PlayStation 4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima has found itself at the top of the UK sales chart for the second week running. This means it has just one more week at the top to go before it matches the The Last of Us: Part II's record last month. It'll have to fend off some mighty competition from Nintendo titles in order to do that, but we have faith that Sucker Punch's latest effort is proving popular enough to manage it. It is Sony's fastest-selling new IP of the PS4 generation, after all.
Elsewhere, there's actually very little movement in terms of which games make up the top 10 and the positions they reside in. F1 2020 remains in third place, The Last of Us: Part II drops a spot to sixth, and so too does Grand Theft Auto V in eighth. Ghost of Tsushima might still be doing well, but it's business as usual for the other nine contestants. Although the latest PS4 exclusive experienced a 68% drop in physical sales, it is still trending in-line with Days Gone. We all know how popular that title proved to be.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 25th July 2020
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- F1 2020
- Paper Mario: The Origami King
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
- The Last of Us: Part II
- Minecraft (Switch)
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Forza Horizon 4
- Ring Fit Adventure

I'm surprised last of Us 2 is already at No 6
@I_Like_It Why are you surprised?
When the charts are encumbered with evergreen garbage like GTA V (great game but not that great), Mario Kart and Minecraft anything highbrow hasn't got a chance. Its like on TV pitting the Sky at night vs coronation Street.
Now TLOU2 just needs to get off the list
Just started playing GoT tonight after watching Seven Samurai earlier today for the first time. Jumping between Got and A Plague Tale both fantastic games even though I'm only a few hours into each!
Yes GoT is what I , and I think most people, need atm. Such a joy to play and escape from reality. Spider-Man MM is also a game we need.
Logic of some people:
When tlou 2 sells well --> "It doesn't mean that it is a good game"
When tlou 2 doesn't sell well -->"haha, it shows that the game is terrible"
@Nepp67 π€¦
TLOU2 outsold the entire top 10 combined in June, but people still wonβt let it go - really move on itβs over π π€¦ββοΈ
Love F12020 is still there. Having a blast on race weekend.
TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima, F12020, Origami King... for me it has been a great 2 months for gaming π
@SlimDrizzyLamar @Agramonte Hear, hear to both of you.
It's been a huge success and I imagine it will keep selling many copies into the next gen as well.
It's amazing game and even though I'm really enjoying Death Stranding (and also Detroit Become Human which I am playing for a second time) it still pales into comparison. It's in my top three this gen along with RDR2 and The Witcher 3.
Also, congrats to GoT. I'm glad to hear that it's selling well and that the majority of players are really enjoying it. I'm sure I will too.
@Scoobijohn Facts.
@Scoobijohn SPOILERS!!!!
Edit your post mate.
π€¦
TLOU Part II is a great game ruined by an absolute garbage narrative executed by ruined characters and a ridiculous ending. Nonesense. Ghosts is pretty alright so far, enjoyed the first couple of hours, not blown away yet but a solid 8 in the opening hours.
@thefirst Celebrate GoT's success, there's no need to try and denigrate Part II even further.
It's unnecessary and becoming incredibly tiresome. I didn't find the game to be a drag at all, indeed I only wish Part III was coming out next month as that's the only way I could get to play something so special again.
It's similar to how I felt after finishing RDR2, all other games paled in comparison and it took a while for something else to truly grab my attention.
I wish I'd played Ghost of Tsushima before The Last of Us 2. I'm enjoying it but it's not on the same level as TLoU2. Great to see both games have sold well.
@thefirst Okay I'll bite. What would have made a better story or, to put it more accurately, what would you have wanted to see?
Joel's actions at the end of the first game were always going to have repercussions and would have to be addressed. What should they have done?
Anyway, we all know the middle chapter of any great trilogy is the darkest. Can't wait for Part III.
π
@thefirst You're the one that suggested that even people that liked it found it to be a bit of a drag.
Initially I wasn't sure about the end segment but with time I've come to not only appreciate it but see it as necessary. Without it the story wouldn't be complete.
In fact the only regret is that the game.had to end at all!
As for Joel. Is he a good man that did bad things or a bad man redeemed by Ellie. We of course empathise with him due to what happened in the prologue of the first game but did that give him the right to do what he did at the end? I'm not so sure it does. Maybe people thought he was a Geralt or John Mattson.but he was always more complicated than either of those great anti-heroes. He's more like Arthur Morgan only be could never admit that.
As for a certain female character in the Part II, I never hated her just what she did. The Last of Us isn't black or white, instead deals with many shades of grey. Perhaps there are no good or bad people in their world, just good or bad actions.
I loved the story and thought it was incredibly brave on ND's part to take such risks in the first place. They should be applauded not lambasted and subject to so much vitriol.
Anyway, I look forward to when Part II wins several GOTY awards. The salt is going to be ever so tasty!
π
@Scoobijohn you may not like tlou2, but no need to drop major spoilers for others who might enjoy it.
@Col_McCafferty "I look forward to when Part II wins several GOTY awards"
Cyberpunk comes out this year π whether we like it or not is going to sweep. It almost feels like it's a Rockstar release with all the hype. However Ghost is my personal goty.
That's great news for GOT, is the game I was needing at the moment. I platinum tlou2 and enjoyed it for what it was, even if i didn't like the story. That being said I'm glad I'm done with it, really depressing game that matches the depressing state of the world.
My god some people really have some kind of trauma with tlou2. Also when the game was selling well they say that good sales doesn't mean it's a good game, now that the game is in 6th spot in uk chart it means the game is bad? Make up your mind people.
PS good job on ghost of tsushima though. Too bad some people is using ghost to ***** on tlou2.
Good stuff. Ghost is a top game & should be on the top. It's got its hooks in me after a rough start lol
Glad Ghost is doing so well as its great, i do have some issues with it what won't be putting it as my GOTY but its certainly one of the better open worlds out there, the act of exploring and taking in the sights and taking photos is amazing.
As for TLoUP2 dipping to 6th place well yeah that's about right, majority of people who wanted to play it would have last month and it being a sequel means it being no 1 for ages and ages is hard because anyone who hasn't played the first or doesn't like the first won't be playing this. Where was GoW and Uncharted 4 at this point in their run? I'm willing to bet its around the same. Fact is though TLoUP2 has been a huge hit and there's no denying it.
I loved the last of us, but part 2 was a let down for me. It was pretentious and unbelievable. Character motives were laughable. The level of polish was out of this world and other games don't even come close to the technical achievement the game is. I don't think it's ok to bash people who didn't enjoy it, in the same way it's not ok to bash people that did. I just feel it could've been so much better. I'm glad GoT is doing well, it deserves to be up there with the best games of this generation.
@Lobbo95 absolutely. I just KNEW that the comments would find a way to bring this round to TLoU2 and spin any morsel of information negatively to fit their narrative. Canβt help themselves... sad
@gomersoul thank you. A balanced, mature critique of the game. Itβs fine you donβt like it.
Whatβs not fine is the dog-piling, spiteful spoiling and hate that has surrounded this title. That is not ok.
@themightyant, i agree with everything you say in both comments. I think outside of this site is way worse with anything related to tlou 2 and it's kinda affecting me in a negative way. Heck i can't even browse peacefully on youtube without a video recommendation of "why tlou2 is bad", all bacause for listening the ost of the game. I just want to enjoy and have a great time with videogames.
This thread was supposed to be about sugarcoating GoT and instead we have ourselves a TLoU2 salt mine... Like others have said, leave it be. There are better places to discuss this. As for me, I loved TLoU2 (though I did find the plot disturbing at times, but that's called challenging the player) and I'm sure I'll love GoT as well. Well done SP!
@Scoobijohn Dude - Spoilers man!
@Ah-Void gotta love their logic. They provide comedy and they don't even realize it.
@SincereMan What's the point?
π€·
You've already made up your mind as have I.
Let's be honest chaps, it was the Last of Us haters that first mentioned the title on this thread. They started it!
π
@Lobbo95 I feel you man. The major story points were spoiled for me on a completely unrelated Xbox video before launch and even now 6 weeks after launch people are posting spoilers in this unrelated thread. Sadly push square doesnβt have that in their list of rules...
The whole video game internet and all the algorithms seem to circle around back to TLoU2 regardless of what we want right now. I was hoping the PS5 and Xbox events would change this... but no
@Juanalf Nah, it's FP only. CD PR have blown it.
It will still be worth playing of course but my expectations are much lower for it than I like.
@SincereMan Or maybe to us the flaws don't affect our overall feelings on the game and instead we prefer to focus on what it does well.
Some people judge art/entertainment more by what it is positive rather than negative. Some people are the opposite. No big game is perfect. I have mentioned my love of RDR2 and The Witcher 3 yet are both games without flaws? No, of course not. I prefer to focus on the good things though.
It's not about trying to counter anything. You probably don't like the story because you found it to be too depressing. I don't mind darker and bleaker tales. Does everything make sense? Maybe not but hey, when you think about it, you could say the same about the first one.
@themightyant, i'm sorry that happened to you, i hope that you still enjoyed the game though.π Cheers
Bottom line is that as PS fans we should be celebrating the fact that two exclusives have dropped within a month or so of each other and that both have dominated the charts.
It's a great end to this gen and should give us all hope that Sony will continue to knock it out of the park next gen as well.
Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Days Gone, Death Stranding, God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne etc etc - it's some set of exclusives!*
π
*Consoles exclusives seeing as DS is already on PC with HZD set to also be released on this format next month. Still, PC gaming isn't for everyone.
Of course this comments section has found yet another way to have a huge debate over The Last of Us: Part II. Can we take this to the relevant places, please?
@I_Like_It lol you say already like itβs some bad thing itβs been out for over a month and a half. Seriously you haters need to just shut up and move on the game is a massive success and has sold tons while still having legs for days
@thefirst get out your bubble my dude because thatβs just not true. Not many single player games that have been out for a month and half just about are still talked about like tlou part 2
@Scoobijohn so your opinion doesnβt matter but thanks for sharing anyway
@Nepp67 not happening smh you people are truly sad I canβt wait till it wins goty to see your meltdowns
@SlimDrizzyLamar itβs just haters their opinions donβt mean nothing especially when most of them didnβt even play it. The game has been a massive success and it just eats away at them for some reason. I canβt wait till it cleans up the goty awards to see the meltdowns lol
@GAMER-GlRL get better taste because tlou part 2 narrative is the furthest thing from garbage. When you have filmmakers from both movies and tv singing the praises of the narrative you know itβs something special but keep on hating if it makes you feel better because it wonβt change anything itβs a huge success and will be goty
@Juanalf @thefirst itβs not going to just like gta 5 couldnβt beat tlou part 1
@LN78 than you donβt know smart people because story is def not about that
@Lobbo95 Thanks, appreciated, sadly that's the wonderful but sometimes poisonous world we live in.
I haven't actually played TLoU2 yet. Wanted to give it some time to breathe after story being spoiled for me (no such luck).
To be fair I don't often buy games on launch as they usually release broken/ in their worst state and usually incomplete. Ordinarily I'll usually wait several months for the inevitable patches and bug fixes and to see if any DLC is announced to see if I want to play those. By then the complete version of the game is out and as a bonus is usually half the cost by then too. (TLoU2 was going to be one of the rare games that I WAS going to buy day one )
Really pleased that Ghost is doing well, I hope it gives Sucker Punch the boost they need as a studio, and enables them to invest in growing as a studio. I've been a fan since the days of Sly Cooper, and I've always felt they didn't quite get the recognition that teams like Guerilla, Naughty Dog, Insomniac and Santa Monica got, maybe this will change that for them. I hope so, because they have some really creative People working there.
@thefirst not anyone who dislikes the game, no.
Someone who makes it a point to talk about their hate of the game would be considered a hater though.
See βinformalβ in the definition. Sounds like you, right?
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/hater
@thefirst βInformal. a person who thrives on showing hate toward, criticizing, or belittling other people or things, usually unfairly:
The guy is just a hater, looking for a fightβ
@LiamCroft nope. This is the place that diehards from both sides will solve all their disagreements and settle their issues over this game once and for all.
I'm really enjoying Ghost, they aren't the same but gives me similar feels to Spider Man. A lot of fun to play and explore, enjoyable combat, overall good package. Look forward to see how this looks and plays on PS5 assuming we get an upgrade not just back compatibility.
As its compulsory to talk about Part 2 in every article/comment, I've completed the story and thought it was great. Bring on Part 3 although I'd prefer ND to do something else first, not Uncharted or TLOU, something new.
@thefirst NO! Not at all. I'm not defending anything. Go back and reread I haven't mentioned ANYTHING about the quality of the game because I don't know yet.
What I have criticised is the spiteful spoiling, dog-piling and hate that surrounds this game. If you don't like it that is 100% fine, but don't go out of your way to spoil it for others or be a d!ck, that is absolutely not OK regardless of the game's content.
@thefirst so, youβre trying to dispute that youβre a hater by hating more?
You sure you thought that through?
Also, yes I played through it entirely and loved the game. Admittedly the story is too βadultβ for some obviously.
@dark_knightmare2 better taste π€£ it's just an opinion, a different taste, no need to attack my opinion and propose I change my taste, a very aggressive and immature stance. the narrative is garbage and in a few years time when everyone has had a few more breathes they can come back analyse why it's a failure, the story could have been great, it ain't
@thefirst and I think youβre ignoring that it doesnβt have to be βhateβ for you to be considered a hater. Reread that definition.
Also, youβd be happier if you learned to just move on.
@GAMER-GlRL @MarcG420 @themightyant @thefirst Guys, stop this.
@Nepp67 nice joke sweetie
@GAMER-GlRL it wasn't ruined and it has a good story
Who is out there still buying Animal Crossing?
I remember the days when the only comments about the Top 10 related to GTA V still being in the charts.
π
How did it come to this?!
@Taylorzombie Oh look another TLOU2 defender. I wonder what he'll say this time.
@Nepp67 You ever got anything positive to say?
π€¦
@Col_McCafferty according to those guys we aren't allowed to love TLOUII. I gave up on them. They're on every TLOUII post arguing why the story is bad, it's hilarious. I mean like, it's not your story, is somebody's. Yea you think the story isn't good, fine, MOVE ON. Or write how you want it played out in a book and read it to yourself if it'd make you happy.
@LiamCroft I object to being asked me to 'stop this' I simply expressed an opinion and I was told to 'get better taste' I've been perfectly civil
@Taylorzombie I didn't say it had a bad story, the narrative and execution of the plot is awful, the characters from the first game are betrayed by poor telling of said story
@Nepp67 are you a troll? And i get you be going posts complaining about the last of us 2
@GAMER-GlRL there's nothing wrong with the story
