We're huge fans of Dreams here at Push Square Towers, but it's difficult to define what this PlayStation 4 exclusive is. With the possibilities almost limitless, the variety of experiences available within this title is ridiculous. There's no way everyone will have time to play everything.
If you're simply looking for some of the best stuff to play in Dreams, you've come to the right place. In this feature, we're going to pick out some of our favourite creations, be they games or otherwise. While we're on the subject, you should follow Push Square Picks, our collection which holds all the below examples and plenty more. We've been updating it every now and again with new discoveries and will continue to do so. Be sure to check it out if you want to see what's impressed us.
Without further ado, let's take a closer look at some choice Dreams creations.
Dreams isn't just for making games, and this fact is illustrated beautifully by this short film. Rabbit and Boy is a real achievement in animation, atmosphere, and characters. We won't spoil it, but it's a perfect example of using this software to build things other than interactive experiences. Please give this a watch.
We've already touched on this, but it's too good to ignore. This is an attempt to recreate the impressive Unreal Engine 5 tech demo, and it's brilliant. This version takes you through some familiar locations from the next-gen video, and when it's done, you're able to freely fly around and inspect all the detail yourself. Of course, it doesn't fully compare to UE5, but that it resembles it so closely is seriously impressive.
The Internet wants it, and Dreams enables it. The kart racer we all desire is now playable in Media Molecule's game, and it's worth a go. You might need to turn the brightness up on your TV, as it's extremely dark, but racing a horse-drawn carriage through the Gothic streets of Yharnam is a joy. We particularly like the use of fog gates as checkpoints. Really solid stuff, and a good laugh.
There's no gameplay in this one, it's just a really lovely mood piece. You get the gist from the above image, but it's even better in motion, with the rain falling and gentle music playing in the background. The black and white visuals look great, too.
This is an interesting one, as it's a real community effort. Set up by Media Molecule, #DreamWalk includes a whole bunch of user made, outdoors-focused, first person walks. Created in response to the coronavirus lockdowns around the globe, this playlist gives you a vicarious taste of the outside world. Some walks are on-rails, some are interactive, and some go to some wild places. The best part is that you can contribute by tagging your own creation with #DreamWalk; the developer may put it into the rotation.
This is just a small selection of Dreams creations you can find in our Push Square Picks collection. Be sure to give it a follow, as we'll be updating it periodically as we continue to explore the game. What are some of your favourite creations? Let us know in the comments section below.
