LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been on our radar for a while now, but we've heard very little about it. It's nice to have an update in the form of a new trailer, then, which you can view above.
There's no real new info to pick out of this latest video. It just looks like another solid LEGO game, and there's nothing wrong with that. This one contains the full story from all nine of the main movies, and looks to have a ton of gameplay variety as a result.
The big news to take away from this is that The Skywalker Saga will be released on both PlayStation 5 and PS4 in spring 2021. The cross-gen platformer is looking good -- we can't wait to see ray tracing on all those plastic bricks.

It looks open world, which is something that's not really been done with the LEGO formula before. Like they've done non-linear games before, but it looks like you'll be able to travel to different planets that are story sensitive to specific films and play through them out of order instead of just selecting them through the cantina doors like TCS. This game has definitely piqued my interest.
One thing that kinda makes me sad is that unlike the original Lego Star Wars games, they appear to have dialogue, when the originals did alot of showing rather than telling with the expressions and staying silent.
Cautiously optimistic in this...
@TheFrenchiestFry all lego games since harry potter 1-4 have been open world including lego star wars 4 the force awakens.
@MS7000 All lego games since lord of the rings have had voice acting and the visual story telling is still present. Seems like all lines have been rerecorded and lego games with original stories and re recorded lines are among the best.
I am definitely excited for this. Lego games usually aren't my thing but this looks really good. The lightsaber fights look awesome!
This is a day one. Love Lego games and my kids are into star wars so well have fun with this in sure. What they showed off looked awesome.
@TheFrenchiestFry Except for Marvel, Marvel 2, Lego City, and a whole host of others... but yeah. "Not really been done." Sure.
@AJDarkstar All versions will release at once, so why would there be a free upgrade? I'm sure the PS4 version will run on the PS5 just fine, but if you want the graphical bells and whistles, you may have to pay a little more.
Dammit. So much for October release date then.
Lego Star Wars was part of my childhood, so seeing the entire Star Wars movie franchise in one pack makes me super excited! Also, I wonder how they're going to manage the Last Jedi and RotS, considering the amount of controversy these movie have garnered.
@Deadhunter A free upgrade is good because not everyone is getting the PS5/Series X at launch.. so if you buy the game at release but on this gen consoles you can go back/continue for free with next-gen consoles after upgrading
@Bezbot I get it, but when released simultaneously, what would be the point of separate versions if everyone could just buy the (presumably cheaper) PS4 version and then do a free upgrade? I don't think this free upgrading thing will go on in perpetuity, I imagine it will just be for games released in the next few months leading up to launch.
I've played the Lego games since the days on the PS2. At one point, I was a huge fan, and my wife and I loved playing them together. Later, we introduced our kids to them and they love them too. But then the quality started to suffer around the time the PS4 came out.
Lego The Force Awakens and Lego Jurrasic World are both solid games. But Lego Hobbit was left unfinished, but released that way for some reason. Lego Marvel Super Heros 2 was really poorly made and has tons of game breaking bugs. And the games for the Lego Movie and Lego Ninjago feel like they were outsourced to a different company.
I've basically given up on the series, unfortunately. From the highlights here, it looks like the gameplay is a lot like the Ninjago game, which is a big step down from older titles.
Sucks about the delay from 2020 to Spring 2021, but the trailer hopefully proves the wait will be worth it!
