Developer Beenox is really going all-in on Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, It's just revealed that the game will be getting seasonal content, complete with new characters, tracks, and cosmetic items. These seasonal events will be completely free.
A post on the official PlayStation Blog explains all: "What is a Grand Prix in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, exactly? Think of it as a themed season, constructed around a newly-themed track with a number of different challenges to undertake. Finish a challenge, and you’re awarded Nitro Points (think of Nitro Points like Experience Points). Complete more challenges to continue to fill that Nitro up. When you’ve filled Nitro up to certain levels in your Nitro Gauge, rewards are earned. Examples include new characters, karts, skins, and kart customization items."
Sounds kind of like a battle pass, we guess? The more you play, and the more challenges you complete, the more stuff you unlock, and each season brings new goodies.
What goodies, you ask? Well, Crash Bandicoot's love interest from the very first game, Tawna Bandicoot, will be arriving as a new playable character -- and she's brought friends. Remember the trophy-presenting girls from the original Crash Team Racing? They're along for the ride as well, and they've been renamed the Nitro Squad.
And, of course, as you've no doubt already noted based on the season roadmap, there's going to be a Spyro the Dragon crossover at some point in the future. We should have put money on this happening!
Clearly you're going to get some bang for your buck when Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled launches later this month on PlayStation 4. Are you looking forward to it? Rev your engines in the comments section below.

This is very impressive. The game is absolutely stacked with content.
Jak and Daxter should be in this game as a Guest character For the playstation Version
They're Hitting the GaaS!
Ok. Yeah, I'm down for this.
Does that mean you miss out on content if you don't get enough points before the end of a season? If so then that's really annoying.
Super cool seeing Beenox add so much content to the game, and for free.
I've just noticed "Baby Crash" is an unlockable character in the second event.
Game of the Year.
If there doing a Spyro themed season and he ISN'T a playable character then someone at Beenox is getting a slap.
This sounds ripe for microtransactions. I'm getting nervous.
Nice, can’t go wrong with free stuff.
Yeah, I'm not down for this... I really dislike battle pass stuff. They've lost my interest at this point.
@RBMango I mean like many people have said the base game is there for $40 this is an amazing value, you don’t have to participate in these free battle passes no one is forcing you to play them
@talhab007 No one forces anyone to play anything, but I'm incredibly skeptical about Activision turning CTR into what is basically a live service instead of a simple one-and-done $40 purchase (the latter I greatly prefer). And I have a very sneaking suspicion those wumpa coins are the microtransactions currency, because Activision's involvement means they won't just give out free content without a catch or two.
The $40 base package means nothing to me if it's compromised with typical psychological manipulation from the mobile market that doesn't belong in a "AAA" game.
@RBMango like I’ve said earlier the game is already complete this is just bonus content that Id be happily paying for, they’re handing them out for free there’s nothing for us players to complain about, if they want to monetize on the wumpa currency let them I don’t mind because as the game states you can just play offline and still obtain everything in game, I understand you don’t want to pay for anything and want a complete package but this way the game will live on for months or even years and I can’t be more then glad about that
In addition, should you miss an event, you can still buy the unlockables from that event with Wumpa Coins.

Those are not good news at all, it seems to me that they just opened the microtransactions floodgates.
I don't trust companies like Activision.
