Tomorrow is the 31st January 2020 (at the time of writing this article). What's so important about that, you may ask? Well, seven whole years ago, Sony announced the PlayStation Meeting out of nowhere, back when we were all waiting on information regarding the PlayStation 4. Ah, we remember the hype like it was yesterday.
Indeed, the announcement dropped on the 31st January 2013 -- and this has got some fans pondering whether Sony will make use of the same date when announcing the heavily rumoured PlayStation 5 reveal event.
Now, while we certainly wouldn't be against this happening -- if only to stem the tide of rampant rumours -- this theory essentially boils down to wishful thinking. The bottom line is that Sony's continued silence on the subject of the PS5 is leading to a lot of guesswork, and none of it is backed by concrete evidence.
Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? We're not optimistic. As always, we're just going to have to wait and see.

I wouldn't mind a look back article to before the PS4 reveal, like what was the expectation on here and what did most think Sony needed to do to get fans on board.
I wasn't on PS at the time so I'm curious to see what the general feeling among the staff and community were in the weeks prior to the conference.
Yea the majority of the hype has turned into frustration, and with Sonys poor communication and lack of "crowd control" it's going to be a blow back when they do announce it and not even half of these crazy predictions come true. Their unrealistic.
I wouldn’t be shocked if invitations went out tomorrow, but then I wouldn’t be surprised if they went out a week later. Sony gave the press 3 weeks notice for the PS4 reveal, and if the reserved space in NYC for February 29 is accurate, a February 7 invitation would give the press the same 3 weeks. Sony is launching a console in almost 10 months. It’s happening sooner rather than later.
@Ken_Kaniff yeah. At this point there’s gonna be massive disappointment if full BC with the PS line isn’t announced, after so many rumors and nothing from them to squash it.
@Stragen8 but that’s the thing, they are just rumors. People just making stuff up, it’s not coming from Sony. Honestly everyone needs to understand that the system isn't going to be BC beyond PS4. They made it clear this gen that they don’t have a way to do ps3 and the way they already attempted PS2 died quickly after. I wish it would happen, but it seems pretty clear it won’t unfortunately.
Some Fans Reckon the PS5 Reveal Event May Be Announced Tomorrow

This is definitely going to happen. The announcement will be made by the unicorn that flies out of my a$$.
Announce it already!! I wanna get my preorder in 🙂
@Ken_Kaniff That's not Sony's fault that people have inflated expectations or because the internet has no patience.
If they reveal the ps5 any later than Feb I will truly be surprised, I have a sure fire it will be revealed and then having adequate time to make decisions for purchasing and build momentum to release date. I looked back at the teaser for ps4 on here and the vid brung back memories of how good that really was. They learned from the mistakes of ps3 and born a new era, ps5 will just follow the same recipe and create a decent console.
FIngers crossed soon.
Still chuckle at the PS4 announcement show..

Maybe Sony will pull a Nintendo and lift the lid completely off PS5 only a couple of months before the release date.
Microsoft is probably going to use E3 to spill the beans on Series X.
Would not be surprised if nothing happened in February.
It will be tomorrow because some guy said so In the Pub yesterday Er hopefully soon, please SONY?!?! The wait is getting unbearable
I really hope they announce it soon. Not for their sake, but after a week of Impeachment, Wuhan and Kobe I'd just like Feb to be a nice change of pace
Also imploring Nintendo for a Mercy Direct.
I'm just as excited as anyone to hear more but people are losing it over this (as well as waiting for a direct from Nintendo). The fact that people are genuinely frustrated and getting upset is comical to me. Just play some games in the meantime, it'll happen when it happens, absolutely no reason to get yourself worked up by it.
@AdamNovice But like I stated it is Sonys fault for not announcing some "crowd control" when these rumors got out of hand and saying these things arent true.
@Stragen8 Yep these rumors build expectations that cant be met, and this is where the old Sony that used to communicate with its audience would have come out and controlled this. This new disengaged Sony is gonna get some kind of blow back from there silence.
@Ken_Kaniff None of that is Sony's fault. They won't and absolutely shouldn't respond to every crazy rumour on the internet and because people are shouting at them to reveal features and specs.
They are a business. They pay people alot of money to develop and deliver a finely tuned and targetted marketing campaign and release information as and when the time is right and as they see fit.
Console launches are hugely important. They have to get it right. They failed with Playstation 3. That they turned it around was down to hard work and acknowledging their mistakes. They cant afford to get it wrong again. Playstation is an increasingly important part of Sony's entire business. They need to get the messaging right to appeal to a broad cross-section of gamers, not just their core. And the timing needs to be spot on to avoid giving their competitors an advantage
Meh. I'm excited for the first proper reveal of course but it's much of a muchness right now. We know the console is coming at the end of the year anyway so it'll all fit into place sooner or later
@AdamNovice to be honest the run up to PS4 on here was pretty much the same as it is now for ps5. Lots of rumours, anticipation, excitement, guess work and impatience!
@Octane I'm taking that as official confirmation
It sounds like people are grasping at straws at this point, people are getting desperate for PS5 info.
That reminds me of Asimov's Foundation when a few think Hari Seldon will appear at a precise date anniversary. Good vibes, it must be true. Haha
Rip kobe. 🐐

@Ken_Kaniff You say lack of communication and crowd control yet Sony are kicking back feet up watching US the fans whip ourselves into a frenzy for any drop of information. It’s marketing genius.
@BarefootBowser it's simple really. if they tell us we can play ALL of our ps4 games with better performance and fidelty on our shiny new ps5, that alone will be enough for many people to make the jump. b/c of legacy titles doesn't hurt, either. I don't think sony needs a stellar ps5 exclusive to push ps5 consoles next fall. it would help of course, but it isn't totally mandatory. i expect the heavy hitters to begin releasing in 2021 if we are going to be realistic.
@Angelus3K It is until they reveal the thing and all these ridiculous rumors dont come true and people are pissed.
So we're waiting for an announcement about an announcement
@Ken_Kaniff How can people be pissed at rumours! You’re right tho, they will be which is just stupid lol
@Angelus3K Yea ppl start buying into these rumors and ultimately it leads to disappointment because the expectations are unrealistic. Same is gonna happen here unfortunately bc Sony isnt talking at all.
@Ken_Kaniff That's their problem, not Sony's. No one told them to buy into rumors. This is why consumers should ignore rumors and wait for Sony to confirm what is true and false. If anything, this builds up anticipation either way, so it isn't hurting them. If anything, it keeps the interest going.
@BarefootBowser Well that is certainly your opinion, but many out there will buy one for those very reasons. I certainly will.
@InsertUsername It is Sonys problem when ppl dont buy the console because of it. And it's hard to ignore rumors when every Playstation website known to man is publishing them because they get views.
Personally, I am getting more than a bit fed up. My TV broke 2 weeks ago and I've been waiting for PS5 info to decide on which tv I want to buy. In the meantime watching movies on my 6.5" cell is a bit tough.
@BarefootBowser i see where you are coming from, but for someone like me, who never bought a ps4 pro and is still making use of the base ps4 model, higher frame rates and fiedlity is a big selling point. based on the history of console launches, the lineup is usually not very good so i'm not expecting that trend to change this time around either. i expect there to be some decent offerings but nothing spectacular. that said, there are certainly some 3rd party games i would rather play on ps5... such as cyberpunk etc.
@Ken_Kaniff I honestly doubt any real minority will be upset enough not to. Lol. Only the small minority who are complaining online will probably be pissy, but they will eventually get over it and likely buy it. Sony isn't going to be concerned over that. Those who are bothered by the mass of rumors can simply not click on said articles. Isn't hard for me. And when I do, my expectations are low.
@BarefootBowser "You are going to buy a PS5 to play PS4 games without any other benefits shown to you?"
I see plenty of benefits, but to each their own.
Fair enough.
"Just so you know though most people don't buy the console on day 1 and will wait until there is a good reason to spend the money or the price is low enough that it doesn't matter."
You act like I'm new to video games(gamer since '86). Lol. I'm well aware of that. However, many do buy consoles day one. I never said everyone does. If so, PS4 sales would be in the hundreds of millions. Either way, as long as Sony does everything right during the reveal and come launch, it will sell one way or another.
@BarefootBowser i don't need a "ps5" version. i want to play my ps4 version on ps5 so that it runs better. i can promise you the game will run TERRIBLY on base ps4. you can tell from the gameplay footage that they are pushng more than the console can handle. control had the exact same problems and i don't expect this to get any better with future 3rd party games... meaning ps5 will potentially be a solution. will all ps4 games run on ps5 with performance boost out of the box? will they require a patch from the developer? who knows... but i'm hoping it is the former.
@AdamNovice damn straight. It's the generation of instant gratification. Sony will reveal it when they're good and ready, and it's gonna be awesome. People need to grow some patience. I hate the internet.
@InsertUsername hate to be that guy, but ps4 has sold over 106 million units. So technically, sales ARE in the hundreds of millions.
@Ladyvent300 Walmart has a nice 65inch curved uhd samsung right now for $618.
@AdamNovice
I found one: https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2013/01/rumour_sony_struggling_with_early_ps4_production_issues
Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
@Porco Dude your crazy if you think a major exclusive isnt important at launch. It's the only deciding factor between the majority
of ppl getting one or not. Like you said every launch is bad and I've bought the last few consoles day one with disappointment. So this time around if theirs not games that blow me away I'll wait a few years until good games come before I ever buy.
@Darklordcreeper was looking at Sony Bravia or Samsung 800 series. My cat knocked my 40" off the table, (too bad the " stands aren't weighted", really wasn't worried about screen size. Tryin to budget TV and PS5.
@Ken_Kaniff whether someone buys the ps5 in november or buys it in april 2021 makes no difference to sony. so long as there is something noteworthy within the first 12 months, sony has nothing to worry about. but you proved my point: consoles have a history of launching with medicore software, but look at how successful ps4 sales were even with this caveat?
@Porco Sony was that successful at launch bc Xbox the bed not bc the games. I'm a huge Playstation fan but a realist. Sony doesnt really put out good games worth a new system purchase until 2 to 3 years into it. Which I'll wait that long this time if I have to. Not gonna jump the gun like I have in the past unless they prove me wrong at launch.
@Ken_Kaniff agreed that sony was very slow to get their games out this gen but i have some hope that they learned a lesson. i don't think horizon 2 is that far out and i would expect it in 2021 without question. creating a new ip and/or completely new vision (god of war) is far more difficult and time consuming than a sequel which already has the foundation in place so for this reason the wait shouldn't be as bad this time around. i am more concerned about naughty dog and where they go after last of us 2 launches. for all we know, they have secretely been working on a new game behind the scenes since they do have two teams at the studio.
@Porco You make a good point. Hopefully your right. Btw rumor is that Naughty Dog is working on a sci-fi type game which if true would be an instant system seller! I've been saying for awhile now that the only style game missing in Sonys first party library is a good sci-fi game.
Still hoping for a ps5 reveal in the first week of February.. I read somewhere a rumour of 5 February.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed
@Ladyvent300 that must be one gnarly cat! Well good luck with your search. Hope you find an awesome tv for your PS5!!🤩
I think they're going to announce the PS5 in Dreams when it comes out.
