Proof that even with the worst marketing strategy since those wailing babies Sony can still command insane levels of attention: PlayStation 5 architect Mark Cerny’s fake Game Developers Conference speech has been watched over 12 million times since debuting earlier in the week. That’s an enormous number for a presentation that was filled with four syllable words – the majority of which few will understand.
It also underlines what a missed opportunity this was: the Japanese giant failed to show a second of next-gen gameplay footage and couldn’t even put together any tangible demos. We know a whole lot more about the PS5’s SSD, for example, but we don’t know what kind of advancements it will bring. And as for PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility, well, fans are still baffled by that. The manufacturer has the industry at its fingertips, but it’s making a right pig’s ear of it all.

I think people are making a little to much about all the negativity in regards to this reveal. We still have 8 months or so till the console is released. Building hype is an art form, and Sony have so much time on their hands to do that.
In a few months time when they reveal a shiny new sparkling horizon zero dawn 2 trailer, all that negativity is going to wash away.
We all know what big box office games Sony has up their sleeves, i think people should have some patience and faith.
@Sircaw Well said
@Sircaw Oh it'll all be fine in the end, but this was a disappointing debut.
I watched around 15 minutes of it and after he kept discussing world building of Jak 2 and the history lesson and HDDs, I turned it off and waited for a summary of it.
I understood what he was discussing in that 15 minutes but it felt like a waste of my time.
my brain didn't melt ; ) although sometimes it was kinda slow... loved that stuff... I was ready for another good hour of bare metal details... I would loved more details on possible RAM usage patterns with this blazing fast SDD and controllers... also more details on custom desing of the GPU or I/O path improvements between all system components, etc.
Some tech demo or realtime bench would have been great also---
Brain Melting? Brain Melting?!?!?

"What Were They Thinking"
I think you get the idea. 😉
@Sircaw They still have to show the console itself, and the controller, reveal the price. They basically have to reveal the PS5 first
Plenty of time.
@rjejr Cerny's mind is faster than an SSD, you clearly can't process it all.
I play this on a loop as my nighttime sleep sound machine.
This remind me of ps4 pro presentation, thats ps4 pro presentation is like this where's it's made for devs and not consumer. Maybe sony just didn't want to start ps5 marketing yet, I hope the marketing is way better than this when it start.
The crucial thing about this type of negativity is that not much of an impression on gamers has actually been made here given the lack of tangibles. We basically have boredom and mild frustration which could easily be swept away with a trailer or two. It would be much worse for Sony to make a strong bad impression with an announcement than a non impression. They had a blank slate before and more or less still do.
@Octane His brain may be fast, but the rest of him was moving less than those fake 2D silhouettes.
They should have had Bernie Sanders give the lecture.
And over double the likes compared to dislikes. It's almost as if the negativity was the minority.
@get2sammyb
But was it really a debut?
Its funny seeing all these so called "tech experts" on twitter and youtube podcasts talking out their arse every single day but when the man himself Mark Cerny breaks everything down on such a technical level they say its boring and hes lying lol cant make this up.
At the end of the day, Microsoft have played their hands very early and I don't think it will hurt Sony no matter what.
We all know Microsoft biggest launch title for the XSEX is halo infinite. A game that has been designed for running on a xone Jaguar cpu. No matter how much 4k/ray tracing...etc they can slap on it, it will still be a last Gen game design wise.
On the other hand Sony will be showing games that utilize the full capabilities of the ps5 hardware from the get go and that's gonna make a huge difference during their presentation.
All Sony has to do is to show SPIDERMAN 2 or Horizon 2 running on ps5 and all these talks of teraflops and backward compatibility will be quickly forgotten.
@get2sammyb - Was it though? We were promised info on the PS5, and that's exactly what we got; now we know a lot more on exactly what the PS5 hardware will be like, with a more software-focused presentation likely to follow it in a few months (around the time E3 would've happened).
Honestly, most of the 'problems' some people seem to have with this video (claiming the backwards compatibility statements were 'confusing' when they really weren't, expecting an E3-level presentation months prior to the event even though that kind of thing was likely always planned for said event, complaining about the lack of 'hardware superiority' to the Xbox based purely on teraflops, while ignoring the other technical features the console has, etc.) seem more to do with their expectations for the event than Sony actually dropping the ball here and I think that's reflected in both the number of views it got, and the ratio of likes-to-dislikes (admittedly, the number of dislikes is a fair bit higher than expected, but it's still substantially outweighed by the number of likes). Could it have been better? Sure, but that's what the E3/June presentation is for; this was never meant to be anything other than an early look at the specs for the PS5, and when viewed from that perspective, I can't see how what we got was that much of a disappointment.
I'm struggling to understand the negative press you along with kinda funny ign etc are giving Sony right now. It was for devs and anyone remotely interested in what Sony has in store for us. Games consoles are more Than just games and a bit of appreciation for what work these people put into delivery your entertainment wouldn't go a miss. The talk was exactly as advertised and mark said there will be plenty of times for games later before he even began. As you all say numbers don't lie and 12m people clearly don't share you're games games games view. Stop bashing and show appreciation. Hope everyone is staying safe during these difficult times.
