The marketing machine is kicking into gear for The Last of Us: Part II. We recently were treated to a new trailer, but Sony isn't stopping there. It's announced a video series named Inside The Last of Us: Part II, and the first entry is embedded above for your viewing pleasure.
This video takes a spoiler-free look at the game's story. We hear from many key figures at Naughty Dog, including Neil Druckmann, as they talk us through the basic premise of the sequel. A 19-year-old Ellie is living in a peaceful settlement in Jackson with Joel and Dina, but of course, something bad happens. It sends Ellie on a violent turn as she seeks revenge against those responsible.
"For The Last of Us: Part II, we're hoping to create a story that makes a commentary about the cycle of violence, and how acts can beget other acts," Druckmann says. This certainly tracks with what's been said before, that this is a game about hate.
"The thing that Neil and the studio really cared about is honouring Ellie and Joel specifically, and their journey as characters," adds narrative lead Halley Gross. "What is the honest next steps they would take? What are the truest moves that we could see them do?"
Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony outlines more videos in the series, promising similar spotlights on the gameplay, the details, and the world. These will come out weekly in the run up to the game's release on 19th June, so there's plenty to look forward to in the near future.
What do you think of this latest video on The Last of Us 2? As always, refrain from posting spoilers in the comments section below.

Oh yes!
Will make the wait a little more durable!
Just this minute had the credits roll on my second run of TLOU. Enjoyed it even more than the first time through. Really looking forward to part 2.
Been playing through The Last of Us Remastered to refresh myself before part 2. I cannot wait for this game!
Because I'm a mad man I've actually been playing the PS3 version of TLOU again, and am considering trying to "platinum" it (minus the online trophies) on there, also doing Left Behind and then do the remastered version as well all in the next 5 weeks.
Just got through Bill's town. Even on PS3 the graphics are still lovely. Framerate gets a bit choppy at times
@roe I know right it looks fantastic on PS3.
I'm not sure where I stand on little "inside the story" promo pieces like this. It's basically an official spoiler.
I get that I could just avoid it if I really wanted to, but yeah. Would rather they kept details quiet (even before the big leak we knew a bit too much imo)
@roe Unless you've been keeping in the dark about the game I don't think they said anything that people didn't know before (from PR media and not the spoilers).
@Athrum that's what I mean though. The stuff they're putting out on their own is kinda spoiling stuff anyway
Obviously that seems to be part of marketing these days with things like film and tv as well but I just think it's a bit of a shame, particularly with a game like this that sells itself.
Dude, I hope there's a nicely priced PS4 Pro console bundle to coincide with the release! Can't play this with that airplane engine noise in the background, lol.
EDIT: I see they're still $500 all these years later?! Is than pandemic pricing? Geez, I'll just get a PS5 then!
Still unsure if I get it after all the negativity that came to surface.
I might wait for reviews first.
Much more looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima.
@Gamakazil it just makes me more curious and excited to play this game, I have no expectations and just want to experience a story. Honestly if stories not going the way people want are what's causing all the fuss then I just don't know what to say!
Just stop, Naughty Dog.
@Gamakazil
I have pre-ordered it, I WILL play this game day one and I will do so with an open mind. F*** the haters to be honest. I have no clue what could be so upsetting about the story, but even if they killed every single character with a nuke or whatever in the end, I'm sure Naughty Dog will deliever a true, spectacular and gripping story that I will love every second of.
I think most people that doesn't like whatever happens is the ones that can't play a game with an open mind to begin with.
And you Gamakazil just sounds like ever single person that told me Days Gone would suck big time. And we all know how wrong those "concerns" was.
@Gamakazil
Sure, I make a mental note about it
'Yeah, blind fanboyism if I ever saw one...' - "The goal is nothing -> the journey is everything"
@Gamakazil I’ve seen the leaks and i still repreordered digitally if that’s ok with you? It’s fine to voice an opinion but don’t go around telling people what to think or what to do. The only thing you said I agree with is wait for reviews from people who have PLAYED the full game
@Akurusu for somebody who will not be buying and hates Naughty Dog you seem to read and post on every story that comes up on this site. Your not going to play the last of us part 2 grow up and move on.
@Gamakazil if everybody liked the same thing the world would be a boring place. I know why your upset and I am too but at the end of the day it’s not my or your story to tell. I still believe there was only 1 blues brothers film and Indiana Jones ended after 3 so if TLOU2 is not for you pretend it doesn’t exist 😉
The comments were as bad as I expected. Just the normal fan I know the story better than the creators of the story stuff.
No spoilers? I know twice as much as i did yesterday! But for the first time i'm getting hyped...it's gonna be a long wait.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk I’m doing them a favor. The game is only going to keep getting spoiled as new leaks keep coming up. Idiot.
@Akurusu 🤣 moi an idiot. I bet you’ve posted spoilers on YouTube and twitter under the banner I’m doing you a favour or I’m saving you £50/$60.
@Zeke68 You're free to enjoy the game, but you shouldn't insult anyone if you have no clue what the leaks are about. I highly recommend waiting for a few reviews first.
@Scollurio
When did I insult anyone ? Apart from a general slap on the cheek to all the haters out there that never planned to play the game anyway ?
I just point out that most people that feel entitled to complain on other peoples work (Naughty Dog in this example) isn't open minded enough to play a game that dare to challenge the usual bad storywriting we got in videogames these days.
If you don't like it, don't play it. But don't lecture me what I should like or not. It's you and people like Gamakazil that insults me if anyone here is insulting anyone to begin with!
I have seen all leaks and I’m not happy but I refuse to jump on the hate wagon right now. I will play it and then judge it. I’m still interested in it and maybe it works in the bigger narrative picture. Well see...
@Zeke68 Again you don't know the leaks so don't talk about "open minded" I'd love to hear your honest opinion about it once you get to play the game. Not because I want to prove any point, I'm genuinely more interested in your opinion than the game itself.
