It's an online-focused video game launching in 2019, so of course Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was going to announce its all-new Battle Pass sooner or later. With both a free and premium stream of cosmetic content available, it is said to form the basis of the in-game economy and replace loot boxes entirely.
Announced on the game's official blog, each and every Battle Pass will be tied to the introduction of new seasons throughout the title's lifespan. You'll be able to unlock and equip cosmetic content, while "All functional content that has an impact on game balance, such as base weapons and attachments, can be unlocked simply by playing the game."
The game's first Battle Pass won't be available at launch, with Infinity Ward opting to wait for players to unlock what's already included in the base game first. This news comes just a couple of days after the studio's art director Joel Emslie said that the team "are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system." It appears to be a decision that moves the game away from the possibility of receiving the same criticism that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 got after it added loot boxes to the game a month or so after launch.
Have you enjoyed Battle Passes in other Games as a Service? Will you level up this one to rank 100? Don your soldier in a fancy outfit in the comments below.

It's disappointing losing levelling in games and seeing it replaced with this. Although this model is preferable to Lootboxes by far.
Another point. Paying for a base game which is lacking in customisation, content and levelling is surely a poor value proposition compared to games of yesteryear. Surely we are on the cusp of a mass free to start influx as I won't ever pay for these barebones base games
I've bought a few rocket League passes but stopped and the same for apex legends, I'm sure I bought the very first. Battlefield V's model was much better and more rewarding I thought. While still cosmetic to an extent, it was FREE!!
Odds are I'll be getting cod. Loved the alpha and beta so I'll more than likely pick it up. Its definitely a return to form for the franchise.

I kinda get what your saying, but for me as someone who never spends an extra penny on any game I'm going to enjoy the free maps and content updates, the amount of modes lauching, with campaign, standard multiplayer, 2v2 which have 7 separate maps at launch. The 50v50 ground war that has 3 separate maps at launch, Special ops mode that's looking really good plus all future maps guns and perks coming in free updates I'm happy to try the new format. I think I'll be getting a complete game. I've never thought of this game lacking content. I think some of the new ideas are great. Also this time each gun, camo and ranking can be levelled up in any mode which will give me more chance of convincing friends to try other modes.
Thats great but for gods sake put EVERY map INCLUDING dlc maps into rotation equally. Actually forget "rotation" all together. Just make it 100% random which map u play.
Only pass I buy regularly is rocket leagues. I don't mind supporting psyonix. Tried fortnites but I was never good at that so never got much back. This I may have a look at but only if the rewards are good and if the pass is reasonably priced
Looking forward to the game ending by getting sucked into a black hole before CoD:MW2 releases. 😉
@LemonHaze what is this reset you are refering to, i havent been keeping up with how the new cod game pass or whatever its called works.
@LemonHaze if true thats sounds pretty crappy.
You know I actually liked loot crates, I never paid for them but the challenges to acquire them added a little more gameplay, I dont like battle passes because it's more like a pure level grind.
