Despite the fact that we haven't actually seen the console, we know a decent amount about the PlayStation 5. Sony has already shared information on a number of features, including hardware-based ray tracing, 3D audio, and the console's ultra-high speed SSD. But how much don't we know about the next-gen system? According to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, there's much more to learn.
In a juicy interview with Business Insider Japan (as translated by Gematsu), Ryan talks up the PS5 and what it's capable of without giving too much away. However, he also teases "unique elements" and "bigger differences" that Sony isn't ready to reveal yet. "There are still more unique elements for PlayStation 5 to come that separate it from previous consoles. The ‘bigger differences’ have yet to be announced," says Ryan.
It's an intriguing quote that's certainly got us wondering what the company has up its sleeve. What more would you like to see from the PS5? Take a guess at what Jim's talking about in the comments section below.

As unlikely as it may be, I am really beginning to think that backward compatibility with multiple PS generations (not just PS4) is one of the yet-to-be-announced features. I hope I'm right, but if not, it'll be awesome to have a shiny new PlayStation to carry on the legacy of this great gaming powerhouse.
ps1-ps4 BC? that's what I think should be a bigger feature
I hope the backward compatibility to be one of those features, it would be awesome for the PS5 to be able to play PSP and PS Vita games as well since Sony is no longer on the handheld market.
They also need to expand PS Now to mobiles and support 4K 60fps streaming.
I would like to see more single player games that gave a feeling of community like Death Stranding. Dead Nation did a excellent job with leader boards. Knack with shared rewards. Diablo with Nemesis mini boss.
I’m getting a total PS1–PS4 backward compatibility vibe here. It would be a megaton announcement, with many digital PS3/PS1 games, PS3 discs still there, and maybe a little work expanding the PS2 digital library, especially in the dryer days of the consoles opening. I’ve felt like it’s unlikely before, but I’m starting to feel it now.
Obviously there is a screen on the bottom, and you can tear the prongs off the DualShock and attach them to each side of the giant V and use it as a handheld.
Interesting, what could he be alluding to?
Improved share functionality, each user gets their own feed / wall showing recent activity where friends can view full videos you've shared. You can even react with the latest Brexit / Trump memes. Huzzah!
Home 2.0 That crazy experiment from the ps3 days will return and finally be out of beta. Create your own avatar and buy expensive virtual clothing, showing friends how easily you are tricked out of your hard earned cash.
PSone classics are back again with new trophy support! Feel the power of the retro pling.
Accessorise! Attachments are all the rage, connect an official Playstation cheese grater to your controller, and get the limited edition spaghetti bog trophy pling pling.
New melted next gen Playstation, guaranteed. With new incredible boosts in computing power comes unbearable heat! Despite super fans that sound like Concord taking off, your console will inevitably melt faster than that ssd can reload the first boss fight of Bloodborne 2.
New playstation hotline to call in about your freshly melted console, demanding a
replacement! Get a limited edition trophy for each console that overheats and melts!
I think some need to get their expectations in check if they think backwards compatibility across all ps generations is a given.
I'm kinda glad Sony is holding things back, they might have something new to announce when they reveal the console.
ps1-ps4 compatibility would be nice but I'd probably never use it, maybe I'd stick in ridge racer revolution for the memories before I realise how bad it looks and plays lol
I'd like to see a new socal user interface like ps home (anyone who remembers) so you boot up ps5 and you are there. you wanna watch some of your video captures? head over to the cinema, wanna check out your screenshots? go over to the literal gallery and so forth, the ideas for things to do would be endless. this would work with psvr too.... I'm probably on my own with this wish haha!
If it's something big, then I hope it gets announced before it's leaked everywhere.
I know there is the increasing feeling that SOny don't "need" E3 as much anymore, but even so - if they saved big console reveals and launch title footage for E3 they would Wipe. The. Floor. I think E3 would be a good way to go.
@dbunny if the PS Home servers were still going it would still be incredibly busy, day in day out. One of the big gaming tragedies of the last decade.
PS2 style memory cards PS2 style memory cards PS2 style memory cards
Hopefully new info will be coming in the next few weeks, i just want to know release date and games. Ps5 will probably be day one for me, lets hope that ps4 games are all backward compatability, as honestly i dont think the graphics jump from 4 to 5 will be that big, think it will be more powerfull in background but will still be amazing cant wait to know when ill be able to get my hands on one
@dbunny No bud,I'm with you on the social side of things."What's New" should've had live feeds from PlayStation YouTube and twitter accounts. Also anything directly to do with PlayStation that's trending at the time.Hopefully Sony implement this on the PS5?
I am gonna guess we could get:
it's going to have a bread slot so that its 9 teraflops of heat can make toast while you game. cuts down on wasted time making breakfast separately.
@SnowTiesAreCool yeah l agree, with the power of ps5 with 'near instant' load times out could be a really great fit for this next gen. gaming is so much more social these days, even if you don't play online. when home came out on ps3 online console stuff was just getting started, it's well established now
@Jurgens-Red-Army yes l hope so too either way though I'm so hugely excited to see the full ps5 reveal.... and I'm 43 lmao
Of course because they haven't announced the best feature i.e FULL Disc PS1/2/3&4 B/C (Yep, I am dreaming again) If SONY want to win day 1 then that would do it. It won't happen tho. All the internet talk about B/C is just to make people disappointed when SONY show the PS5. Oh well.
I’d love if in some classic banter the next feature they announced was “stability improvements”. I’m sure a lot wouldn’t see the funny side though.
@dbunny Hey I'm 49 yesterday and was like a little girl waiting for my new ps4 pro to arrive.I'm with you all on the PS5 reveal though.I'm one step away of doing a Cartman in South Park.
@Jurgens-Red-Army lol me too with the ps4pro, l don't normally buy consoles on launch day but l picked the pro up on day one to replace the original ps4 and I'm gonna go for ps5 on launch day too, I've already piled some money into an account ready and waiting!
Makes my dinner and can read my mind
I'm going to bet on voice recognition. You can say "load Horizon Zero Dawn 2" or whatever, the microphone in the dualshock picks it up and away you go.
And then you realise you have to get up to put the disc in
That's very intriguing but I think features already aluded to like a microphone or camera on the DS5 and an assistant are part of it.
@Gremio108
I think there's already voice command on ps4.
it would be nice if they could confirm silent cooling. because the fan noise have been the worst part of the ps4.
@TheBuzz The Pro doesn't seem to have that issue, at least not mine. My original didn''t have any problem for the first two years, but then it started acting like a 747 over time.
@Shirayuki Not sure if it's possible, but if they found a way to make it compatible with PS3, PS2 and PSOne, I'd be 100% on board(not that I'm not already). I've enjoyed PS1 and PS2 days. It would make things a lot more convenient.
I think it will be backward Compatible with every game system from every company ever made in the last 40 years. Lol. It’s a fun, frustrating wait!
@JJ2 You learn something every day. I've probably already learned that once before, and forgotten it.
