Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 PlayStation 5

One of the criticisms thrown at Marvel's Spider-Man is its use of playable side characters. Though you spend the vast majority of the game in control of Peter Parker, the PlayStation 4 exclusive occasionally has you play stealth missions as Mary Jane, and other characters too. These segments are slower paced and less fun than the main event, and even big fans of the game will recognise them as a weak spot. When it comes to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it sounds like this idea has been abandoned.

Speaking with Game Informer in a video interview, creative director Brian Horton is directly asked whether you'll play as Miles' friend Ganke Lee, or anyone else, during the adventure. Horton's answer is very straightforward: "We are Miles 100 per cent of the time," he says.

He continues: "We wanted to focus on the two parts of Miles. Miles as a kid, as a non-hero ... and then we have of course all his superhero stuff. But really focusing on Miles allowed us to put maximum effort into delivering the best Miles experience we could." Horton goes on to talk about balancing the fast-paced action of the character's crime-fighting with slower moments where you're playing as regular Miles. We've seen a little of that in one of the gameplay videos, where he's casually walking through the snowy streets.

So, we'll be in control of Miles Morales for the whole game, which makes sense given its name. Do you like the sound of this? Were you a fan of the side character sequences in the first game? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
