Ghost of Tsushima is the second big PlayStation 4 exclusive of the summer, and just like last month's counterpart, it has debuted in first place in the UK sales charts. The latest open world experience from Sucker Punch Productions didn't manage to come close to the sales figures of The Last of Us: Part II, as noted by GamesIndustry.biz, but it's still a very positive result for what could be another huge hit for Sony. The site notes that physical sales of Ghost of Tsushima were seven percent higher than Days Gone at launch.
Elsewhere, F1 2020 slips from first place down to third while The Last of Us: Part II finds itself in fifth. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has climbed up another place to ninth, but one surprising omission is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It hasn't made it into the top 10 at all this week. Grand Theft Auto V still makes it in there in seventh spot, however.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 18th July 2020
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Paper Mario: The Origami King
- F1 2020
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- The Last of Us: Part II
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Minecraft (Switch)
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Luigi's Mansion 3

You really no need to sort out the Push Square clock lol.
Well deserved, such a great game.
Congratulations to Sucker Punch. Also no Fifa in the Top Ten either
Sony first-party has been on a roll all generation really. It's kinda crazy to think its exclusives during the PS3 generation didn't sell particularly well, even though they were critically acclaimed.
Yet another new successful IP launch. Sony's got so good at this, we kinda expect it now and forget how difficult it actually is to introduce new franchises like this.
@JohnnyShoulder Nothing needs to be sorted out?
OpEn WoRlD fAtIgUe ThOuGh... 🤣
I'm about to hit the FIB building for the umpteenth time in GTAV, so yea it never gets old. And can't wait to start my 2nd playthrough of the TLOUII - what a game!
@LiamCroft It was a few minutes too fast when I posted.
@LiamCroft It is impressive that @JohnnyShoulder managed to comment on your article 2 minutes before it was posted.
@Ryall It is that crazy HAM radio I keep mucking around with.
Hasn't pretty much 99% of PS4 exclusives sold very well this Gen? Goes to show how huge the PS4 has been this Gen. As for the game well yeah well deserved as its fantastic.
Its the 👻 ghost playa.well deserves sony sucker punch Microsoft.word up son
Great job Sucker Punch, you made a better game than the developers of The Last of Us!
The best game Sucker Punch has ever made. That is saying a lot...
Really enjoying this so far, some open world jank and iffy side quests but the combat is great fun, the mythic side quests are excellent and the story is good when I get round to it
" Grand Theft Auto V still makes it in there in seventh spot"
You know you guys that keep buying it are preventing GTA 6 from ever coming out 😅 god I hate gta online so much -_-
Also congrats to Sucker Punch, I'm almost getting ready to start ghost and I can't wait. They are such a high quality studio, hope digital sales are even better.
Phil Spencer punching the air right now
Fantastic game. Not stopped playing.
2 new amazing iIP with Horizon zero dawn and Now Ghost of Tsushima. And raised TLOU and God of War to another level. Sony has had an amazing generation.
I'm trying to hold out until it's a bit cheaper but all the excellent screenshots I'm seeing are making that decision quite hard.
I'm sure Tsushima will have better legs than TLOU 2.
I'm sure it's doing great in the US as well since I CAN'T GET A COPY ANYWHERE. Every Target, Walmart, GameStop in town? Out. Amazon? Out. I didn't have a lot of interest until I started looking at reviews, so, my bad.
On my Twitter I've never seen a game get so much love. I'm still on Act 1 since Friday lol
@Deadhunter. You could just buy it on the ps store.
Congrats to SP, I really enjoyed the game and it's one of my fav game of this year. Another big new successful IP for sony 😃
Congrats to Sucker Punch. Can't wait to enter the world of Tsushima once I'm done with Spongebob.
@bbauer36 Eh, I could if I were willing to drop $60 on a game I haven't tried and can't recoup the money on. Digital is for sure things and sales. I was able to order online and it'll be here in a week, so I'm eager to give it a shot.
@HotGoomba lol the game is great I love just exploring but that’s a big fat no that’s it better than tlou like not even close
@Exlee300p yeah I doubt that since tlou legs have been pretty great so far and anyway aren’t you tired of hating on tlou yet it’s old dude.
@dark_knightmare2 It's totally better than TLOU.
@dark_knightmare2 First of all I'm not hating it's my legitimate opinion of the game. I'm sorry you still haven't comprehended that people have different opinions and that yours do not constitute objective truth. And Btw there's a huge percentage of people who agree with me on this point. Haven't you got sick of being this game's white knight? As far as sales of TLOU 2 go, they plummeted 80% the second week (85% in Japan). And I noticed the the game journos have't bothered to mention the percentage drop in subsequent weeks. And like this site saying Ghost wasn't good enough to top TLOU 2's opening week. I can guarantee Ghost won't drop 80% in it's second week and will end up being far more beloved than TLOU 2.
@Exlee300p The bias is strong with this one. Of course they plummeted after selling 4m in a single week.
@Exlee300p that 80 percent you’re talking about is normal for the massive opening it had and was only a percent or two more than uncharted 4 had so what you thought was a gotcha moment was nothing but you showing your hate once again and looking ridiculous in the process. I will also say that your huge percentage of people that agree with you is false. Im also not white knighting the game as you put it it’s just old seeing you constantly bringing up tlou which for someone who didn’t like the game you sure do like talking about it.
@Constable_What that’s fine you feel like that I’m totally enjoying it too but that’s an opinion not too many would agree with. I mean characters, story, graphics, voice acting, animations, combat and level design are all better than ghosts but that doesn’t make ghosts any less enjoyable it’s just not on the level of tlou which reviews have shown.
You know when you're at work or in class and youve got a buzz in your gut because all you can think about is clocking out and jumping straight back in to the game that's waiting for you?
This game is the first time in years that I've experienced this feeling. Other games have been amazing, but this one has me hooked. Like HZD had me hooked.
Congrats to Sucker Punch!
Sad that now we have to put up with comparisons between two Sony exclusives. Seriously it's getting really boring now.
The Last Of Us Part II is a great game...but not all will agree. That's fine by the way. Stop the bleating about it.
Ghost looks like a lot of fun, I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I eventually get to play it.
Ghosts is one of those games that was not on my radar but my twitter feed (and here) is awash with great gifs and images and I ended up using some ebay money to get a copy this weekend.
I think it is insane that this generation Sony has launched multiple new IP's and one offs. Knack, Nioh, The Order, Until Dawn, HZD, Days Gone, Ghosts, Astrobot Rescue, Bloodborne, Detroit, Death Stranding, Spiderman, The Last Guardian, Farpoint, Blood and Truth...
Both have sold well, i'm sure that is all Sony cares about.
Play the game, enjoy the game and don't worry or get offended if some else doesn't like it because all that matters is is that you enjoy it
@dark_knightmare2 Let's see how this started this started. I said I bet Ghost would have better legs than TLOU 2. Pretty benign statement. Certainly not hate, just an observation on making a divisive not fun game without identity politics compared to one that is just beautiful, fun, and chill to play. Then you felt the need to go at me. Which is fine. I also see you going at anyone else who says anything you perceive as disparaging about TLOU 2. So I think it's pretty obvious you are white knighting. It may be normal to drop a big percentage in the second week but not 80 to 85%. And like I said none of the game journos have reported on the percentage drop in the subsequent weeks. I'm betting it has continued to drop markedly. As for dismissing the user scores but believing critic scores are somehow more accurate I staunchly disagree. With the user reviews many have paid 60 bucks for the game so they are going to give it a true review. Yes there are some haven't played but the same can be said for the positive reviews. Jeremy from the quartering found that 47% of the positive reviews were identical. Whether you want to believe it or not many many people disliked this game. As for the critic reviews except for a few trustworthy sites most people know they are crap and don't believe critics. Paid with early access to review and preview code which leads to views which leads to ad revenue. And they know there is the potential for black listing. As for why TLOU 2 got better reviews than Ghost, it's because the vast majority of the review sites are from the San Francisco or L.A. region of america. Which makes them far left politically, so they swoon for identity politics and SJW subject matter. Even if they are not from said region most sites are far left. Though they think they are objective. If you look at the user score on metacritic it is 9.2 for Ghost, the complete opposite of TLOU 2. That's what happens when you make a fun game that respects the characters and players. You're sick of my so called hating then I'm sick of the white knighting.
@dark_knightmare2 I don't know what game you're talking about, but the TLOU 2 did not have better characters, or writing, the level design isn't much better there either, and combat is waaaaay better in Ghost. I probably know just as many people who'd laugh at the notion that TLOU 2 is better than GOT.
I think people who think the TLOU 2's story is some tour de force are really just happy they can read at a 4th grade level, and completely ignore all of the contrived and hackneyed writing, and horrible pacing. It's really stinky.
Animations, graphics, and lip sync is all better in TLOU 2 though. That's to be expected with the crunch time the game went through, and the differences in engines. Loading is much longer in TLOU 2 for instance.
Whats with all the arguing between The Last Of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima? If you like one or the other that's fine, if you like both then great you've enjoyed 2 games recently and if you like neither then go and play the games you enjoy.
People say TLOU2 story is trash, yet I really enjoyed it and them not liking it doesn't affect my enjoyment of it. I wasn't gripped by the story in Days Gone for example wasn't very good, yet many seem to really enjoy it.
Does it matter if people don't like things as much as you or enjoy them more? Now excuse me while I go look at some pretty trees an slice some Mongols, might even have a round of golf with Abby later 😉
Ghost of Tsushima is just the perfect game imo I find myself in ore of the scenery ever 5 mins stunning game.
@naruball I'm talking about the subsequent weeks as well. Not a mention of the percentage drop week after week from game journos. Everyone has bias, everyone, it is natural. Yes I did not like the game I thought it was disrespectful, poorly written, unbelievable, and frankly boring. And loaded with identity politics. Every significant male gets killed in the game while the stunning and brave diverse women survive. And many many people agree with me. And no we are not bigots (I'm gay so don't go there.) The vast majority of game journos have been white knighting this game as if it's the best thing ever and those who disagree are wrong. It is my belief that Ghost will outsell TLOU 2 eventually because it is a fun well made game without the agenda.
@Exlee300p least get the facts correct, because every significant male does not die, and plenty of significant female characters die to. Did you actually play the game after repeatedly saying you wouldn't?
Plenty of people are just getting on and enjoying both games, plenty of people on Amazon also feel the same as most reviews did and are giving the TLOU2 5 star reviews from verified purchases and some who didn't like are giving it lower scores but with a valid reason why they didn't like it and not just making up reasons.
@InvaderJim Whether you or Push square want to admit it there was a large amount of people who didn't like the game. And no it's not because we didn't get it or because we are bigots. The game was made purposely divisive. Admittedly so by the developers. What is it with you people who loved the game and not being able to handle people not liking the game? I don't reply to your praise to rain on your parade about the game. But I am alliowed my opinion. First of all I didn't say no female characters died. But the main ones do Elle, Abby, Dina, Lily/Lev. Oh all the significant male characters don't die huh? Tell me what significant male character lives then?
Yara died. Mel died. Tommy lived.
@Exlee300p was just pointing out that some of your facts were wrong.
@cayal Exactly what I said. The vast majority of significant male characters die. While much more diverse female characters survive.
@SaikoWaifu2003 Virtually 100% of so called gaming jouralism is is from the left viewpoint. Not sure what's funny about that. It's just a fact. And it is through that side that censorship will continue to occur.
@Exlee300p
And? Why is it an issue? If 3 guys and 1 girl survived (like in literally every single action game/movie/book around) you wouldn't be crying about it.
@cayal First of all I'm not crying about it bud. I'm pointing it out. It is not the main issue but one of many that I feel detracts from this game. Why is it an issue? Well let's see because it is forcing identity politcs into a game in a purposely divisive manner. Neil Druckmann admitted he was greatly influenced by Anita Sarkeesian. A woman who chooses to sees sexism, misogyny , and toxic masculinity in virtually every game. Which just isn't the case. Druckmann said he wanted to right a wrong with this game. And that's the issue. The game was made with an agenda. Not the story and characters first, but the agenda. And yes it would be an issue for me if the creator of a game said his purpose was to make sure most female characters were killed because he wanted to push a masculine agenda. In service to the agenda they did what they did to a beloved character in such a crappy way. And changed Elle from a plucky, kind, appreciative character to frankly an unlikable jerk. This is the reason virtually everyone is loving Tsushima, because it is an extremely well made game sans an agenda.
@SaikoWaifu2003 Wow so juvenile and defensive. Typical of people like you. Can't handle different opinions and facts so you resort to name calling and arrogance. So apparantly you can't comprehend or grasp the subtleties of the english language. So I'll say it one more time. I don't give a crap that people have different opinions than me. Nor do I care about the ratio of the genders in game. The issue is when makers of a game decide to be divisive by purposely putting identity politics in a game to push an agenda. Which is what Druckmann and the team at Naughty Dog said they did. But as I said that was not even a big issue for me. It was just one of many. As for the leanings of game journalists, I just stated a fact. Please point me in the direction of a non left leaning game site. Why is it that you people always think your opinion is fact. You have been having a go at me because I dare state my opinion. Sad truly sad bud.
@Exlee300p Gotta love the irony.
@naruball I'm sorry what's ironic bud?
