DriveClub was supposed to be delisted here in the UK at a minute before midnight on Saturday 31st August, but if you head on over to the PlayStation Store right now, you'll find that it is no longer available for purchase. Sony has pulled the listing for DriveClub early in European territories, leaving fans and potential buyers unhappy.
The official wording on the delisting of DriveClub was as follows:
PlayStation will cease selling DRIVECLUB, DRIVECLUB VR, DRIVECLUB Bikes and all DLC and season passes related to those games from 31st August 2019, at 23:59 BST.
That exact time has, of course, not passed yet. Thanks to a tip-off from a reader who wrote in to us, it appears that the listing has actually been down for nearly two days now. "Sony delisted all DriveClub games and all DLC around 17:00 GMT August 29th." Scanning through forum chatter reveals that people started to notice that the game and its DLC was no longer available for purchase at around midday yesterday.
It's another kick in the teeth for the title, as it has become clear that many potential buyers were waiting on one last fire sale before it was gone forever tonight. This is a fairly common practice too, with Microsoft giving away Forza Motorsport 6 as part of Games with Gold and bundling up all its DLC for around £4. At the time of writing, DriveClub is still available on the US PlayStation Store.

This is just another reason why all digital future is not a good thing.
Games like 5 yrs old. If u didn't invest by now that's your business.
Why were people waiting to the last possible minute. They had all this time already.
You can still get the physical version of both games but obviously no DLC.
Oh geez people procrastinated and waited til the absolute last possible minute and are upset. Game is years old, had plenty of time to get it, suck it up
Yeah, it always winds me up that people are "upset" about this kind of thing. There's far more to get upset about than a 5 year old game getting delisted. The game is still available physically and if you've waited until now, you're just jumping on the bandwagon because it's something to get mad about.
Why have they taken it down at all? They’ve got more than enough money to support their games till the end of the generation...
#notfortheplayers
@dodoo They obviously felt it wasn't worth keeping on plus licences come into it.
@Dodoo with the number of different vehicles/manufacturers represented in this game, I highly doubt the current sales support keeping the licenses in tact forever. That would be bad business, is what it is.
Re-release it with updated models and exciting new brands: Firraro, Morcudes, Vilkskagon, Auty, DMW, and Hindo
It's a shame Sony doesn't have someone like me around to solve all their licensing issues.
Hmm, last time I checked, there were quite a few new-in-the-plastic physical copies of DriveClub floating around at the local game stores here. There were also used copies of the game on sale, so anyone here that wants to buy the game should be well covered. The fact that the game will now be gimped because the DLC is no longer available to anyone that wants it is worrying though.
Is this what the future holds for games like GT Sport in the next 3-4 years?
@redd214 @AdamNovice I see thanks. I thought the licenses would be agreed indefinitely for the time the game would be on sale for like they used to be.
Am I right in thinking this is unique? For example MS don’t take down Forza...?
@Dodoo no Microsoft has taken down multiple Forza games for the same reasons. I believe Forza Horizon 3 is the next in line to get delisted
I only just remembered to grab the VR version last night. I love the main game, one of the best racers I've ever played and although I don't have PSVR I figured I'd grab the VR version just in case. Glad that didn't get delisted 2 days early.
@redd214 Forza 3 is 10 years old and a last gen game, which has also had 3 direct sequels and 3 off shoots. Driveclub has none of that and gets delisted after 5 - or rather 4 if you look at the last dlc drops.
I haven't played it in a while but Sony could 100% have supported it for longer.
Seriously who waited this long to buy Driveclub? If you wanted the game why didnt you buy it yet? Makes no sense to me.
And there's no 4th person view or gender options either. RAAAAGE!
@themcnoisy notice is says Forza HORIZON 3
And it was my mistake it's Forza 6 that is next to get deliated this year, Horizon 3 will be next year I'd assume
Why are so many people defending Sony and/or putting the blame on the players? The fact remains that Sony outright lied, and delisted the content around 36 hours before it was due to be removed.
Imagine applying for a job, getting the offer, and being told you're required to sign the contract before 31/08 23:59. You sign it on 30/08 and are then told you did it too late, so they hire someone else.
Same scenario here!
They should do an Encore flash sale on Monday and Tuesday for those people that missed it. I would've bought the Bikes expansion, but it's no biggie for me. I already had the monster season pass for it.
Also, I'm glad it's gone. What kind of racing game doesn't have Ford in it? 😂😂
@redd214 fair play. It shouldn't be delisted though. Maybe when PS5 launches.
People really will get upset over the most trivial things these days, won't they? Not only was it available for 5 years, it's been in multiple sales during that time, and was even free for a while. If you didn't pick it up, it's your fault, no-one else's.
If you really want it that much, it's £16 on Amazon or £12 on The Game Collection.
I got mine at launch and have never regretted it. Best racer on PS4.
This may be unpopular, but the truth is that servers cost money to upkeep, and as rich as these companies may be, there is a finite amount of funds dedicated to keeping the servers for storage and hosting of older games. The only way that you can be virtually guaranteed to have access to a game is to have it on a physical disc. Even those have finite shelf lives, and if you live in a tropical climate like I do, well, the chances of that disc being playable in 5-10 years go down drastically. I've seen genuine movie DVD's and Blu-Rays (no burned copies) that I've bought in the last 10 years, that I've played maybe ONCE or twice since new, turn into a blotchy, unplayable mess even when they've been stored in the original plastic cases in cool (well, as cool as it can get, no air conditioning), dry environments out of direct sunlight. Not to mention a system that may be working when put into storage may not be working when taken out in 10 years.
@PhantomXIII any free updates yes. any purchasable DLC no
@Turismo4GT Sony should have their own servers surely. Stick DC on a board somewhere in the back of the corner and boom.
In fact it doesn't even need a server as long as the online component becomes inactive.
@Foxhound thats a little bit of a stretch. Your comparing video games to real life. But if you want to compare it like that...you had 5 years to get this job, why wait til the last minute?
@Foxhound Not same scenario at all. Not even close.
It's like you got the job five years ago, had all the time in the world to sign the contrast, didn't, got a warning that you had up to a certain date to sign it and then waited until the last minute. Yeah, no sympathy.
Plus, we're talking about just a video game. Not a job that is an important part in everyone's life. Talk about first world problems.
Go buy Wreckfest instead😁😁
Um...just buy the physical copy? Digital is trash. I still got my disc.
For me, the best looking racing game on any platform to this day, and a very good and playable arcade racer. The best weather effects of any racing game. This would have been massively more popular had they not screwed up the servers in the first 2 months following release. Sony have let a great game go here, Evolution could have produced an incredible follow up for ps5 launch. A little sad to see this disappear.
Yet people still defend digital only , as it's " forever"
@redd214 Wow its only 3 years old thats quite fast. 😔
Digital is quite flawed in this point.
@Flaming_Kaiser I guess you could view it that way, the benefits of digital still outweigh the negatives at least to me. But honestly I doubt there are many still playing 6 when 7 is already out and 8 is most likely next year.
Just redownloaded this and man, its still such a fun game. Shame it didnt become a series.
@Tasuki true but there is nothing stopping you from getting a physical copy in this instance. we will have physical releases for another 10 years before they go the way of the dodo thankfully.
@GodGamer if you purchase the physical copy, you won't be able to get the season pass, though, correct? so only some of the content will be available to you... which plain sucks.
@Paranoimia is it now impossible to get the season pass though? even with a physical release, you will be unable to get all of the content, correct?
@Porco That is true, I forgot that DC had a physical release as well not like something like say Scott Pilgrim. Still the fact that In a few months most of what the game is about won't be playable and that is a major problem to Online gaming.
And I do believe the season pass is not avaible anymore.
@redd214 I just love that i have my PS1 games on disc and ready too go. Looking for a PS3 too play my old games and relive my youth. Or maybe a nice looking PS1 with HDMI converter. Its 20 years ago but it still a option. With digital who knows when they pull the plug.
@Porco That is why i hate a GOTY Edition without content on the disc. If it does not fit let me pay for the extra disc. 😉
@Flaming_Kaiser awesome happy for you, I will continue buying digital as it works better for us
@redd214 Ofcourse but i always like the option to choose. And its not like we dont have enough plastic too recycle for some discs. 😆
@Porco True, but there's still a fair bit of content in the base game to make it worthwhile, especially if you get a bargain on eBay. And you can in theory still get all the trophies as the servers aren't due to go offline until the end of March 2020.
Hah! I'm annoyed with myself.
After my previous comment about having had plenty of time to buy the game, I've discovered tonight that I somehow missed one of the DLC packs for Bikes... the MV AGUSTA pack. So I'm very likely going to be forever short of 5 DriveClub trophies, since it's gone from the store.
Interestingly, there are a couple of DC items still available, and the content must still be online somewhere for those who bought it... so I'm going to contact support and grovel to see if they can add it to my account. I'm happy to pay for it. I doubt they can do anything, but you never know.
EDIT: I actually missed TWO DLC packs for Bikes. No idea how that happened. I contacted support but there's nothing they can do, as I expected; had to ask, though. I could kick myself for dropping the ball on that. 😥
@Porco That is why games built with adding content digitally is bad for consumers. Also digital only will never happen. Its just an option and will remain that way beyond 10 years. Companies will never limit options for their customers. I stil buy music on disc and movies. Not everyone has access to the internet, remember that.
@Frigate oh, so people should blame themselves because companies arbitrarily remove stuff from online services?
Get real.
It’s anti-consumer, regardless of the reason (more often than not ‘licences’ expiring) and it’s utterly ridiculous.
I suspect the reason is more anti consumer stupidity related to licensing. Sony should really explain why this happens instead of issuing some vague press release.
@NEOTDS
Oh thanks; So, just because I could not get the console for important personal reasons but I have plans to get it one day, and now some games I can not get 100%, this last is my business?! Oh, thanks.
/s
@Frigate I paraphrased you, but that’s exactly what you were implying, using snark and sarcasm. But please, if you were misinterpreted I’d love to hear your reasoning.
@SakuraHaruka like u said, important person reasons. Very definition of your business. Your welcome
Everything goes out of a store sometime. What if this was a 'real' physical store? What if you came back after five years to find out they still sell the same games..? Well, that wouldn't be so strange. Games aren't furniture. Some things are timeless. You can still buy Nevermind!
