Final Fantasy VII Remake has a release date, believe it or not, and although it's not launching this year, it's actually not that far away. But what is Final Fantasy VII Remake? Square Enix has, on multiple occasions, made it sound like Remake will be split up into multiple episodes, with each episode supposedly being the size of a full game. It's always been pretty confusing, and the publisher's never gone out of its way to clarify how it's all going to work.
Interestingly, the new press release for Final Fantasy VII Remake doesn't mention anything about the experience being split into multiple parts, which seems like a weird omission if it is indeed being chopped up into pieces. We wouldn't read too much into it right now, but it's worth mentioning.
The good news is that we should have confirmation on the structure of Remake very, very soon. Square Enix has reiterated that the game will appear during its E3 2019 showcase tonight (that's the 10th June -- technically tomorrow for some of you at the time of writing), where more information will be revealed. We expect a full breakdown of what Remake is and how it'll be released.
Will you be watching the Square Enix stream with us? Escape Midgar in the comments section below.

I'm starting to get the sinking feeling that part 1 is just Midgar. I've been hearing that it's all of disc one, but who can really be sure of anything with Square Enix anymore.
@Enuo It's frankly crazy that the game now has a release date and we're still asking this question, but that's just Square Enix being Square Enix. With any luck, the E3 stream should answer all of our questions. If it doesn't, then Square Enix is even dumber than we think.
@Enuo if its all of Disk 1 then it should still be a pretty long game Exspecially if they add a bunch of new stuff
HYPE no matter what the case. And when/where did it get a release date? Been replaying the original on Switch in preparation for tomorrow night. Bought a PS4 for this sole reason.
Heard it ends after the events of the Ancient City, that'll be a very meaty game if true!
It won't be all of disc one, because that involves most of the world. Up until the end of Midgar is more realistic. If not, we'd have seen a glimpse of Kalm, the Zolom snake, The open world, anything else other than Midgar. Looking forward to it!
The re-worked music sounds fantastic, too. I'd like to hear more about who's producing it.
Theyll either end it after Ancient City, or maybe they will flesh out midgar massively and have that be part 1. From the trailer, they at least seem to be exploring more new stuff in midgar, such as the consequences of their terrorist actions, which should be very interesting. Either way I'm hyped !

Confirmed after the last State of Play. So unless they have managed to finish the rest of the game in one month, surely it is still episodic?
I thought it will be split into trilogy? I’m okay with that since ff7 is a big game afterall. I’ll be disappointed if the game’s episodic like telltale games though.
Well, we've pretty much only seen Midgar so far so unless they're holding out for an epic reveal, I think anyone who is expecting this to be the full game is gonna be gutted
@JohnnyShoulder came here to say the same thing. Odd that the website you use for reference is the very website now questioning it!
I think "parts" is a given, what that means could be anything though.
FFXV is 1 game and it took them almost 2 fully years to get that 1 game finished ending with episode Ardyn.
My best guess is still 3 full $60 purchases every other year, so March 2020, 2022, 2024. Plus the inevitable delays so maybe finished by holiday 2026, which at least would still be on PS5.
Which is a big thing. Will we be able to get the entire game on PS4 or like God of War will we need to purchase a PS5 to see the rest of it?
Also possible it's 1 $60 game purchase and the rest is a season pass DLC in March 2021 and March 2022. That worked out so well for Lego Hobbit. 😝
So yeah, parts, but what, when and how much? I'm really not sure I can $180, but FFXIII was $180 so can't rule it out.
They should tell us tonight, but I think I'll be watching game 5 instead.
Not even disc 1, it'll be the Midgar section only.
@SuperSilverback where did you hear that?
@BorderlineJon @JohnnyShoulder Just trying to say that we need official confirmation. That old story's all well and good but it comes from a shaky Japanese translation to begin with. The new, English press release for Remake says absolutely nothing about it being split into parts, which is why Square Enix is gonna have to clarify at its showcase tonight.
Hope that makes sense.
@ShogunRok oh absolutely, clarification would be nice. I guess Squeenix just felt it isn't necessary or something. I for one would be frankly amazed if they suddenly unveiled that the whole game is coming, and they would undoubtedly steal E3 for most, but I'm afraid to say I'm 99% certain it isn't happening.
@BorderlineJon I agree, sadly. I don't see why Square would only show Midgar up to this point if it wasn't the whole thing. Either we're getting a mindblowing trailer tonight that confirms the whole rest of the game, or it's definitely "episodic".
I think episode 1 ends at the break in/out of Shinra Headquarters following Pres Shinra death/confrontation with Rufus and the MotoDrive fight (bike mini game anyone??). Which Im fine with. That encompasses a good bit and includes Wall Market. My question is will every Sector be fleshed out (not just 5 and 7 becauzse they should be with quests and side activities). Soo....my next question. If the first episode ends when you plan to leave Midgar for Kalm and get Clouds story- will each city/town (Gongaga, Rocket Town, Nibelheim etc) be the equivalent of a Midgar Sector? SE has a LOT of questions to answer. A LOT. The more i think about fleshing out this whole world the more i see what an undertaking it is.
