Following various rumours and a leak earlier today, Ubisoft has confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is indeed a thing and it will be coming to PlayStation 4 on 21st January 2021. If you've already upgraded to the PlayStation 5 by that point, don't worry because you'll be able to play it through backwards compatibility. The game is being developed by a new Ubisoft studio based in India, but unfortunately, it doesn't look like a particularly high-budget project. Check out the announcement trailer above to see what we mean.

The time-bending gameplay should hold up, but the visuals don't seem too up to par. Let's hope it still makes for a good game. At least we only have a few months to wait before we can all play it for ourselves. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Those graphics are pretty horrible but it’s a great game at its core. Should be worth a play.
I thought the game looked beautiful ? :3 maybe I am just easily pleased
The graphics are garbage, but at least the game itself looks fun. I have no idea why it's not on Switch, as it looks like it could work on their with minimal effort, but I'm interested to see more.
The old PS3/X360 remaster looks better than this! What are Ubisoft doing? Are they blind to what Activision and Capcom have been doing... Clearly so. Will be a shame to see one of my all time favourite gaming series consigned to the depths of history after this seemingly pathetic attempt to bring it back.
I'm not impressed.
Played trilogy on PS2. Own trilogy on PS3. Need all 3 or I will just plug my PS3 back in. No point in playing just one for me.
my God this looks rough as hell. I guess they are a new studio so I will give them some slack but this needs a lot of polish. Also I hope this is not a full $60 game
Definitely looked worse then I expected. This doesn't look like a true 'Remake'. In all honesty, this looked like a HD remaster that you'll get free as a bonus for buying the Season pass for some true new triple A Prince of Persia game.
I'm kinda sad, because this will fail and probably mean the chances for a true new Prince of Persia game are slim to none.
Looks like vomit but It's a sacrifice I'll wiling to make for this IP
Looks terrible for a remake
Man, people are harsh. Do we really think it looks worse than the PS3 remaster? Look up videos
on YouTube. Is it up to the remake level of RE2? No and that is disappointing. But if we get to play one of the best games of all time on modern consoles with hopefully updated controls/camera then I’m on board.
I mean...it looks ok I guess? If this is $20 I might buy it. Sad to see how far PoP has fallen these days.
Classic game from back in the day, had it on my Gamecube, bought same day as Burnout 2: Point of Impact. Ahhhhh.
Anyway, the remake certainly has its own 'style', I'll give it a chance for old times sake, but needs to be a budget price methinks.
I’ll get this just so they remake the others. I don’t think it looks awful to be honest. Not up the the standards we expect at this point but I’ve seen worse
@Futureshark It’s up for $39.99 to pre-order
Honestly it's the character models. Environment looks fine overall, not groundbreaking but safe. But those character models are more akin to PS3 assets.
You can tell this is a new studio.... Awful graphical work, but the game is good enough to sell people and potentially reignite the fire for more PoP games.
@ArcadeHeroes I actually think it looks pretty good too, I think people forget how PS2 games looked back then, this is a big upgrade in my book.
This is not the remake you are looking for.
*Makes Jedi hand motion.
No I can still see it.
remaster or remake? looks like a frankenstein melding of old and new assets. no thanks.
The footage was all over the place quality wise. Some of it was gorgeous and some of it was like if it was running on a ps3. It was alpha footage and so its obviously not the final build and they have 4 months to polish it, but fingers crossed they bring the quality up.
I will buy it to show that there is interest in the IP because remasters/remakes are typically done to guage interest in the IP without spending millions upon millions developing a new game. Otherwise we will be stuck waiting forever, much like we have been with Rayman and Splinter Cell.
Looking forward to play it on my Gameboy advanced
I'm not one to complain about graphics but even I can tell this looks horrible visually. Why did they have to pick this game to experiment with a new studio??
Glad I can finally play it on my PS3.
I think people have high expectations whenever a remake of an old game is announced/shown, especially for a once-popular franchise like this...
At the end of the day, this doesn't look good, especially when you compare it to what other studios are doing remake-wise (example: Demon's Souls remake by Bluepoint and SIE Japan Studio).
Doesn't look good at all imo. Also, what is up with the India that dev talked about ? Is it prince of India?
This looks like a Bollywood movie.
Looks good enough for a series that has never really sold as massively as their other franchises. I hope it's not full price, cause I'd love to finally play it but I don't see myself paying £50+ for it, based on that trailer anyway.
Graphics are not everything, but it's really bad that after so long, Prince of Persia is making a comeback as an early PS3 looking title. Hopefully the gameplay is as good as we remember.
Big ol' yikes on this "remake".
Look forward to playing this on my Casio calculator!
I'm from India and have been following Ubisoft Pune for quite some time now. Almost all the recent mobile PoP games were done by them. I'm guessing the PoP franchise will be done by this specific studio. True that the graphics don't look up to the standards, but this is their first large scale project. And looking at their recent hiring spree, things should get better. All this needs to look better is a reduced colour range. Too dark in my opinion.
this game looks pretty weak if you ask me.! not much love spent making it look pretty... keeping my cash
Graphics aren't Stella, but I'm just glad it's the game we all remember, and not an open world live service game.
I hope they do Warrior Within as well, even though it split people.
This should have been a slightly touched up remaster, not a remake. This doesn’t look good and should be canceled because PoP deserves better.
The gameplay seems as good as always. The graphics aren't amazing, but I also think it's silly to discredit a game based on graphics alone.
Looks fine but i would call it a remaster instead of remake. Only that preorder bonus why the same with RE3 hiding the classic costume behind a preorder...
I'll definitely get this because I never played it. I loved The Forgotten Sands on the PS3, so I have high hopes for this.
Looks way better than I thought it would from the leaks. Not great. But better. As a huge Prince of Persia fan, I'm buying this at launch if only for the hope that if enough people buy it, Ubisoft will revive the franchise. If it's just a visual upgrade and the combat is only slightly refined than it should be pretty fun, last time I played SoT, it held up pretty well.
I would've accepted this.. as a Switch game. But on PS4 / XBOX ONE? Never.
I think ubisoft should remaster the ps2 version with 4k graphics, 60 fps, and widescreen support instead rather than remaking it with low budget like this. Also the prince sounds like indian rather than a persia (iran) people.
I loved this game back in the day. The time mechanic was really cool and well done. It was one of these games you got excited by when you were a kid. Intro was also really nice and cinematic. Had to chuckle a bit when I heard the voice acting that came a long way since then.
But this... This is not a remake it's a remaster.
I don't think it's really that bad however they could've done more sad to see they don't seem to care about the franchise. I even think they could have made a 3-pack right away with all the games in the trilogy (forgotten sands sucked)
I can honestly agree with a lot of people here that the game is rough along the edges. It’s such a disappointment that Ubisoft doesn’t believe in this franchise any more. It’s nice that they are trying to promote bigger projects with small studios but this was just a letdown for all the fans out there. More like a HD remaster than remake, gameplay wise all is the same. Pretty strange that they showed alpha footage and the game is set to release in 4 months. I think it will be rushed and a disappointment at launch. Anybody remembers Unity :-? We shall see.
Graphics are disappointing but I still plan to buy day one, need to see the sequels remade as well .
