before Sony says anything that's the level they are playing in and that is what Microsoft want they are not interested in games they want the vise grip that Sony has in gaming.....
@Shepherd_Tallon.... Dude yours is the comment or post of the day....... Nothing can top it like e3 2016
I am Liverpool by the way(from South Africa) and you are correct on us Abu wanted to see United fall under the Ferguson Era.....
Sony is suffering for being absolutely top of the game for 25 freaking years and it's like only have to keep raising the bar... What about the others......... Surely forced Drm and PR good market and consumer brownie scoring point s on the price but it's still DRM and this is what MS have come up with after a generation of time to innovate and raise the bad.... But apparently this new MS Drm is now the best since slice bread
@God_of_Nowt and @SirAngry.... It's not that you are allowed to critique Sony...... We all are a bit pissed at them about something or another..... It's just that the two of you today sound less like devs (you guys normally share in site into gaming that we would not normally be exposed to and sometimes it's embarrassing to be in your presence cause you knowledgeable guys and you know your stuff) and more like entitle fan boys particully MS fanboys...........
@Rhaoulos... I think Sony should just troll the UI moaners and release the Ps5 almost like no UI like the ps1 and just have the game menu pop up when u insert the disc or have an icon for game for the digital stuff then one icon for social media(internet etc), one icon for then connection (USB, extra SSD or hhd ect) and then a last icon for PSN(PS store, PS plus, PS now) and leave it like to just piss off even more all the UI entitled moaners
The craziest thing in gaming in 2020 is that western games are so addicted to User Interfaces..... It's also the one thing that Fifa gets praised for and Pes gets shat on every single year...... Like what gaming experience or value do you get from the UI........
If the UI is so important then The Witcher 3 should get a massive downgrade in its rating cause it has one of the s****iest UI in gaming yet no one bat's an eye on it...... But it's all doom and gloom cause Sony has not show the Ps5 UI
@RBMango Sony you want a billion dollar organization to only cater to you....... And stuff everybody else even their own people in Japan has it occurred to you that they wanted to do a game play showcase to drive more PS5 communication in Japan before going full blow worldwide...... Everyone has seen what was shown that is most likely a given.... But with these same games we have seen they were specifically communicating the features and feel of the console directly to the Japan gamers so why is it a problem to you......
@DualshockInfinit @DualshockInfinit and @Sheper_Tellon have closed this comments section with your comments/posts they are a pick above the drivel in these comments
Definitely don't want my PS5 smelling like a Phil Spencer scented XSX/S....
@GREGORIAN
Hahaha
It's just people overreacting and pushing air around.
I think it made Japanese people happy and it did move the needle a little bit.
And it gave us nice memes with these fun youtubers haha
@GREGORIAN wait? what?
@fatdragon.. Well until Xbox gives us the same quality games and exclusive games as Sony have done this generation.... Them Sony are really in no pressure to do what Xbox does....
@GREGORIAN I am really curious, what are you trying to say? I only just saw all of your executions against these guys. I just left something that I thought was funny and am not a fanboy of any kind so don't lump me into this argument.
@God_of_Nowt I am having a really weird day... I've been called a Sony fanboy, and hater... I've been accused of being an Xbox fanboy, and hater... thank God I didn't say anything about Nintendo, I'm feeling schizophrenic enough. I give my honest opinion always, and I try to be informed when I give it, don't always get things right, but the idea that I would tie myself to a corporate banner of any kind is thoroughly bizarre to me. I'm an anti-capitalist forced to live in and work in a neoliberal world so I can keep myself supplied with gin to numb the pain of existence... and occasionally buy a bag of crisps. The idea I would somehow shill for these monolithic entities is anathema to me, so @GREGORIAN is just so far wide of the mark that perhaps the thing he's accused us of, is the thing they themselves are guilty of.
@SirAngry I'm going to quote one of the greats when I say this...... WORD UP SON
@SirAngry.... Well aren't you are miss fortune teller for correctly guessing I was responding to your post without reading...two platinum very rare trophies for you.... Good job.......
As you can see Push Square does not show which comment a person responds to so u have to use your logic in reading someone's response to know which of your post they are responding to....
Liam was responding to @thefourfoldroot when he said that "Sony should not have done this event", which is bonkers cause the event was exactly as announced and its part of the overall "communication" we are all not so pleased Sony is handling they way they have been, hence his "doomed when they do or when they don't" comment as this is the Japanese part of the overall "communication" which Sony clearly said it would be as it the event went.
Then you came in with "... Not what people asked for" in an event that went as it was announced which is shear entitlesm(not even sure that's a word)...... This was just a hands on for the Japan market and that's what it was and how it went but you are projecting the overall dissatisfaction of the general worldwide communication on this event which has nothing to do with the west. That is why everyone who is seeing the event as exactly what Sony said it would be has respond to you in this section comment. Not to shut your opinion down but to alert you that u are overreacting to the wrong event.
Sony will showcase the PS5 worldwide before release and anyone with sense of kind knows this....... Cause there is no way a Multi billion dollar international company with freaking investes would not do a porn presentation of their upcoming heavily researched and invested product to wet everyone's eppetite to part with their cash in their wallets.... Everyone else is just throwing theirs toys out of the court.....
@DualshockInfinit..... . Nah these dudes got sand in their v****nas over the general not so conventional communication coming from Sony we all are kinda in measures pissed about and they are projecting that sand over this Japan only event for no reason......... And try to accuse PushSquare of something they never said or did......
@GREGORIAN the problem is pre-orders went live without key information being available. For the record many of these Japanese YouTubers were actually critical and frustrated with the access granted. The trouble Sony have right now is that their closest competitor is being way more open and has shown way more. So in a comparison they don't look good right now. But for balance Microsoft's problem is that they've shown nothing running on XSX. That's not good enough either. I don't get it too, I know of two games at least that are definitely up and running on the XSX, they aren't fully optimised yet, but they should be showable, ones a launch window game for Pete's sake. So, when compared to the plethora of games shown running in the PS5 I do find that unacceptable and odd. Neither corporation has a pass with me. Can you say the same?
I can do whiskey too, and rum. Not much if a vodka drinker, but most spirits I'll imbibe.
@JJ2..... It's dope the Japanese Youtubers enjoyed it....... I am black dude from South Africa and in my country the Afrikaans language is spoken by white Afrikanner folk.. Yet I was over the moon when the soldiers in Kenya in Metal Gear Solid 5 were speaking Afrikaans...... It meant the absolute world... It meant as a game community from South Africa and Africa we are recognize by the general game dev community... That is a big deal...... So you can I image how the Japanese are feeling right now and how it would have felt if Sony decided hands on first to western or worldwide...... It would potentially give the whole Jap market to Nintendo as the community in Japan would have felt Sony to have shifted from being Japanese routed to being western specificatllly American..... This was absolutely fital for Sony and you get western people projecting their western entitlement on this event.... Sometimes games can change the world.... Sometimes we're are sad bunch........ And all we should be doing is enjoying this wonderful experience of gaming being a part of life for us to enjoy.
I mean for people to think Sony with all the R & D and money that went into making this thing would launch it without making sure everyone wants it is completely borderline assulym insane.......... L
@God_of_Nowt I'm trying to convince a former contract manager to let me hop on a train and have go myself. So far he's not having it... and I helped him move flat... twice... and he had way too many books!!!
@God_of_Nowt if they're in the hands of studios now, they should be getting them to journalists soon I'd imagine.
@GREGORIAN
Yes gaming is fun and I like that it can connect everyone in the world with the same passion, the same fun.
@GREGORIAN you have to think more modern and more troll.
First load with a broken logo when the ps5 OS isn't up to date/not connected to the internet like the good ol' days of cartridge games when the game didn't load and you had to blow in it.
Then display a white screen with a QR code that you have to scan with the sh*thiest phone app, create like 3 different Sony related accounts, one of which would never send you the activation email, before being able to update the system, then update the game. Only then you'd be allowed to play a game with barely any load time (after 3 hours of getting setup). PS5: trolling has no limit
