If you're hankering for a new game in the vein of Dark Souls or Bloodborne, you should probably take a look at Mortal Shell. Newly announced from developer Cold Symmetry and publisher PlayStack, the game is a hardcore RPG that looks mightily impressive in its debut trailer. Check it out above.
On the face of it, Mortal Shell appears to be a pretty straightforward soulslike title, but it has some interesting gameplay wrinkles that help it stand out. As you traverse the creepy landscape taking down horrid enemies, you can embody deceased warriors, acquiring their skills and abilities in combat. "Awaken these Mortal Shells, occupy their bodies and significantly widen your understanding of different forms of combat," reads the press release. Each type of Shell has its own skill tree, too, so it seems there will be plenty to delve into.

The game also features strategic, hard-hitting combat -- with magic seemingly playing a larger role -- and an open ended campaign, allowing you to make your own way through the world. We'll have to wait and see how it all plays, of course, but the game has made a strong first impression.
Mortal Shell is coming to PlayStation 4 in Q3 2020. Do you like the look of this one? Come out of your shell in the comments below.

I'll Pass After Finishing Nioh 2 I'am Going To take a Break On Souls Type Games For a While
That... looks pretty cool and the mechanics sound interesting
It's particularly impressive from a core team of only 15 people!
That look pretty amazing.i can dig this game.looking forward to this game.as i enjoy playing hard video games.word up son
Looks pretty cool, has a God of War vibe about it too.
Not usually interested in Soulsborne games but this one has me intrigued.
The game looks fantastic but the problem is just like DS nowi just bored after a big chunk of the game. I had so much fun and like the flick of 's switch im sick of it just defeated the 4 kings. Just killed priscilla i didnt like that. I think i will kill Solaire so i wont have to do those terrible things again. 😢
I love the setting. Will pick it up in the lull period between GoT and Christmas. (Saving Cyberpunk for PS5 on Christmas Day.)
Looks promising, but these games live or die by how they feel to play, so we'll just have to wait and see.
The art style looks amazing. But after getting burned by The Surge, Lords of the Fallen and Code Vein, I'll wait for reviews about how the combat feels.
@Athrum Was thinking the same thing...
The setting is great, but Lords of the Fallen and Code Vein fell flat with me.
@Shepherd_Tallon @Athrum Yep it is all about the combat in these games. If that doesn't feel right than the whole game is almost unplayable. A slightly bland art style I can overlook and put up with. I quite liked The Surge however, once my brain stopped comparing it to Soulsborne games.
@johnnyshoulder @athrum @shepherd_tallon agree that combat needs to be on point, and you just can’t tell from a video. I’d say though that Surge 2 nailed the combat. But yeah, Code Vein’s combat felt so mushy and inaccurate, which was disappointing because it had some great ideas. I don’t know this developer, but here’s hoping the combat is solid, because Mortal Shell looks GOOD!
@Athrum I think Code Vein was the best of that bunch you mentioned. I enjoyed elements of that quite a lot. But yeah, none of them are anywhere near close to the standard of Dark Souls, Sekiro, Bloodborne, Nioh.
Definitely has the feel of a hardcore Dante's Inferno. Which is no bad thing as that game was great.
Wow.. almost like Dante's Inferno. Love it! Since I want Dante's Inferno sequels.
God of War meets Dark Souls? I'm intrigued
