Cyberpunk 2077 1

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to be a massive, sprawling RPG when it hits PlayStation 4 next April, and one of the things we always like to hear about in the lead up to launch is quest design. We always wonder what there is to find off the beaten path, and it looks like suiting up as V will procure a huge amount of different objectives to complete. CD Projekt Red's next behemoth of a project includes four different types of quests that will have you doing all manner of things throughout Night City.

In an interview on the developer's forums with senior quest designer, Philipp Weber, it is explained how the game will tackle a variety of mission types. Split into four different categories - main missions, side quests, Street Stories, and minor quests - every single mission you accept will be handcrafted.

Weber says: "For us, quality is always more important than quantity, and we just couldn’t deliver this quality with modules we assemble in different ways to create these random quests. We don’t just want to keep people busy, but actually give them something to do that’s worth their while." While main missions and side quests are fairly self-explanatory, it's Street Stories that Philipp Weber places the focus on.

Street Stories are the bread and butter of a street merc like V, a bit like monster hunting for a witcher like Geralt. These are the jobs that V gets from fixers like Dexter DeShawn, and doing these jobs gives V more street cred, so she gets a reputation around the city. These jobs can be very varied and of course also benefit a lot from our different playstyles, so there’s often many creative ways to solve them.

It sounds like Cyberpunk 2077 is going to offer a whole lot to do outside of its main quest - something that excites us greatly. Let's dig into all the weird and wonderful optional tasks we'll uncover in the darker corners of Night City. Are you just as hyped? Pass a speech test in the comments below.
