The Outer Worlds appears to have done very well for itself, if publisher Take-Two's most recent statements are to be taken at face value. During the company's latest financial call, the role-playing game was described as a "critical and commercial success".
Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said that Obsidian's sci-fi title is "exceeding our expectations" in terms of sales, helped on by "outstanding" reviews. While the publisher didn't share any specific figures, it's clear that The Outer Worlds has been a hit. Not bad for a single-player RPG with no live elements, eh?

just picked up a copy with Death Stranding today👍 I wonder if this would have been the game for them to become stable? guess we will never know now.
I like it enough that I will probably have to buy the next X-BOX at some point. Ugh.
PS5 comes first obviously...
I played it for a good bit on gamepass but I only have gamepass itself until the end of the month. I'll most likely leave it and try get it cheaper on ps4 down the line.
It's a great game. I'm very happy it's doing well financially.
Great game and one of my favourites this year, a bit of a shame it'll likely be confined to the Xbox in the future as it seems to have amassed a following elsewhere
On my second playthrough on Supernova. Just sneaking and talking my way to the end, lol. Good game, nice roleplay.
guess the inevitable sequel with be XBOX exclusive then unless Take-Two own the rights
does Take-Two own the rights or Obsidian?
Well played, Obsidian. Great game.
@PunkRx_Lockly Same. I'm avoiding as much fights as possible because I don't wanna lose any of my fabulous companions permanently.
@FullbringIchigo I think Obisidian (Microsoft) holds the rights to the IP.
According to Private Division's Wikipedia page:
"The label aids in the development process and works with the developer to create project timelines and milestones, and will help the publish and distribute the games when completed, but does not seek to own the intellectual property of the developers."
Got both this and Death Stranding this week, its a great game and its nice playing a real "Fallout" game again.
Any sequel may well be a multi-platform release. Just because Obsidian are a Microsoft company, that doesn't mean that Microsoft would necessarily limit a sequel to just their Platform and have said in the past that they have no issue with releasing games on multiple platforms outside of the MS family. They said that if it makes sense, then releasing on other platforms is something they would happily do.
The fact that this IP has released on Playstation may make that one of those games that makes sense for MS to release on other platforms - much like they continue to support Minecraft and, if a sequel ever released, would likely release on Sony and Nintendo platforms too.
Of course games like Halo, Gears, Forza etc are Microsoft games and doesn't make sense to release those on Playstation. If MS/Obsidian though do make a new IP, albeit very similar too but not the same 'IP', then it would make sense for MS to look at using that to attract players/fans of the Outer Worlds and/or Obsidian games to buy a Microsoft device to play it on.
InXiles Wastelands 3 is still coming to Playstation and I would be surprised if any subsequent games didn't release on PS too despite MS's acquisition of this studio. It would surprise me if Hellblade 2, if Ninja Theory do make a sequel, would not be releasing on other platforms. These games are all the type of game that it makes sense to release on other platforms - not that 'sense' always prevails BUT of all games that MS studios could release on other platforms, those franchises that already have a history on other platforms make the most sense to continue to release.
That's assuming these studio's wish to continue making sequels or would rather make something new, something more ambitious with the support and budget they now have access to. I can see games like the Outer Worlds and Hellblade being the only release in those IP's - even if the devs use those as a major influence on something new. The Outer Worlds has been described as the best 'Fallout' game in years so Obsidian could make another 'new' IP in a similar style instead...
In any case, its far too soon to think about what may or may not happen and until we have actual facts - ie the Outer Limits 2 revealed for MS Only (or multi-platform) then all we can do is wait and see....
It's my game of the year. I haven't been this excited for a space game since Prey. It never fails to make me laugh. 😁
OMG quality sells.
@ApostateMage Yes... And besides that I just don't like killing people if I don't have to. Those poor, poor marauders, lol.
Having fun with this game too. Glad to hear it's done well.
I got it on gamepass pc, gears 5 and now this, gamepass is pretty good I think
