As promised, Kojima Productions has gone ham on Tokyo Game Show 2019. A couple of days ago, Hideo Kojima guided us through nearly an hour of Death Stranding gameplay, finally showing off what we'll be doing while we're out in the open world. However, that's not all -- the designer has just wrapped up a second showing of the game, and this one focuses on the Safe House.
Once protagonist Sam reaches one of these secure facilities, he's able to recharge in a private room. The demonstration, which you can watch above, shows what you can do while in this area. It seems part of it is winding down; after a tough mission, Sam can let loose with some silly emotes -- including pulling silly faces in the mirror and striking poses on the bed. Why not?
You'll also be able to have him take a shower, use the toilet, interact with the BB, and eat one of those weird grubs. What's more, you can customise his gear, loading out his backpack with different equipment and changing the colours of his clothing. There's a map where you can view your objectives and plan your next trip across the ruined United States.
It's a strange gameplay demo, but it at least shows that Death Stranding isn't taking itself too seriously. The game continues to look bizarrely fascinating, and we're ready to explore it for ourselves.

Man, this is strange. I love the tiny details though, I spend more time messing about with that stuff than actually playing games.
the more i see of this game the less i want it, the animation seems janky although the faces look fantastic, the gameplay actually looks dull although the story premise is interesting
but yeah i think i'm taking this OFF my watch list
Is it me or is this game very empty? I love the visuals but it seems very dead:p
@LemonHaze Beer?
i love this stuff
This is amazing. 👍
I'm not at all convinced Death Stranding will be fun to play, but I can't wait for it regardless. I jump at the chance to play bizarre stuff with multiple tiny details like this.
Am I the only one who doesn’t know WTF is going on in this game??...It’s almost as if he goes out of his way to make his games weird as hell...not saying it won’t be good...just lost at the premise I guess...
I'm not sure what to think of this game anymore, but it's Kojima, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Judging with pure video game standards, this is a whole lotta nothing. I don't know why someone would even be excited for this.
@PressR2 I have the same with a FIFA, NBA2K, NFL, COD, GTA, BF, Anthem. 😉
I'm disappointed. not just it's not revolutionary, there is no way I get away with gameplay. being in the huge empty map make me nuts. whats I think Kojima played us again, and this time he caused a deep wound. thus, I lost my trust and faith in him.
The main character looks like a drunk you could see at any bar.
@Sanquine Players can fill the rest of the empty space with constructions, structures and abandoned items such as ladders, ropes, bikes and much more that was not shown.
Even though its Hideo's game its surprising the menus look very much like MGSV's
Not relating to MGS V, but the more I see of this game the less interested I am in it.
@FullbringIchigo You have a lot of opinions dude.. The key here is to not watch anything until the game launches. I have not watched anything since the last trailer that dropped with the big ass monkey tiger wolf cat thing.
Just buy the game and be amazed. It is Kojima after all. Man does not disappoint.
@Sanquine Is the game empty or is it deep? Not quite sure what you are saying here
@Reaper210 doesn't disappoint?, did you play MGSV? yeah i know Konami interfered with that game but the thing is i think Sony might have given him too much freedom and some people no matter how good they are needs someone else there to tell them when enough is enough
it's alright having a vision but there is an old saying "you can give the horse some slack but never take your hands of the reins"
@stuzster Why not buy the game and figure out what it's suppose to be instead of reading it? Is it not the point of games movies or books? You are not going to fast forward to the end of a lion king to see Simba take over the kingdom... or read the final chapter of a book to figure out what is going on. Why read what the game is all about when you can find out yourself?
@Germs73 Don't try to figure it out now. Wait till launch, boot it up and play the s*** out of it to find that if you pee in one spot along with others you magically get a Gundam suite to chill in while killing big alien 100000 feet high with srands for fingers
Please mind the language! - Quintumply
@FullbringIchigo You could have a point there. I think freedom allows Kojima to do his best work. Konami really F### him over and he could not tell the story he really wanted to. It was very rushed at the end. I admit that, but this is his redemption title and I really think this will be a make or break. He should stop with the trailers, gameplay, and spoilers now though...
