Update (15/7/20): Codemasters has officially released the above DIRT 5 trailer after it leaked earlier this month. To recap, the latest video goes over returning game modes, such as Gymkhana, and also confirms a free upgrade to the PS5 version if you buy a PS4 copy. You can read up on it over on the PlayStation Blog.
Original Story: DIRT 5 is the latest off-road racer from Codemasters, and it's taking the series back to its more fun-loving, arcade-style roots. The game is coming to both PlayStation 5 and PS4, with the latter releasing on 9th October. If you want that next-gen version, you'll have to wait a little longer -- but it seems early adopters will be rewarded.
A new trailer for the game leaked online earlier today, and in the video's description, it's confirmed that DIRT 5 will have a PS5 upgrade option. If you buy the game on PS4, you can upgrade to the PS5 version for free.
The trailer itself offers an overview of the game's many event types, and these include a handful of returning modes from the older DIRT titles. Stampede, Sprint, and Path Finder are highlighted, but there's also mention of Ultra Cross, Time Trial, Land Rush, Rally Raid, and Ice Breaker. Lastly, it's revealed that Gymkhana will be making its return to the series.
What do you make of all this? Does the PS5 upgrade tempt you to grab the PS4 version in October? Drift into the comments section below.

According to the trailer the PS4 version comes out in october. I expect to either have, or verry soon own a PS5. So in my case i will wait for the PS5 version.
I will be a day one purchaser but have the feeling it'll be long out of my collection by the time PS5 hits.
Must not be from an official codemasters account as its now been taken down due to copyright.
it look good for me but i am not into racing games anymore
May get the PS4 version if it is going to be cheaper then upgrade to the PS5 version when available. I can hold off playing until the PS5 is out, I'm not that into my racers but do like to play them now and again.
Awesome news! Was planning on just waiting for the PS5 version but may as well just scoop up the PS4 one in October if this is the case.
So is it just 2K games charging for upgrades and selling the next gen version for more money then?
I wish they would bring back PSVR mode...even if it does cost more.
I need clarification on this free upgrade. So I buy the physical PS4 copy, then take it back to my games store, hand it over and grab the PS5 version free of charge?
@DigiTM
I don’t see that happening, I believe you will get an update over PSN for the PS4 version.
I don’t know this for sure, but what I expect.
@carlos82 I would expect Activision to follow 2k as well.
@DigiTM when you put your PS4 disk into the PS5, it will detect the hardware and download the necessary graphical updates.
@Jaxx420 and EA
@carlos82 At the moment EA are doing free upgrades. But I wouldnt put it past them.
