Final Fantasy VII Remake is out now on PlayStation 4, and as promised, Square Enix has released not one, but two dynamic themes on the PlayStation Store. One is completely free as long as you play the demo before the 11th May, while the other is free for PlayStation Plus members. The former is simply titled 'Final Fantasy VII Remake Theme', while the latter is called 'Final Fantasy VII Remake Cloud Theme'.
And guess what? They both look fantastic. The normal theme features some stunning artwork of the cast looking off into the sunrise, while the Cloud theme has, er, Cloud looking up at the Shinra building. Both themes have slight animation, their own icons, and their own music tracks. Neat.
This is the normal theme (available to anyone who plays the demo before 11th May):
And this is the Cloud theme (exclusive to PS Plus subscribers):
Which one do you like best? Rock out to that remade battle theme in the comments section below.

The sunrise one is really, really nice. Peaceful music too.
@ShogunRok u are from US? Just wondering if there is a day one patch for people that have already downloaded it.
@ellsworth004 Nah, there's no day one patch, despite what people have been saying the past few days. Was never promised or confirmed by Square Enix.
Might be one soon, but... Not yet.
2 free themes that's for the article says and then you read further to find out the first one is only free if you played the demo and the second one is only free if you pay for or have PlayStation Plus so technically only one of them is free unless you pay for Plus or have a free trial of Plus
The themes aren't available yet in the states.
@ShogunRok ^
@ShogunRok well good, im old and dont usually stay up this late anymore. Im rdy for midnight!
I can't find psplus theme on us psn, I already preordered and preload the game and finished the demo.
Edit: Already download it on us psn.
That themes looks better than before!
Thanks PlayStation, always love changing my theme keep it fresh and new. All Games purchased should come with a free theme.
The Cloud theme looks amazing...very moody.
Can anyone tell me how to download the Cloud's theme? Because I have active PS+ subscriber but I don't see this theme in my gallery at all...
@tineluin look it up in the store in the themes section
Love the sunrise theme. I'm currently using in game screenshots, but think I'll use that for a while
@ellsworth004 I did, but I only found the normal theme. I'm already at my wits' end. Is there something I missed...
@potter32 you wally!
themes look great. using the sunrise one atm. May switch down the line.
@Incarna It's not so much that it's a remake of an earlier theme as that both iterations are remakes of one of the most iconic pieces of FFVII key art
I want to say that the Cloud image was even the original box art for FFVII on the PS1 (speaking for NA, at least).
The Cloud one gives me goosebumps and I'm not even that big of a Final Fantasy fan. Takes me straight back to 96 or whenever it was that I first saw screens of FFVII in a magazine.
@tineluin On the game tile press down on your controller until you come to the Playstion Store section. Hit right And you should see all the DLC that is available for the game, including the themes. If they are not there, they may not be available in your region yet unfortunately.
I prefer the look of the Remake theme (the one with the cast of characters) but the music for the Cloud & Sephiroth theme.
As great as these look, shame that the game actually ends at Midgar then I'm gonna have to pay more money to see anything else. Probably have to buy a ps5 as well. Not happy with the business model for the game at all. Shocking that gamers have to pay 50 to 60 quid for not even 15% of the full final fantasy 7 experience
@Interscoper but to be fair it is the length of a full FF game. With the story they originally wanted to tell with FF7. In my opinion i think it is good how they are doing it. You are probably safe on buying buying a ps5 they will probably dual release it considering not everyone is gonna buy a ps5 right at launch. If that was the case why release it for ps4 in the first place.
@Interscoper Innocent question. Have you played it. And played it to completion?
I am on chapter 8, 12 hours in, and i literally couldnt care less that they have split it into several games. What's here is brilliant. If splitting it into several parts means we will get a number of games of this quality then thats fine. Each release is still going to be a 30-50 hour game. I'm loving every second. The scope of this game will be much bigger than the original game.
If this was a brand new game split into several parts I dont think people would complain.
Trails of cold steel (taking a left field example) is in 4 parts making a whole story, and i would never dream of asking the devs to have released that as a single release lasting upwards of 250 hours.
The FF Remake collection, when all is said and done, wont be any different. I think it will be pushing 200 hours of content.
Square are not just pushing out the original FF7 again. This is a completely new game with new story, and should be treated as such.
Just my opinion and not trying to troll. I do understand your perspective on it
Really nice themes for free. Will they be giving other countries the opportunity to get the Tifa one too?
Absolutely loving the remake so far.
The cloud theme looks wonderful, but that's not free for me since I don't have PS+
@Bliquid @1_W1NG3D_4NG3L Being told that something is free and then finding out that you can't actually get it for free is kinda annoying.
Went out first thing this morning to buy the game. Waiting for it to finish installing.
That normal theme is amazing. I can't believe my system background music is the updated version of the Field Music...I am listening to it now and it gives me chills.
Thank you Square Enix. You made my Friday!
@PinkiePieAddict Nope, they are dynamic, both of them have very slight animation. The first zooms in and out, there's a dust effect, and Red's tail flickers. The second has a dust effect, and the lights flicker.
Any kind of animation makes a theme dynamic based on the PlayStation Store's categorisation.
Whilst i prefer the look of the sunrise one, i prefer the music on the cloud/midgar theme. Ill probably swap between the two
Themes look pretty good. I'll probably use the Midgar one since I've been using the same theme for two years now.
Be getting these later but I did get the sephiroth preorder one and it's great. Just have to finish work now.
@Bliquid @crimsontadpoles Let's all be cool, no need to argue.
It's gotta be the group one. Well, some of the group 😂
@Bliquid ok I'll try
@ShogunRok I was going on how they were listed in the store. Good to hear that they're dynamic!
Both say STATIC THEME on the PSN store.
No links & neither is technically free... Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame one. I won't fall for this again.
@spoonmanx They're not
Don't care how many free themes I have to add.
BEARNARD IS NOT BEING REPLACED.
@crimsontadpoles Do you still have access to the free trial for PS+ ? If so, you can just use that and get the Cloud theme
