For the second time, Sony dropped a PlayStation 5 info bomb out of nowhere earlier this week. The company confirmed that the console will indeed be called the PlayStation 5, and that it'll release in late 2020. It even detailed the machine's next-gen controller, and discussed its user interface. If you somehow missed the news, be sure to check out our recap through here.
Of course, we still don't know what the PS5 actually looks like -- Sony says it'll be fully revealed at some point next year -- but we now have a better understanding of what the system is capable of. As such, we're here to ask for your thoughts on the next-gen console. Are you excited for the PS5? What newly revealed features are you most looking forward to? Vote in our polls, and then drop your own info bomb in the comments section below.

The only detail that mattered to me was that they officially named it.
The "launch date" is less of a detail, more of a "plan", and we all know plans can change.
What was the PS4 at launch? €399? I reckon it's not going to be much more than that. Maybe €450 at most.
I'm really looking forward to getting mine. But sadly I may have to wait till the following April. As my daughter will be starting university so I'll be broke for 4 years. But every April I'll get my bonus so can quickly spend some of it before my wife notices. I know I need to man up but hey happy wife happy life and all that. It will be the first ps console I've not got day one except the psp which I didn't bother with. Here's hoping things go better than I forsee.
i m sure all that details were about initial knowledge that everyone expected, but new hardware innovations is about to come on 2020 "reveal conference"...
although, new controller features and new UI were surprising
Who voted for over 600$ for ps5.i mean come on dog.its not happening.word up son
day one for me really looking forward to it.
There is nothing thats been revealed that has made me say wow. Lots of features that would have been expected in a new console are there. Until the actual specs are revelaved and see how well the SSD performs along with download times I will reserve judgement.
Yeah I'm excited for ps5, the cpu/ssd storage/controller upgrade seems good, it has BC with at least ps4, sony 1st party games will get a sequel on ps5, the only thing I'm worried about is the price, I hope it's no more than $500
The PS5 was always going to be a day one purchase for me. Every bit of news just cements that decision. Also, that controller sounds so sick.
The ps5 will be a beast.
@playstation1995 its no way the ps5 will be over 500$ if so the ps5 will be doa on release.
Short answer. Yes. Long answer. Ooohhhh yeeeeaaa
Ps4= 400
Ps5=500?
Day one for sure. Can't wait to hear more!
Between the "leaks" about the system pointing to some really capable tech and Sony's talk about launching with a premium niche product, I'm expecting $599 minimum.
As for me, I'll be waiting till at last mid-gen, most likely, as I have a ton of games across all my different platforms to play. By the time I get to it, I should be fully caught up with my PS4/Wii/Wii U/PS2/3DS backlogs (and will have punctured a massive hole in my Steam backlog).
the ps5 has me rather exited indeed.
i think not higher than 500 euro's for the system itself.
ofcourse i'm most exited for the possible launch games. maybe even a bundle.
@swagbag713. I agree i still got a lot of games to play.too much.word up son
@Jay767 500 $ is a possibility.word up son
The deciding factor to me will be what new games will launch with it from Sony that will make me want to buy it.
I’m most excited about eliminating (or dramatically reducing) load times. Spending way too much time staring at load screens. Developers are clearly ready to move on to a more powerful system, and so am I!
I'm most happy with the rumored hardware specs (cpu, gpu, sdd, etc), and specifically the ray tracing acceleration. Can't wait for Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Sony Santa Monica, and other genius studios to deliver their magic...
Backward compatible?
@Ichiyama it will be yes. with the ps4 atleast.
The only question left for me is how much it will cost. With all these new features and the reported power of the system, along with the SSD and other things, I would imagine Sony will definitely be selling the PS5 at a loss. The question is just by how much.
It seems hard to fathom this beast being less than $499.
I should definitely get a PS5, but not at launch. I'm going to wait a while before getting one, because launch models always have issues that fixed with newer models. Not to mention there will be more choices of accessories to choose from.
Can't wait for the PS5
Faster freaking load times. I'm so ready... Day One!
@Ichiyama of course, backwards compatibility is one of the key features.
Hopefully developers next gen actually make use of the tools inside the Dualshock 5 this time. The Dualshock 4 is a sad thing. Gyro aim should be a standard option next gen.
For me games sell consoles. Until there are enough games I’m interested in, I really don’t see a reason to get excited.
Curious to see if they follow the Switch/BOTW launch combo. PS4 and XB1 had rubbish launch line ups, and for most of the first year.
One thing at a time. I cant wait for the reveal
None of the details and specs have interested me in the slightest (wasn't sure what to vote for) , it's a new PlayStation and I will of course buy it, thats just it basically.
Never seen the point in buying day 1 console release. There are hardly any games and waiting a year usually gets it up to £100 cheaper, and cheaper games. Win/Win
@Ear_wiG luckily I'm from the 8bit era so loading times complaints seem funny to me!
I plan on getting one day one. I like the new features on the controller but really like the ability to install specific parts of a game. Help save space.
Regarding price, I think it'll be either $449 or $499.
I think itd be awesome if we are able to customise our menu UI icons/sounds/background theme all separately.
And hope its all more customizable without having to rely on cheesy poorly made store themes
The only thing I want is at least 3 "good" games, not including any ports. A new Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo and a new IP would be awesome. It's how the Switch has become so successful, because it had a guaranteed must play since day 1(even though it was also on the Wii U).
@Deadlyblack I wouldn't get too excited, they promised that with the PS4 before launch, and to my knowledge only Uncharted 4, The last of Us and Killzone use it.
Likely to get one eventually, but not on Day 1. I like to wait until the price comes down and the console has a much larger library of games. All the cool features of the PS5 has me concerned about the price.
New games is the most important factor for me. A few killer games that I'm super eager to play but aren't available on my current devices would go a long way to help convince me to pick up the console.
Backwards compatibility is the difference between buying at launch and waiting 12 -18 months for me. Unless sony drops a bad ass launch title!! Needs more than knack 3 for day one
People are forgetting why we really buy a console, it's the GAMES! The launch titles and upcoming first year titles are the most important. I plan to put in my PS5 preorder day one. But I need to be wowed with a few games. At least one at launch and more in titles coming soon after.
@YozenFroghurt
Thanks for the support. My wife won't let that happen, and to be fair I want her to have a stress free time she's going to be doing an economics and French degree for 4 years so that's pretty tough. It's only going to get worse my other daughter is on track to get grades to do her doctors degree in a couple of years and that's 6 or 7 years. 2 daughters 11 years of uni fees not sure whether to be proud or cry 😂.
Day one... take my money!
How quickly I'd want to put my hands on one, depends on game quality and a reduction of games-as-services approach
3 launch PS4's in my family day one. As of today only issue was the thumb caps on my controller. I could have got a warranty replacement. I just bought some thumb covers so I would not have be without a controller waiting for the return replacement.
Sony did not lower the Price of the PS4 for years. I think it even may have only lowered with the Slim model.
I purchased one to two games every month the first year I had no lack of games to play. on top of that the PS+ games filled in. Loved Resogun a launch PS+ free title.
Installing different part of games is not new, stop acting like it is x)
I think Sony should if possible mantain the price at 399€...but if it's really that powerful it won't happen
1. Need more info. The most vital (no pun intended) concern of mine still hasn't been addressed - including the worry that the odds are slim (no pun intended) as it is, and Sony's recent proud touting of smartphone RP compatibility does little to alleviate that worry. I mean, DualShock support and the likelihood of it spreading to the new controller is something (most commendably in the way of having physical triggers), but unless the latter also comes with a slider grip for nesting a phone (like some general Android gamepads do), we'll be talking tabletop mode at best.
2. Nothing REALLY caught my eye, but if I had to choose, I suppose the selective download ability sounds nicest. Sony jumping on the haptic feedback bandwagon is also a plus - I didn't use to care much for vibration, but now I can barely imagine how I would deal with Skyrim locks through anything but a Joy-con.
3. PS3 history suggests Sony won't want a $600 tag again, and they're not averse to selling consoles at a loss. But still, all this fluff like ray tracing and relatively more assessable but costly gameplay benefits like SSDs doesn't sound like it would easily hit anything below $500. Better to be pleasantly surprised afterwards.
@AFCC It's new for PlayStation
@Neolit What about the yellow light of death and discs randomly being ejected?
Can we get full K&M support this time around please?
I'll be excited when they actually show it off, all this tech talk & Mark Cerny coffee dates do nothing for me.
That being said, I will be there day one picking up the console.
For me the most important feat is backwards compatibility by far!
Only news for me is a firm date on when I need to have the money in my checking account.
I was sold at RayTacing and BC.
I will wait and see what's what. 4 months after launch will be enough time to see how the new gen is working. I could even go X Box as i play multiplats and have only a small digital library on PS4. No problem as i will keep my 2 PS4's.
@Neolit, My 120GB PS3 slim model cech2001A, never repaired, used a gazillion hours, and still works very well. I purchased it in 2009. Also it does not look cheap compared to a fat PS3. I believe it is the first model as cech20XX is first on the list before cech21XX.
My 80GB fat PS3 with emulation lasted 10 months. After repair it soon began to sound like my vacum cleaner, the hdd was near full, and i needed a new controller. So i purchased the slim and used my old fat for storage and as a backup that i never needed.
So, why did you sell your original PS3, the 60GB with a PS2 inside it?
I must admit, I'd be happy for the PS4 to have a few more years of life, but provided I can afford it, I'll be upgrading day one. The SSD does concern me though. It sounds amazing, but storage wise, anything less than 1TB would be too small and anything more would probably be too costly. I would love to dream that a 2TB will be inside, but I find it very unlikely. The issue could be mitigated somewhat if there is a way to use an external hard drive, but I don't see how this would be possible as the read and write speeds would not be fast enough via USB.
Even if you only kept the single player portion of the game for example, this could still easily be 75GB for example per game, and this would still only be 13 games on a terabyte. The one thing we all have to bank on however is that Sony are masters at balancing cost vs. the best possible parts. It will be fascinating to see the balance in the final reveal.
I'm mostly indifferent so far. Backwards compatability is great, and I'd really like for the controller to have a better battery life than the Dualshock 4, but exclusives are what will sell me on a console. A new Gravity Rush or Ape Escape are the games I'm hoping for the most.
How could even 1% of people who come here have "zero interest" in PS5?!
Im not getting one. I love my games now and I have zillions to still play. I don;t care enough to get a ps5 when I dont need it. Im through being cool. I never mothball old systems or think they are outdated. I play and love them all. So I have tons to play for forever. Oh and I'm not into online or AAA titles. I love indies a lot more so whats the point here? This is just the plug in the whales spout that mercifully will end my rampant spending. I can get on with the business of playing what I got and that sounds like my best move.
I don't think we even need a PS5, we just need good content. I mean, how far do video games need to "advance"?
@Powerpellet
Agreed. My backlog is massive and ps4 games are gonna be dirt cheap for years to come. Ill get my ps5 when the slim edition comes out
Day one for me! Not only for the games but also for the 4K Blu-Ray disc drive. I've been holding off on buying a dedicated 4K Blu-Ray player to complement my 4k tv for over 2 years now, since i hoped the PS5 would contain one. Now that it's been confirmed i need to get the PS5 ASAP. Already bought a small collection of 4K UHD movies on disc, but no way to watch them at the moment, lol!
Will be getting one but most likely not on day one. I was more interested in the details annouced earlier this year. I think some are underestimating how much a of a game changer having an are will have. I will be very surprised if this is available at under 499 quid.
100% getting one and love what i am hearing. BUT it won't be day one. I've never bought a console at launch to enable teething issues to be resolved with launch units.
But also with a second child on the way in January, i just wont be able to afford one right away. With a huge back log to work through, my PS4 will keep me busy a while yet
Given the ps3's u.s. $600 price turned into aussie $1000, will have to wait & see regarding ps5 & its pricing.
Want to see the ps4 b/c details nailed down about how it works. In particular if we can plug in our current external HDD etc., & start playing. Obv., we don't know enough yet about ps5 storage expansion on that score.
On the plus side, 4k drive, ssd & custom update/installs & controller are all welcome. 👍
With competition in CPU and GPU heating up, Sony should be able to cut out a good deal with AMD. Ram price has also fallen quite a bit, $500 is possible but depending on how the SSD is being implemented. I suspect that it will be a high speed NAND cache along with the usual HDD. This way, cost can be significantly reduced.
I'll definitely buy a PS5 as soon as I can but don't want the hassle of queuing and don't want delivery. So it's just matter of convenience for me. My PS4 is getting old and I hope it holds on until then at least.
@BarefootBowser
Just a hint, the main difference between PlayStation and Xbox is the games and has always been 😋 if you already have game pass then pc or xbox is just right for you 😌
@BarefootBowser
I don't know. It's very simple for me. Just like at the beginning of this gen, I know the type of games Sony make. Easy peasy Sonysy.
@BarefootBowser
Oh I do have an open mind. I know what I like though haha
So far, ps5 looks like the dream machine:
True next gen hardware with ssd etc, ps4 backward compatibility, (hopefully)a great controller, full 8k support and most important a great software to come!
I don't know what the price will be(imo 499-549), I don't care for my huge backlog, what I know for sure is a day one purchase for me!!
@BarefootBowser
Oh man. Keep it friendly please.
Just an example since you don't have the open mind of accepting my statement that I know what I like.:
I can't believe have to explain what I like now or Id be called fanboy or something?? haha
Ok got other things to do so happy gaming man.
@BarefootBowser As far as I recall,you can access your external HDD stuff if you'd setup your account on an alternate ps4,(just have to remain logged in to psn if not your primary-activated one). Obviously physical discs would likely install internally-but in theory external HDD ps4 games should play like they do on current-gen. SSD tech in the ps5 may benefit ps4 load times as per the current tech demos,but its obviously is geared around ps5 games.
But much as the questions regarding ps5 specific expansion options, time will tell.
@Neolit I can't find any numbers, the best I could find is "it's a common problem" https://retroconsoles.fandom.com/wiki/Yellow_Light_of_Death
Though just because there are no numbers available, that does not mean that the issues don't occur. We know for a fact that these issues happen. I myself have had the issue of discs being ejected while playing on PS4, re-occuring despite following Sony's official guide and how to fix it.
its gonna be expensive on day one so you guys better start saving up the 600 for this one.
I want 1 But it sounds expensive but my money is ready anyway Well saying that i don't think I would buy a console for over £500 if it was that expensive. £450 would be the maximum for me. £400 would be perfect tho.
@BarefootBowser
Theres no contradiction I think you were trying to go into console war mode and that's not my thing. Its VERY well known what type of games you can find on playstation. Hint that's not Halo. Also another hint. My avatar pic.
Do you need more hints haha
Anyway if I was interested in xbox I'd go PC so it's very easy indeed. I dont understand your questioning haha
PS5 Pro day one
Most PS4 owners that buy a PS5 will do so based on past experience. The same holds true for XBox current owners. Telling a happy PS4 or Xbox owner they need to think about another brand will never go over well. Many are Fans with out being blind or open to new things.
@Netret0120
Yeah I'll get one at half price books for cheap one day like I did my ps4. My massive game sale buying rampage is ongoing for now. I gotta quit after this system and start playing em.
@BarefootBowser
Haha ok man.
I'm not going to play Days Gone 2 or God of War 2 on xbox am I? If knowing it means not being open minded then that's weird.
I have many friends who like xbox and I never ever question them or them me for our liking. That's what open minded means.
That's not contradictory to knowing what you like or what you want.
I consider being open minded about people and what they like. Being 'open minded' about products sounds a bit silly to me, no offense intended.
Like I know apple is not for me. I'm not going to feel bad because I dont give it a chance haha
I'm very excited for it. Games already look terrific with my PS4 Pro and 4K TV setup but... better graphics and new games are always exciting!
poor launch line-up and i'll probably wait. most of the multiplatform stuff will be on PS4 anyway. i still think that when the UK price is converted to $, it'll be way more than $500.
@AdamNovice no it is not. I did it last month with some Call of Duty I think on PS4.
1A: I will be purposely waiting 3-4+ years after the PS5 launches before I own it, just like with my PS4.
2A: Holiday 2020 Release Date.
3A: I'm hoping between $400-$500, but won't be surprised if it's closer to $500-$600 instead.
