SEGA’s officially licensed Tokyo 2020 title will launch next month in Japan, and it’s bringing with it some old-school arcade sports action. Part of the roster is football – or soccer, to some of you – and it’s definitely channelling the spirit of Virtua Striker in this first gameplay footage.
While it doesn’t look particularly compelling, the simplistic controls and gameplay should make for a short distraction from the likes of FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer. You can check out the highlights from a match above, including one fairly spectacular volleyed goal.

Hey, at least it’s not riddled with lootboxes like FIFA or changing its name to ‘eFootball’. It’s arcade football, something that’s really been missing.
SEGA need to remaster SEGA soccer slam!
Looks fun - perhaps this will be what I hoped Legendary Eleven should’ve been.
