Geoff Keighley

Without a single hardware manufacturer announcing plans for a press conference at this year's Gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany, everybody's favourite Geoff Keighley decided to step in and put on his own show. Dubbed Gamescom Opening Night Live, the inaugural conference was so successful that the man himself has just taken to Twitter to announce "a new, multi-year partnership" for the convention.

Best known recently for planning and hosting The Game Awards, the Hideo Kojima hype man will return in August 2020 to put on another flashy show. We have to assume that next year's event will be better than what Keighley cobbled together a few months back, which can only be described as a tribute to his very best friend.

Yes, a large portion of the show was taken up by a tribute to Death Stranding, but announcements for the likes of Disintegration, Little Nightmares II, and the sudden return of Erica gave us something else to think about. Although, it was all completely overshadowed by PlayStation's separate announcement of the Insomniac Games acquisition.

With the PlayStation 5 planned to launch just a few months after Gamescom Opening Night Live 2020, we have to assume that next year's show will be a little better thanks to some next-gen announcements. Will you be tuning in once again to catch Keighley's reveals? Start up the livestream in the comments below.
