Halloween is a holiday flush with abandoned areas, so perhaps it’s not all that strange that BioWare has opted to celebrate the season. The oft-forgotten ANTHEM has launched a new event to pull players back in; named the Season of Skulls, the looter-shooter’s latest content drop finds the folk of Bastion “rising up against the darkness with determination and defiance”.
It all boils down to a bunch of new combat arenas, which will function similarly to the title’s previous event, Cataclysm. You’ll earn Crystals for your efforts, which can be exchanged for War Chests and other items. You’ll also be able to complete daily and seasonal challenges for bonus cosmetic items. Of course, the true shocker here is that the game continues to be updated at all.

Had genuinely forgotten Anthem exists. I'm not even being mean, I'm absolutely serious.
@ShogunRok It 🅸🆂 in top 10 🅱🅴🆂🆃 selling games of 2019
I've still got my copy of the game and haven't played it. Got it for £15 (tho it's now under a tenner) and just haven't been driven to play it. Was hoping the improvements would come in but nope. Still may look if I can put skulls on the javalin but that's probably only on the store
@Ridwaano well i guess we all now know to not buy games just because they sell good.
@Danloaded the skull cosmetics can be bought with in-game currency only or some through challenges.
You should really give the game a shot. You’ll be positively surprised as many were before.
@topic
With these updates BioWare seems to be mostly working on fundamental improvements we players wanted. They increased legendary loot drop rate by 250%. Mass salvage is now finally implemented, which was requested for a long time but bug fixes took priority.
It will still take a while until they can get back to bigger content updates I guess.
I still enjoy the game. I am just not letting myself burn out. The game does not have enough content to invest 1000 hours into it and it is wiser to play other games while waiting for anthem updates. You will enjoy anthem much more that way.
@tatsumi I'm willing to give it a try but backlog is my curse lol
Wow, I'm surprised it's not just dead yet with how broken the loot systems and such is. I guess they want to try and save a tiny bit of face.
@Danloaded I enjoyed my play through of it. There isn’t enough to draw me to keep going back to it, and there’s certainly games I’d rather focus on, but I think it’s worth a play through. I bought it day one and feel I got my money’s worth, so at the price you bought it for I believe you will too.
@ellsworth004
Point is there is bunch of people who bought it ツ so it 🅸🆂 not dead by far 🆁🅸🅶🅷🆃?
@Ridwaano people still have to be playing it
I tried it with EA access and it was just little pockets of fun in an ocean of mediocrity and loading screens. Probably the worst I've played in that genre
@carlos82 That's probably the most succinct review of Anthem I've ever read.
@Ridwaano It is, shows you the power of marketing at least!
Still playing, progressing and genuinely enjoying this game and its updates. It still definitely feels like early days for the title, and that's because it is. Hasn't even been out a year yet, and we all know it launched at least a year too early. For now I will continue to support Bioware and their product which I thoroughly enjoy, and know that great things like on the horizon for Anthem. Dont get me wrong, this is by no means the only title I play, just a regular one that I enjoy and am always excited when an update comes out, but I feel like there is this idea and image around loot shooters, and I use that term loosely, to be the be all end all of what games you'll sink time into. It was borderlands, then destiny, then the division, then destiny 2, then anthem, then the division 2
, then borderlands 3, borderlands 2 is in there somewhere but you get my point. Loot shooters are rated and judged by whether or not you can sink 2-8 hours into them every day for an indeterminate amount of days for all of eternity, which is ridiculous.
@soracloud28 They had 6 years.
@carlos82
True ¯(ツ)/¯ it should have been free to play model will have done better for sure
@Flaming_Kaiser and?
It’s a shame how this game turned out.
the 'Evolve' of 2019
@soracloud28 If you cant produce a full decent game in 6 years why do you even exist. But i heard it took 5 years of doing nothing amd pushing out a game in a year because EA thought it was time. Totally agree with EA on this one.
@Flaming_Kaiser yeah I read the 11k word Kotaku article about it the day Jason Schreier put it out. It took Square Enix 10 years to put out Final Fantasy XV and I think it was a very very good game. Well worth the wait in my eyes. I dont fault anyone for the game being released early, it definitely took a misstep out of the gates but I'm sure it's going to find its footing.
@soracloud28 I wouldn’t bet on it to “find it’s footing” I wouldn’t even be surprised if it was announced in a year or two that it’s servers were shutting down due to the lack of player activity, which in turn would make the game completely unplayable and may as well be delisted. I honestly think BioWare should cut it’s losses and focus on a new game like DA for the next generation of consoles because in ANTHEM it seems they are just flogging a dead horse.
@soracloud28 And it was a good game witj more content and a story without it being a bugfest. What have they done in 6 years its insane.
@carlos82 that's exactly what it was and still is. It's got moments but with destiny 2 going free to play anthem will die pretty much soon. And to think I spent 55 pre order on it. Never again will ea or bioware do this to me.
