Monkey King: Hero Is Back is a Sony first-party project targeting the Chinese market specifically, but a Western release has always been planned, and it’s been confirmed that the company will partner with THQ Nordic to deploy the movie tie-in in Europe and North America. Available from 17th October – with pre-orders open on the PlayStation Store from today – the action adventure will be available both physically and digitally.
There’ll be two versions of the game available. Those of you who pre-order the Standard Edition – which will retail for £34.99/$39.99 – will get access to “two exclusive game modes” and a PS4 theme. Meanwhile, the more expensive Hero Edition – available only digitally for £59.99/$64.99 – will come bundled with the outing’s Season Pass, which promises two further story-based expansions and a dozen or so in-game items.
Interestingly, despite this being a PlayStation exclusive, it’ll also be published on the PC, demonstrating once more that the Japanese giant is becoming increasingly more open to its titles launching elsewhere. This is a unique case, though, as it’s decided not to publish the game itself outside of Asia and hand those duties over to THQ Nordic. All the same, there’s a new trailer embedded above – let us know what you think.

I like how there's impact when hitting the boss, since before there was barely any.
Anyway, even with the PC release, I just hope ends up as one of the few decent chinese games. I'm interested on what the game has to offer but the fact that it's already getting DLCs before release has me worried.
I remember there was an article in regards to Monkey King's last month demo. Here's the link: https://www.abacusnews.com/digital-life/sonys-monkey-king-hero-back-doesnt-look-its-ready-conquer-china/article/3020180.
@SoulsBourne128 You can just ignore the DLC and play base game, unless reviewers note that it's too short. In which case, waiting for a sale would make sense.
Seems pretty simple to me.
@get2sammyb This isn't Sony's game and Sony doesn't own it, they are just the publisher in Asia. It isn't first party like Death Stranding or Detroit, not the same case because it's fully third party game.
@naruball I actually don't mind the DLC. It's just the fact that they're offering DLC before the game is even released that worries me a little.
As I said, I'm still hopeful for the game. I just hope it ends up being good, and at the very least be one of the few decent chinese games.
i was interested in this so i'm glad a release here has been confirmed
Actually does not look bad. For $30, I'll keep an eye for it.
$30-$40? Sounds like a steal if the game's content is enough. At least it's not $60. I was impressed from what I saw about the game. The first showcase didn't do much for me but overtime it's started to look a lot better.
Will definitely add this on my wish list. Though I do wonder what Paradise and Desperate mode are. And will these bonuses and DLCs be available on PS Store for those who didn't nab these editions once time has passed?
It looks good to me not gonna lie.
@snakemake It's a Sony Interactive Entertaiment Presents joint, isn't it? I understand they don't own the IP, but I thought this was a similar situation to, say, Predator: Hunting Grounds.
@get2sammyb Yeah it is SIE Presents, but it's different. It's more like with ps1 Crash I think. And Predator game (code) is owned by Sony this time (I know the whole IP is not of course).
Can the season pass be purchased d separately?
This game has so many different companies involved in it, it is amazing it hasn't be a rights/licencing nightmare. SIE, Hexadrive, Oasis Games and now THQ Nordic (two different publishers and neither are Sony, never would of expected that lol). Since its THQ, might grab the PC version since they post pretty much everything on GOG. Wait and see lol.
Sony really wants its install base to get a PC at this point. Ridiculous.
Heavy Rain
Beyond Two Souls
Detroit Become Human
Journey
are already on PC Death Stranding soon follows. Now also Mokey King.
I wouldn't be surprised when the Predator game will be announced for PC.
Plus the whole PC Building Simulation game Sony promotes like crazy.
