PlayStation 5’s new Pulse 3D Wireless Headset is being marketed specifically at Sony’s next-gen console, but you’ll be able to use it on your PlayStation 4, as well as compatible PC and MacOS devices. Like previous official headsets, there’s a USB dongle that you’ll need to plug into the device you’re using in order to output audio through the white-and-black cans.
For those wondering, there’s also a 3.5mm jack audio cable included with the headset, meaning you’ll be able to hook it up to your PlayStation VR headset or any other compatible device, such as an iPod or tablet. There’s no word on how much these headphones will cost just yet, but with a Holiday 2020 release date attached, all should be revealed in the not-too distant future.

Is there gonna be Bluetooth support for headphones this time ? If not then I am gonna have a serious problem with Playstation. I have a Sony WH1000XM3 and still says not licensed like how can Sony`s own products be not licensed for PS4 ?
My take would be that wireless headsets need the lowest latency so that's why they need separate USB dongle. I may be wrong. WH1000XM3 doesn't even have BT 5.0 which solves latency issues so probably that's why.
I kind of wished the headset could pair to the PS5 without the dongle. It just uses a USB slot. With the PS4 with external hard drive and the dongle in you only have one slot left which is ok for charging your controller but if you put the PSVR on that uses the last slot.
@Richi-388 yes especially since I gonna need 3 for VR, Charging and PS4 HDD
Thanks to modern TVs with Bluetooth, there is no need to pay for exclusive hardware. I can pair any type of headphones while gaming, and not be dependent on mediocre equipment that won't even connect to my mobile phone.
@PeakyBlinder
Probably not happening. It's highly likely sony and MS won't support bluetooth headphones at all because bluetooth does not support high quality stereo audio with a microphone. When you use a microphone the bluetooth profile switches from A2DP (high quality stereo profile) to HSP and you're limited to 64kbps audio up and down. It's fine for bluetooth headphones where you can use the A2DP profile while listening to music and the headphones switch to the HSP profile when you receive a call, so you never have to suffer through 64kbps music and wonder why your $200 headphones sound like 🐶💩 $10 90's earbuds.
But in a game console where chat and game audio is mixed it doesn't make any sense to switch profiles all the time, so you'd have to use the HSP profile at all times and the sound quality would be terrible. 💩
So instead both sony and MS decided not to support bluetooth headphones 👐 on this gen, and it's not likely to change since 7 years later bluetooth STILL doesn't support high quality 🤮 stereo audio+mic. Any wireless headphones you use on PS4/Xbox one are NOT using bluetooth, not because both sony and ms are greedy ***** but because bluetooth sucks a** for gaming.
I already have the Sony Platinum headset which is confirmed to work on PS5 and be compatible with 3D audio. Will this new headset be better than the Platinum or be more like the Gold?
PC Compatibility is an interesting takeaway honestly. I wonder if Sony is going to occassionally release some of their legacy stuff on PC like they did with Horizon that could take advantage of that headset. I know it'll probably be compatible with other Steam stuff but considering it's a first party Sony device that's an interesting prospect
People should check out this new headset thats built with PS5 in mind, Audeze’s Penrose. They come with 100mm planar magnetic drivers, 10Hz-50kHz freq response, broadcast quality mic and it has Bluetooth. I’m pre-ordering the Penrose X for Series X.
These should sound epic when other wireless headsets out there have 40mm/50mm drivers and 20Hz-22kHz freq response. They are releasing in September and the first 1000 pre-orders are £249.99 then will be £299.99 when they retail.
@JonTheGod the golds are already better than the platinum cans. They sound exactly the same but are far far more comfortable. I gave my golds to my friend and bought the plats. They're dreadful. Cheaply made and the most uncomfortable things I've ever worn on my head. Your head gets too hot and starts aching because of that terrible strap pressing down on your skull. The new pulse ones look to have that very same strap. How they decided that was a good call is beyond me. I'll never buy Sony cans again without trying some first.
@Bigdog1318 if it's the same band as the plat set it'll kill your head. Just a terrible design. I HATE my plats with a passion.
@Dan_ozzzy189 The Gold set is technically inferior to the Platinum set, obviously. With regards to comfort, I've never had an issue with the Platinum.
They sound practically identical, perhaps it was a long time between gaming sessions but they offer absolutely nothing over the golds whatsoever. I'm pretty sure there's going to be far more impressive headphones available come ps5 time. They're so flimsy and cheap feeling. Even the buttons on the sides are worse. If you find them comfy then lucky you.
@JonTheGod after reading shed loads of reviews regarding platinum vs gold i decided on gold based on the reviews leaning heavily in favour of the gold sets in terms of sound quality being of almost equal quality,comfort and price..either your head is a perfect fit for the platinums or you were very lucky to obtain a set that were a fluke and are the perfect set..horses for courses i guess..
@MaccaMUFC why pay that much for some headphones?
@theMEGAniggle Quality? I bought Sony's WF-1000XM3 earphones for more than 200€ when they came out last year. I am constantly amazed how amazing they are. I know some people don't hear the difference and are happy with cheap models (some sound good) but I do and I'm willing to pay for a quality earphones/headphones.
@theMEGAniggle Because you get what you pay for with headphones. If you buy a cheap pair for £30 your going to get poor audio and build quality, buy a premium pair for £200+ then your getting much better audio, build quality and features like Bluetooth.
I see only Audeze with the Mobius and Penrose, also HyperX Cloud Orbit (which uses the same drivers from Audeze) that have 100mm drivers and much better frequency response than any other headphone out there, so these should standout from the rest.
@Matej Ahh you're an audiophile. I know the feeling, I spent like a fortune on my home cinema system, I just feel like that's an extortionate price for headphones with latency especially when producing music (if they're wireless).
@MaccaMUFC for sure for sure, like I said in my comment above I feel like these prices are pure extortion, glad you enjoy them.
@theMEGAniggle I use them for listening to music so I don't care about latency. Few time watched a video on YouTube and the latency was very good. BT 5.0 is a big improvement in this area. For gaming on my PS4 I use wired HyperX Cloud Stinger headset. Decent microphone, good sound for gaming and got them for under 50€. But would never use it for listening to music.
Gold all dah way baby
@Bigdog1318
No worries. I really recommend trying these or the platinum out first if at all possible, I just think that headband is terrible design. Well, it is for me and quite a few others anyway.
TV wise I'd look at the LG oleds, they're stunning and I or any of my friends, have never had any issues with retention.
