We've seen what a Bloodborne PS5 remaster could look like, but after watching this latest video from YouTube channel SnazzyAI, that's not the only next-gen upgrade we're praying for. This new clip shows us what The Last of Us: Part II could become with a 4K, 60 frames-per-second update, and it's a thing of beauty.
Fans of the series will remember that The Last of Us Remastered had a 60fps performance mode on PS4, and it was silky smooth. Thankfully, a lot of PS5 games — especially cross-gen ones — appear to be offering similar options. If Naughty Dog decides to bring Ellie's second adventure to PS5 (which, let's be honest, is highly likely), we reckon this kind of performance is a lock, so you can consider this an early look at what's to come.

Would be nice for it to be a patch. After Spider-Man, I do not see that happening and it’s more likely to be a paid remaster.
The Last of 30fps
God that joke was awful 😅
@nessisonett This game JUST came out, so asking people to buy it twice in the same year is ridiculous, IMHO!
If anything, they should make the PS5 upgrade free, and then bank on the good-will earned from players makes them compelled to spend $$$ in the Factions mode (that they still haven't revealed yet, darn it!!!).
Tlou 2 and Ghost of tshushima is one of few games that have really smooth 30 fps, after seeing miles morales 30 fps gameplay vs spider-man remake 60 fps gameplay, now I want more visuals rather than framerate, as long as it's smooth 30 fps.
I don't care about the resolutions though, I rather have games that sacrifice resolutions to have great visuals and RT rather than the framerate.
@wiiware 30fps isn't smooth though. You mean consistant.
I only care about Factions now. I got my fill of the SP.
I found it great but I’m even struggling for a second play though to finish off the outstanding trophies haha!
Lol I think people are going a little crazy with the whole 4K graphics 60 Fps thing, what’s next 8K 100 fps and also injected in your veins
@Medic_Alert ha! I loved this game. On my third play through currently while trying to platinum it. Must admit I do skip the cutscenes though. Too much to watch them more than once
Can’t wait for Sony to charge £69.99 for this.
@jamberino93
I struggled to even finish my first playthrough it was painful
They are going to make a remaster of this game next year just like tlou 1 when it came out the same year as ps4 and they did a remastered version the year after to sell it that’s why i wont buy it till i see how it will work on ps5 backward compatibility same for goes for ghost of tsushima
@StonyKL I’m going for the platinum too, and I agree. Some of the cutscenes i skip - mainly cause it’s too emotionally draining!! Hahaha
I swear if Sony charges for another remaster
Especially of a game that came out THIS YEAR
I'd be more interested in the faster load times. It already looks fine to me on the Pro. But then I'm a rube so if they want to upgrade for the philes go for it.
There's no way that Sony won't re-release this on PS5 as a new SKU instead of an update, just like TloU.
Maybe it will come with Factions 2 to sweeten the deal a bit.
Played it. Loved it. Platinumed it.
It's already been confirmed there will be a remaster release with a new trophy list, extra clothes, etc. The guy who did the mocap work for the new Joel said the reflections will absolutely be worth the double dip
@TheFrenchiestFry they will tho remember the last of us 1? Unless they just make it better through Bc which i doubt it
@Flex_huusko I imagine TLoU Remastered will probably support faster load times and improved resolution through Game Boost but I'm not expecting 60fps
@TheFrenchiestFry thats why they will make a remastered version next summer that supports 60fps and no load times just like spiderman also just like they did 6 years ago with tlou 1 remastered with the game being 60fps on ps4 and they will probably announce factions with it too
@Flex_huusko I mean
Why would they remaster a remastered game
The Last of Us Remastered: Remastered sounds super stupid lol
@TheFrenchiestFry lol no i meant the the last of us 2 will be a remastered for ps5 😅😂😂
I still haven't bought this. Will have to wait for the Remastered Ps5 version just for Ellie's entirely new face.
Looks even better than before even on my 1080p monitor. Sign me up if the Sony doesn't try to get some incentive out of it.
The fact that Sony haven't announced free upgrades to either this or Ghost suggests they aren't going to offer a free next next gen upgrade, otherwise they would be singing it from the rooftops.
The only 2 things that make me think I could be wrong are:
1) They've been very quiet in general
2) They've been losing the narrative of late and need a few wins, these would be a couple of easy ones.
They both released within 5 months of the PS5. If I had to bet i'd say they wait for 3-6 months and release a "remastered" version
@themightyant No, they're going to have "no comment" on updates or remasters and will wait a good year before announcing a remaster sometime the following year, to cash in on the normal sales, and the hopeful people that buy assuming they will have to patch it. Then they'll drop the remaster to ensure maximum double dipping.
If they had any positive comment they'd have made it by now. They dropped 2 new games over the summer, ducked and covered, ignored how BC and patching works, and are testing the whole "resell the same games with some updates every gen" as a model. I'm hoping that model hurts them. Spidey they'll get away with, unfortunately, because it's Spidey and is bundled with a new game. But they've really lost the narrative on BC. Even freaking EA is beating them.
I assume they watched people gobble up WiiU games on Switch at full price and wanted in on the action. Not sure the dynamic plays the same between the market leader console and a console only 12m people bought, but in the board room it probably looks the same.
I don't know. I don't see a difference in comparison with current PS4 pro state of game. I do agree that 60 fps is smoother, but i have played a few games that were 60 fps and didnt even notice. I thought its stable 30 whole time.
Well that's........woof.
@NEStalgia Agreed. Except the bit about the WiiU. I think Sony are more looking at the sales of Last of Us (One) and how the PS4 Remastered version outsold the PS3 version. There's still a lot of sales in both those titles.
Before I rant I should make clear I have a PS5 pre-ordered and am hyped for it. But at the moment Sony is making a lot of unpopular business choices e.g.
etc. etc.
It feels like the public tide has largely turned against them at the moment, rightly in my view, and they could do with some good press!
@themightyant they're making me doubt, but a free PS5 version update of GoT to release with the multiplayer update would be perfect. Sony is just wasting an opportunity if they don't.
@GKO900 NES games were 60fps, we've actually gone backwards with performance. Console hardware hasn't kept up with how good we expect our games to look. With PC gaming, people have 240hz monitors now and are running games at 240fps - though not at 4K unless its an old game - so consoles aiming for 60fps as some kind of gold standard seems pretty odd from their perspective.
@Jaz007 The way I see it is there IS still some good news:
But I'll also be honest, and for me, if I was only getting one console at LAUNCH it would be a Series X + GamePass. Thankfully I don't have to choose.
@Matroska The number of people running monitors that run 120, 144 or 250Hz is still very very small. The VAST majority are still on 60Hz.
Same with resolution - Steam's September survey says only 2.2% play at 4K & 6.89% at 1440p whereas 65.49% play at 1080p.
Hell, more people (9.32%) play at 768p than 4K and 1440p COMBINED. There's a LOT of gamers who play on laptops and lesser hardware. Enthusiasts like us are the small, vocal minority.
Same with TV's, only the very top, most expensive models from the last few years do 120fps, relatively they have a very small install base. It will be a long while before any of the above changes, most aren't interested, they want a bargain not the bleeding edge.
Due to this there is little reason to target more than 60fps on consoles for now, though for us enthusiasts it is a boon.

@Matroska
There’s some caveats about the NES.
Yes all games “ran” at 60fps due to the peculiarities of its PPU. They had to run at that speed due to the way the NES drew sprites and layered backgrounds.
But most NES games had all kinds of slowdown in certain points. Especially the later games, when developers were really wringing out the hardware. Kirby’s Adventure was a perfect example. Beautiful NES game, but it had monumental amounts of slowdown when the PPU had to draw more than three or four sprites on screen due to their detail and size.
@themightyant If they're going by tlou1, they clearly don't even understand their own numbers. 1 remastered sold so well, not because it was a remaster, but because by their own statements most of the early ps4 sales were x360 owners converting and ps3 wasn't a great seller to that point. There were simply more ps4 owners that hadn't played it, and ps3 owners buying ps4s getting it there than dedicated ps3 players.
Spiderman is curious since ps4 was already the market leader and most of the player base that wanted one of the biggest advertised games on the platform had 2 years to buy it already. Can't imagine a similar sales result. We'll see. Having 3 recently released games with no statement of updates at all is just peas poor though. Not while the competition is touting all their upgraded games no less! GoT, tlou2, standing are all beans spanking new.... Trapped as "last gen" the month they launched?
But yeah, their handling of this launch is awful, and i have a lot of concerns about the hardware itself albeit based on assumption and connecting dots because they refuse to talk about the hardware at all. It feels like they're more interested in implementing new sales models and business policies to manipulate spending than they are in their own product launch.
"these will almost certainly run better unless Sony have really F****d up"
If they had good news they'd have demonstrated it by now. I'm guessing with near certainty it's the latter. All we have is Cerny's statements on ps4 and 4pro profiles/emulation and a hack that found references to boost mode..... Which of implemented like ps4pro boost mode.... Really still points towards the later.
I'm excited about my pre-order as well...i have countdown calendar I'm using for counting to the launch of both consoles in fact! But i admit with each passing day I'm getting more excited about the green box and a bit less excited about the blue box. A reversal from after watching the presentation. We keep hearing good news from team green, and getting another middle finger followed by crickets from team blue.
I looked forward to being asked to pay £70 for a PS5 version, with a new face for Ellie, where she looks like Tom Holland.
😬wonder if this and GoTsushi are gonna get the spider-man treatment, further down the line. $49.99 "it's a full remaster with textures and skins and individual hair strands...puddles" remaster. Hope not
@stinkyx nobody has to buy it twice.
I reckon for all the bluster around FPS, a large majority of people wouldn’t be able to tell what’s 30/60/120 FPS in a blind test.
It’s become a buzzword.
@stinkyx should certainly be free. Without a doubt!
@Arnna not sure about that, and I say that as someone who generally doesn't care if a game is 30fps. There's a pretty noticeable difference between 30 and 60.
Whether a majority of people actually care about it is probably another question
I think this game is hard to hit 60FPS. it's too much powerful to handled by next gen CPU at 60.
@Matroska that is a very idealistic way of looking at things and is a "best case scenario" you are describing. only 5% of the pc community is running games at 120+ fps or even 4k/60. not to mention the hardware they are running it on is 2-3X more expensive than a given console. so... yes, if 4k/60 does in fact become standardized on consoles, it would be a standard that has yet to be seen in the gaming space. EVER.
@nessisonett the difference is they redid a lot of things in spiderman , its not just something you can " patch / upgrade ". but it also feels like people have fogotten about ps5 boost mode.
@themightyant lets be honest the people that post on internet message boards are actually the minority in the gaming world. ps4 had zero b/c , and a bunch of other things , and easily outsold every one. all those things you said , people don't care that much about. no one actually thought that the ps5 would play ps1-ps3 games.
