We stayed up until 1:30am last night to watch Sony's Jim Ryan reveal the official PlayStation 5 logo so that you didn't have to, but that didn't stop millions of people across the globe from sharing the news across social media. In fact, Sony's simple Instagram post has more than double the likes of Microsoft's Xbox Series X announcement and the Japanese giant didn't even have a console to show.
At the time of writing, the official PlayStation Instagram account can boast of a whopping 4.2 million likes on its PS5 logo reveal while the Xbox Series X announcement trailer debuted at The Game Awards 2019 is sitting at 1.8 million views. A separate post made on the same day detailing the name and the box itself currently has just under 990,000 likes a month later. It is worth noting that PlayStation also has more than double the amount of followers Xbox does on Instagram, but this is clearly proof that the Sony fanbase is eager for further information.
If PlayStation can demand this much attention when it simply reveals a logo, imagine the scenes when it chooses to unveil the console itself. That PlayStation Meeting can't come soon enough, can it? Were you one of those liking Sony's post last night? Like every comment below.

Interesting stat, but we won't know how next gen might go till the reveal occurs.
Drip feeding us tidbits is the winning strategy. Sony just knows we can't get enough of speculating about PS5.
Oh dear. A logo that’s literally exactly what fans have been mocking up for years generating more likes than an actual console reveal.
Over twice as many sold over twice as many likes...makes sense lol
Thats why sony is the g.o.a.t.been with PlayStation since day 1.in 1995 in nyc.the PlayStation brand is legendary.that logo is amazing.another victory over x box.the games will look wonderful.i expect a February PlayStation meeting.and remedy sony buys them along with bluepoint games.and a 12 teraflops for ps5.word up son
The very fact that Sony can get people talking about a logo is quite telling.
Just like the actual PS4 generated twice as much interest as the actual XB1. Seems like in both cases it's the same percentage of the respective install bases that have shown interest. Side note, but the weird thing is that I was in America, the people there thought the Xbox was doing way better than the PS4 and that the UK was some odd anomaly for preferring Sony's console. Crazy Americans.
Anything counts. We're going to need these numbers for the upcoming console war after all. Long live the Information Age!
Just give us the box!!
Are what my friends are saying and getting a little kissed off.
I just love that they only showed the logo xD
🙄🙄 "eyes rolling as hard as possible"
Lol this is gold
Also could be that a lot of xbox owners aren't old enough to have social media accounts.
PlayStation as a brand is too strong worldwide. Xbox is still more anglocentric.
Thats fair enough 😀
....................
It may have gotten double the attention but I bet it would of also had double the disappointment since they didn’t unveil the console itself. At least with the Xbox Series X we got to see the console and a vague release date.
Also the PS5 WILL sell a lot more than the XSX, probably even double. It’s just too predictable with the brand being so big worldwide and we saw how the PS4 is a massive sales success over the Xbox One. It shouldn’t come as a surprise either as some say on here, “In other news, water is wet”.
Microsoft are "winning" already in one area and that's engaging the community something that Sony seem reluctant about doing and it's been like that for quite awhile now
Yeah. The LOGO is most important. I couldn’t careless and it’s sad so many care. The market leader has more interest. That makes sense. The intelligence gamers will be waiting and seeing how it all plays out... until it’s very close to release we won’t have enough info.
I’m day on ps5 right now but could still end up with Xbox under my TV. Like usual and every generation for over 20 years I’ll end up with all the offerings before the generation is done. Who gets my money first is the only question....
@teknium_ Engaging in what way?
@teknium_ how are MS winning by engaging the community?
Never had a Xbox and will never will just got rid of Windows.
@Flaming_Kaiser lol beat me to it!
@Flaming_Kaiser by being a lot more forward when it comes to information,sony are quiet at the moment and are playing it very close to their chests
@teknium_ Maybe their was no news. Maybe they were working on stuff im happy they domt deop indo too early anymore.
@teknium_ Well why would they share information through the comment section? & not have a separate reveal event?
@Cutmastavictory It's still the most liked picture
@necondaa comments section?
@teknium_ You're saying that XB is winning because they're being more forward about information when Sony is keeping quiet. XB revealed it at the game awards & some info was confirmed through some questions on Instagram, XB isn't winning. Hell they showed the logo & it got 4 million links in under 18 hours
Please note I used "" around the word winning,it wasn't meant to be used in a serious way as I find console wars and blind fanboyism pathetic,MS have been more forward with their community for a while now and not just regarding the console reveal and stuff...Sony are showing signs of their arrogant side at the moment I feel
@Dodoo 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Im just happy that we get 4K Blurays more on the disc. 😃
@Matroska Some of us are crazy, but hardly all. I imagine you ran into the uninformed ones that probably don't keep up with news.
@teknium_ So? It's because Sony prefers to keep things hush hush until they're ready. I don't see how that makes MS a winner there. Lol. Being more open isn't really much of a perk.
@teknium_ They're being arrogant by holding information for a reveal? Uhm...no, that's not arrogance I'm afraid my friend. That's strategy. Sounds like you got things mixed up.
@necondaa Some tend to reach for something that's not even there. I see it as smart to keep things under wraps for a big reveal. Throwing information away before a reveal takes away from the excitement. I don't agree with everything Sony does, but they certainly are smart to wait until the right time to spill the beans.
@InsertUsername I agree, I'm honestly really excited for the PS5 & I'm be pre ordering
@necondaa I've always waited a year before buying a new console in a new generation, but this will be my first time breaking that tradition. I like what I hear and read about the PS5.
@InsertUsername I'll be watching for those pre order pages
November can't come soon enough...
@TheInfantFinite yea. Xbox1 was my biggest xbox dissapointment. Loved OG and 360.
