Nintendo is a water-tight operation most of the time, but no publisher is perfect. Via an infographic from the company, the release date for SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has been inadvertently revealed.
According to this timeline, the remaster of the fan favourite PlayStation 2 title will be ready for release on 22nd May. We can quite comfortably presume this date will be the same across platforms, and we'd expect THQ Nordic to confirm the news themselves pretty soon.
What's interesting about this release date, at least on PS4, is that it means the game comes out a week before a little thing called The Last of Us: Part II. The two titles are probably targeting different audiences, but we imagine Naughty Dog's latest would steal sales away from most games regardless. The two games are about as far apart as can be in terms of content, though, so who knows.
Are you excited to pick up SpongeBob Rehydrated on PS4? Will you wait for The Last of Us 2, or will you in fact be buying both? Blow some bubbles in the comments below.

Looks like The Last of Us: Part II is going to be delayed again — you don't want to be going up against SpongeBob.
SpongeBob just shat his SquarePants.
I'm ready.
damn sony must be panicing now
Its like paw patrol taking on Red Dead 2 all over again. I love it!
Just cancelled last of us pre order. Damm you sponge bob, naughty dog should either release early or delay, you cant go up against sponge bob lol
The Last of Us doesn't stand a chance.
well thats it, last of ud 2 is going to flop hard
There’s a massive crossover audience for Spongebob and The Last Of Us due to similar themes.
I expect Rehydrated to do well since it's a remake of a beloved game.
Sales may be hindered by it releasing close to TLoU 2, but knowing THQ they'll probably consider the sales a flop, which would be a shame.
I’m getting this no matter what.
The Last of What?
Sponge bob is GOTY for me
Sorry NaughtyDog, but you can’t compete with the power of nostalgia.
Well some of you may mock but Rehydrated is a day one buy for me, whilst i couldn't care less about The Last of Us 2, could never get into the first one. Battle for Bikini Bottom is a cult classic and has a surprisingly strong following so i can see it doing quite well.
I imagine it shouldn't hurt it too badly it's a remake of a beloved game that will probably sell well over the next year or so anyways.
I'll still get the game, just won't play it right off.
@Rob_230 @Toadie @Akurusu @ZeroOverOne @suikoden @Orpheus79V @Daleaf @Anguspuss @LiamCroft Agreed, just changed my wallpaper to SpongeBob as a sign of support.
@Toadie Don’t know about everyone else but I wasn’t mocking lol
Many adults were children when SpongeBob first aired, I myself remember the hype up to the pilot and the subsequent aftermath. At this point it's like adults and Transformers, TMNT, Ghostbusters, or G.I.Joe... if you like it, it's because it plays to your childhood nostalgia and if you cannot connect with that and enjoy it, no matter your age, then you have a sad outlook on life.
All too often I hear people saying "yeah, but I grew up"... Why? Why would you want to? Of course we all age and mature, but why would you want, nay choose, to abandon the very essence of pure joy and happiness? Have fun because you only get one chance. I will happily pick up both games and not hesitate to present them to the checkout clerk with a smile.
@Nintyfan one of the best comments ive read in ages. Totally agree
I'm buying both cause both will be amazing titles
