Still sceptical about the capabilities of Dreams? Perhaps this will give you an indication of where creators are currently at – and have your imagination soaring about what they’ll achieve in the future. We’ve been asked a dozen times now: can you make an open world game? Well, now we have proof that it’s possible.
This creation by giant585dark features a sprawling map, with motorbikes and even helicopters to help you traverse it. Ignore the protagonist’s similarities to the Hat in Time hero, and you have a wildly imaginative creation here, with rock solid controls and tons of awesome secrets to discover. You can add it to your Play Later queue through here.
Honestly, we were impressed with what people were making during Early Access, but now the full title’s out we’re consistently being blown away by what's being cooked up. This is easily going to be one of the defining games of the generation, and to think that it’s only going to get better from here on out is scrambling our brains.

It’s really impressed me in the couple of days I’ve had it. The only thing that’s struck me so far is the wibbly wobbly running with characters!
@nessisonett Yeah, I think in time people will come up with better puppets that people will build from, but I agree that default one from Early Access isn't great.
Beauty of this game is that the community will improve it, though.
I'm still doing the tutorials but even some of those are making me feel awesome. Breathing life into a scene feels great
@get2sammyb Don’t get me wrong, it’s unintentionally hilarious. I think in a year, Dreams will look rather different from how it is at release. Communities always find ways to push the boundaries and when the ceiling’s this high, it might be the PS4 rather than Dreams that’s holding the content back. I’ve definitely noticed my fans kicking in loud on certain Dreamscapes.
@nessisonett Yeah, Dreams makes my PS4 sound like it's about to explode.
The more I hear about dreams, the more I feel it would have been better off as a PC game because I don’t know how much the PS4 can take lol. That’s why I’m skeptical about this game
Maybe it might be an idea for Push Square to do mini reviews on some of the best Dreams or ones that are the most interesting over the coming months.
@AdamNovice I want us to do something, but not sure of the most interesting approach at the moment.
@get2sammyb I remember back when I subbed to PCGamer, every month they'd do a bit near the back of the mag where they'd select a few of the best mods and whatnot they'd come across that month. It's probably easier when you're working with a monthly mag but maybe a simple weekly or monthly article where some of the Push Square gang write a paragraph or so about a Dream they've discovered. Would be awesome to have some regular recommendations from you guys.
It's like the workshop content on the Steam version of Hat in Time.
Love Dreams.
I'd honestly expect the plan to be on the ps5 to improve performance. Use the launch to start the community, and in a year you launch a + version on ps5 that can process larger scenes and load sequential pieces seamlessly. Allow creators some small monetization factor and watch the synergy between platform, peripheral in the form of some VR attach base, service from ps+, and user created content.
tl:dr the game is a joy so far. Buy it.
@Jackjasper think they have already spoke about their plans for the ps5
How do you even find things like this on Dreams?? Everytime I log in, all I find easily is mediocre creations that are published recently. Half creations and "WIP" ones. Its pretty hard to find these gems.
@get2sammyb
"I’ll also be diving in and out of Dreams, as I feel like Early Access creators have been waiting until launch week to publish their best work."
Gotta give you credit, good call!
It was nicely done, but a little directionless. My favorites have been The Pilgrim, Machinelore and Pip Gemwalker. I've seen some impressive shorts, models and promising WIPs. I haven't created anything of my own, but I'm working through the tutorials.
@get2sammyb well u told me that it was possible...didnt take long for that to be proven. If u think of the possibilities this is probably the greatest game ever made. Can u imagine what we will be seeing 5 years from now. This is exciting!
@Deadhunter Pip Gemwalker was the best Captain Toad clone I've ever played. True it's the only Captain Toad clone I've ever played but it was really good. My only problem was jumping off the top on level 6 - I was missing 1 gem - and landing in an area of the maze trapped by the blocks. Besides that it was all A+.
@get2sammyb Thanks for the link in the article. 90% of the time I spend in Dreams is just going to be levels PS links to.
Have you come across any Splatoon clones? I feel like LBP had a decent one w/ the MGS gun, but LBP released before Splatoon so I must be misremembering. Or I may be thinking of a Minecraft mod.
@Akurusu thats stupid.
On ps4 its much better 2 skus to work towards and not a million different
@get2sammyb like @AdamNovice said the site should do something letting us know about the good creations. Maybe not review them but do a article every month highlighting some of the best creations. That would be cool. These peoples work should be reconized somehow, with as much as u guys like this "game" im sure u have something good cooked up for us!
And when i say "game" i mean that as a compliment. Dreams is so much more than just a game. Im truly blown away by what ive seen so far.
already releasing more games on dreams than Xbox, welp
Some guy made a mini Fallout 4 in Dreams and it's insanely detailed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWsWdp7VUMw&feature=share
OMG YOU ALL HAVE TO CHECK THIS OUT!!
I just played this and am just utterly speechless! Fallout4 "remade"
https://youtu.be/kch6VSwY9CI
EDIT: ive been with dreams since the beta, today is my first time jumping in since full release and holy cow smokes there seems to be a TONNE of new things and some really high quality stuff! For dreams at least, though the possibilities are undeniable indeed!
Im just blown away atm. Imagine what people will be doing in a few years!
Am I right in thinking Media molecule are working on a SP campaign of their own too?
Just imagine what people will do with Dreams given 1-2 years time to work and learn it properly.
Impressive, all of it.... What a clever idea.... Anyone else here remember "the shoot em up construction kit" on c64 about 30 years ago?
@mini_piekarnik There’s no reason to turn this into a console war.
@The_ghostmen What?
@Dodoo wait, there isn't one?!
Downloaded Dreams last night, just working my way through the tutorials. Going to have fun with this I can tell already!
This is impressive if it looks this good right now just wait in a few months what will be created. I ll get it tomorrow
@slampog just imagine what they can do with psvr when that gets finally implemented, there is a lot of potential for that.
@Dodoo the last time I heard yes they are working on single player, not sure what happened to it though.
honestly though my only gripe with dreams is the janky animation for the games shown but think that is a long standing trademark for media molecule especially with how little big planet was.
@Deadlyblack Thats where i recognise the character from.
Urge to buy rising...
@Riparcade2 Ah SEUCK yes, I spent hours making games on that utility. You could even save your finished game to a cassette and lend it to your friends.
Id like to get into Dreams, but I cant see Id have the time these days...
I made a really cool round thing...and colored it blue...😅 #slayingthattutorial
Man I can't imagined what we'll get if people can sells their games on dreams 😃
That looks impressive, I doubt I'd actually want to play it but clearly a lot of effort went into it
I said earlier I was getting tempted... Well I just bought it (a steal at under £30 too). If you see a Doctor Who and DBZ crossover kart game, you'll know it was me.
I found a open "universe" game of sorts for Superman, its nothing but flying around really fast but its really pretty and its pretty huge. I sent a screenshot to a mate of mine whose a big Superman fan and for a good while i had him believe it was a new Superman game what had been announced haha.
@Ristar24 good to hear I'm not the only one with such memories. In respect to more - I feel your pain 👍
@Riparcade2 Thats it, so much spare time back then. Thinking about it, SEUCK let you do something even Dreams doesnt, produce a 'finished' game the you could play without the utility, very impressive for the time.
@get2sammyb A weekly 'Dreams Corner' article would be great, where you have a wander around the best Dreams creations of the last seven days.
Feel free to come up with a less naff name.
@Akurusu let me just roll my eyes very very slowly. War? Some humans develop a sense of humour.
@mini_piekarnik You missed the point. There’s no reason to bring down another brand just because PlayStation got a new release. Just enjoy the game and leave it there.
Wow, that's incredible. I don't think I'd want to play it, but what it shows is possible and what will be made is just insane.
The game reminds me of a more rounded to roblox and that's not a bad thing. Most of the stuff that i have played in dreams is pretty simple but they have charm which makes me play more or seek out other creations. I'm planning on diving in deep this weekend with my son so we both can learn how to create.
