The post-launch support for PlayStation 4 exclusive Days Gone continues with patch 1.40, which adds even more accessibility options to the game, a number of fixes to bugs and glitches, and even more free challenges. It's available for download on PS4 right now.
The headline addition is gyro-aiming, a feature that allows you to make small tweaks to your aim by moving the PS4 controller itself. They're pretty much motion controls, something that has been rather popular over on the Nintendo Switch with the likes of Splatoon 2. Over a year ago, we asked you lot if this was a feature you'd be interested in, with the poll suggesting that just over a quarter of you love the idea, while 37 per cent aren't interested at all. If you haven't tried gyro-aiming out before, this is probably your best opportunity yet.
Elsewhere, the 1.4 update adds a new challenge that's playable today. Reload tasks you with killing 300 Freakers in three minutes by taking advantage of the environment and a .50 BFG weapon. Three more challenges are scheduled to drop on 30th August, and then on the 6th and 13th of September.
The patch rounds out with a number of fixes to progression blockers as well as general improvements that make for a better playing game. Are you still playing Days Gone? Are you enjoying its free challenges? Avoid the horde in the comments below.

Every ps4 game should add the option to use gyro for aiming.
Since I finished and got the Platinum before these challenges started I haven’t tried them yet. Too many other games to get through. Still I think it’s good they are doing this and may go back and try them sometime.
Gyro aiming is interesting. With how popular it is for shooters on the Switch and the fact that the DS4 supports it, I'm surprised it's not more common. It actually makes aiming easier in the case of, say, Wolfenstein 2.
Have not played it yet i dont had the time backlog. 😭
Interested in trying the gyro aiming out, really like it in splatoon 2 and zelda botw. Great idea
@wiiware yeah I hope it becomes a standard next gen, but it probably won’t. It’s a shame as it’s completely optional, so it’s a win-win.
Anyone knows if Steam games supporting the DS4 or the Switch Pro Controller support gyro aiming?
Finally!! What's the point of having 3 axis gyroscope and 3 axis accelerometer if it can't be used for shooting?
@wiiware it's not possible or practical in all games plus the gyro on ps4 isn't that great.
Imo any game where you can activate it by hitting L2, it should be an option but trust me, you wouldn't want it on constantly. If it works similar to breath of the wild where you gotta start aiming for the gyro to engage, that would be a good thing
@Giygas_95 because frankly the dualshock 4s gyro isn't nearly as good as switch's. Also, even on switch, having a gyro on constantly is annoying and you need a button to recenter your aim.
But, if gyro aiming is used like it is in zelda where it doesn't activate till you start aiming, then it's great
@Trico One thing I think the PS4 has not taken advantage of at all is the DS4's touch pad. I've used it for aiming in some shooters on PC, and it actually works really well.
Still waiting for this game to be 5 or 10. Looks okay enough
Honestly, all games should have gyro aiming, I love it. Aim with the stick and fine tune with a tilt of the controller, it makes stuff much easier. It makes up for the lack of mouse and keyboard. All games should implement this.
Bought the game 2 days ago and so far enjoying it. The gameplay is very similar to the last of us with the sneaking about but maybe that will change over time when you get more ammo and better weapons.
I hope the open world part stays interesting though because I really hate repetitive side quests.
I hope they add the option to skip the audio from the tape recorders you find.
Omg Gyro aiming is the future! Every game needs this option.. I love splatoon but absolutely hate playing pvp on stupid Nintendo servers.. I'm going to redownload this game just to try this.. but ps4 needs a pvp game with gyro aiming
@Flaming_Kaiser same I've played maybe 2 hours tops but have to many games to get through. The joys of psn deals and deals online at argos stores or base. And then we have cyberpunk and death stranding and I'm really interested in remnant of the Ashes. Bloody consumerism 😂.
I'm genuinely shocked that the developer of a big PS exclusive actually bothered to integrate gyro aiming into their game. God, I wish that had been an option when I played HZD.
Good on them! Almost makes me want to get the game.
I really hope Naughty Dog implement gyro aim for The Last of Us 2!! Let them know that you want the option!!
