Aspiring motorists, take note. Driving Essentials is available on PlayStation 4, and it's a straight-laced, educational simulation. Built for novice drivers and aimed mainly at teens, this unusual PS4 offering features 10 lessons to get you up to speed behind the wheel.
"A virtual driving instructor will take a new driver through a complete curriculum, starting with basic driving skills through more advanced and dangerous situations such as distracted driving," reads the game's description on the PlayStation Store. Leaving aside the fact it's maybe the ugliest game on the system, it's a nice idea.
What's more, this educational tool has trophies, and yes, that includes a Platinum. Not only can you brush up on your motoring skills, you can work on your trophy count at the same time.
Driving Essentials is available now in North America for $39.99. Will you be using it to help you pass your test? Step on the gas in the comments below.

But GTA5 has way better graphics
Would certainly get this for my kids, but $40 sounds a bit unreasonable for what's on offer. I'm sure I'll pick this up in a flash sale sometime down the line though for a few bucka
Hmm does this have wheel support? 🤔
@kyleforrester87 GTA5 isn't any good to learn how to drive in Europe. You don't have an UZI in the car in which you pass your driving licence.
@Crazybuttocks198 It doesn't.
I haven't seen that much fog and polygon mesh fade/pop-in since PlayStation 1.
As it's educational (and terrible looking) surely free would be a better price point.
@Rhaoulos great point!
it's American though so what use is it in other countries the UK for example drives on the other side of the road?
This looks scarier than actually driving for real.
@Quintumply I would think it has missed a trick then. As it's a driving game focused on teaching, it would favour having support for a wheel/shifter combo to replicate real life driving.
Bet scenery pop in I see in a while
I’m teaching my 15 1/2 year old how to drive and this isn’t a substitute for real world behind the wheel experience. And you don’t get the “OH S#%T!” factor either.
This must be the place
Crosstown traffic
where the streets have no name.
In my day we didn't need any 'educational' games. I had GTA III and that taught me everything I needed to prepare for my driving test.
Mind you, I can't seem to complete a single car journey without at least three dead prostitutes in the boot. So swings and roundabout I guess.
This should be banned in UK and all ex UK colonies.
A driving sim/trainer without wheel support? How many US cars are controlled by twin-stick controllers then? 🤔
@Eternallover21 Left is right, right is wrong. 😛🤣
@Eternallover21 I drive the wrong side of the road in gta V rofl 🤣
Wrong side of the road for UK drivers and not a roundabout in sight lol. Definitely not for UK buyers.
