Square Enix has dropped a brand new Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer, and boy is this game looking promising. The trailer features a number of new scenes, with Cloud and the gang continuing their adventure through Midgar.
It also gives us our first look at the Turks, who are looking better than ever. Oh, and that part with Don Corneo is still here in the Remake, although it's unclear whether you'll have to doll Cloud up in a pretty dress to get his attention.
How do you think Final Fantasy VII Remake is shaping up? Are you hyped for its March release next year? Unsheathe your buster sword in the comments section below.

Man this looks so SO GOOD.
Can not wait.
The Turks are looking particularly smooth here.
And OMG Don Corneo AND stupid mini-games are confirmed to be in.
GOTY 2020. Nothing is touching this for me. God, I'm so excited!
Looks amazing doesn’t it?
Loving “Frog”!
I don't know if I can get any more excited for this... I don't take days off work for games anymore but I do believe I will be making an exception for this.
Voice acting is awful, but thoroughly excited by everything else in this trailer.
@get2sammyb so is the cheesy writing
@get2sammyb Voice acting seems about right for the type of game it is I think. It's not The Last of Us, after all. Of course, you'll either be someone who can get into it, or not.
WHOOOOOP GET. IN. Square actually did it. They have nailed what many thought would be impossible. I cannot wait.
@get2sammyb I'm with @kyleforrester87 on this one, I don't think nearly naked ice goddesses, cross dressing mini games and general silliness would work if the voice acting was too serious
Wow Don Corneo, Frog Cloud and squats for the first time in a very long time I am on the hype train for a game
This game can’t come quick enough. The more I see of it the more I can’t wait.
@Rob_230 I wouldn't say that until I'm actually playing it. While it all looks great, I am worried that it COULD be more of a "museum to FF7" - lots of great cut scenes, linked together by incredibly linear, dull game play.
I'm sure that won't be the case but something to be mindful of?
@carlos82 same here
I know RPGs, especially JRPGs tend to have wonky voice acting, and I get that if it was too serious it would be awkward, but this is just terrible. I really, really, really don't like the voices, especially Barratt.
I'm not sure any voice acting would be good enough for me personally. Having played the original multiple times I'm far too used to none whatsoever. Here's hoping I don't find it off-puttingly jarring!
I like the original, but I'm not feeling the hype. Probably due to the game being split into multiple releases. Bleh.
Also with regards to voice acting, I can say that after hearing Dragon Quest XI's voice acting, all JRPGs should have that quality of English voice over. It didn't make my ears bleed unlike most JRPGs with voice acting!
@get2sammyb @carlos82 @kyleforrester87 @Neolit
The first half of the trailer was so poorly written and spoken all I can think was - I really hope this has Japanese audio b/c this is terrible.
It wasn't just bad - bad can be good, Arc Rise Fantasia has THE worst voice work ever in a JRPG but it's laughably funny. NNK has Oliver and Drippy, 2 of the worst ever personalities, in games, though not as bad as Hope in FFXIII. And Tricky in Starfox Adventures deserves his own YT channel for his obnoxiousness.
But this. This was just gawd awful. At least for the first half. Must have been a lot of the secondary characters with the horrific lines like bad 80's movies: "Let's lay down some rubber. Crank that throttle." being the worst offenders. And parachuting guy.
By the 2nd half I didn't notice it as much. Though admittedly Barret stands out. Not that he's bad, but he sounds like someone. Not Gears of War I don't think. Not Mr. T. But someone very specific, and he seems out of place here. Too loud for one. But I think I could get used to him here. But coupled w/ all the really bad parts it's just too bad to listen too.
Japanese audio all the way. Barret would certainly be better. All the best JRPG always have a gruff old guy who sounds so serious all of the time.
Maybe it will grow on me, but right now I hate it. Almost as much as the transposition between all of those beautiful cut scenes and some of the game play that looks like it's from PS3. 50-59 is noticeably funky. Maybe they forgot to do the lighting or something for those fights?
Man i´m so hyped for this, can´t wait . It would be so awesome if we had the original japanese dub option, i would pay extra for that
I'm speechless. The game thought to be un-remakable is not only possible, but better than anyone could have imagined. This will without a shred of doubt be GOTY no matter what any other company does.
I've heard Mark Hamill is voicing Don Corneo. If true, that's amazing.
@rjejr well, good job the rest of it looks so awesome, eh?
@rjejr @Neolit @carlos82 @kyleforrester87 It's worth noting that some of the voice acting in this trailer might not be (and probably isn't) taken from the game itself.
Square Enix has a habit of dubbing over Japanese trailers to awkward effect, and on top of that, badly mixing the audio. Just look at Kingdom Hearts III.
How on earth are they going to tackle that Don Corneo scene haha either way, this looks better each time I see it. Can. Not. Wait.
DEM SUMMONS 😍
Inject this into my veins
This looks totally mindblowing!Can.Not.Wait.
Deluxe version preordered months ago.
I agree absolutely @Bliquid the Remake name really should be dropped.
Ifrit, Odin and Shiva look AMAZING. Glad to see Transform is returning, too.
Nothing to say...Just wow! Looks amazing
Hmmm, hope there is Japanese voiceovers.
Man I seriously can't wait for this game to be released
Already preordered the steelcase version on amazon a couple of month ago.
Edit: Also my fav summon from ff7, shiva is in the trailer
Wow Final Fantasy 7 is looking to be a blockbuster remake! Thank you also Square Enix for the gorgeous female characters! T... I... F... A's rocks I'm taking time off work for the launch... Been a while since any game has brought a huge grin to my face and bring out the child in me again.
It's lookin' good innit? Real good. I just really hope that the combat is nothing like FFXV's.
Prefer Japanese audio but would most likely go with English instead if there's a lot dialogue during gameplay.
Wooooooooooooooo!!!!! I saw Shiva....and you dont get her til the boat ride in Junon in OG FF7.😌...looks like i wont have to wait til second installment for that. And a lady on each arm.....veddy nice cloud😂
@get2sammyb some waaaay more cringy than others. And i believe some audio wasnt reflective of the actually scenario in which the dialogue is spoken. Regardless, not great by any stretch. The ladies seem the best imo
Rumours are suggesting Mark Hamill is voicing Corneo, not seen a reliable source on that yet though.
I have to be honest, I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy 7. I didn't care for the game much due to how it was presented with Cloud and Sephiroth, I've enjoyed the side content and the other characters but I never cared for the original game itself.
That being said, watching these trailers I'm very impressed with the direction it's going and honestly- I'm kind of excited. It seems like a different take on the original, enough where it seems really amazing! I really hope the Remake changes my perspective of FF7 because I really want to enjoy it.
Looks amazing but can we opt for subtitles?
@kyleforrester87 You are absolutely right and you should be skeptical. Does it look good? Of course it does as it is suppose to. Anthem looked good too and we all know how that turned out.
So far all Square has shown are combat footage and no exploration or RPG elements. People are taking the bait as usual. The one thing I want to see still has not been shown and that is the world map.
Is there a world map or will this be another limited exploration game like the previous FF games? Square has a track record of not delivering what they promise with FF since FF13.
Either way I am not buying into the hype as Square has disappointed for over a decade now and the game being relased in parts makes it a no buy until the complete collection which we all know will come.
So its all flash with no substance. FF7 was not an action game.
@AllTheReddist This makes no sense at all. FF7 had an amazing story with tons of substance but these trailers are action focused making the Remake look less interesting. Of course it is visually appealing, but if you did not like the original for its main story than this will not change that as the story will (should) not be altered .
@YozenFroghurt Very wise to be cautious. FF7 was my favorite game when I played it and I want this Remake to deliver but Square has been a disappointment and already messed up by releasing it in parts. People are ignoring those facts and blindly hyping it.
@GodGamer It makes a lot of sense, it's an opinion. I understand if you like the game, but if I disliked it- it doesn't mean that "it makes no sense". And each of the trailers have shown that it's changing the storyline somewhat, and I call that an improvement- which is only my opinion.
@get2sammyb Yeah, I agree. I have no idea how anyone can defend this level of voice acting. It's like a fandub. It sounds nothing like actual people talking, it's like people in a life insurance advert talking.
Never thought I'd be as hyped about this remake as I am now after watching the trailer like 5 times.
Planning to pre-order it ASAP, soon as I can afford to.
The difficult thing with all those 2020 games is deciding which ones I want to save for the PS5. I'm sure it won't run/look as good on a vanilla PS4.
It’s gunna be be bulls***
Watch the language please - Quintumply
Damn it, I told myself this is Square Enix, dont get hyped, they'll screw it up.....
Im hyped. S***!!!
Please mind the language - Quintumply
