Cuphead, the brutally difficult fan favourite side-scroller from 2017, has now released on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. You already knew that after we reported on the news back in March, but now it's coming to a new platform, cars manufactured by Tesla.
Yeah, we're not kidding. You will soon be able to play Cuphead on the built-in dashboard screens of the Tesla's Model 3, Model S, and Model X, and yet the game still won't release on PS4. That's the video game industry for you at the moment - maybe someone can make it for us in Dreams? We can only hope.

Why would want this game on PS4 I do not know
Is it a timed exclusive? How many months do I have to wait until it comes to my Honda Civic?
Bit weird. Cuphead tho >
@m42orca Because its not only available on irrelevant console hardware?
I mean, if it was a PS4 exclusive lets say, would that mean when the PS4 fades and if hypothetically the PS5 wasn't backwards compatible, that it would be "Irrelevant"?
Relevance as a metric is not just unit sales my friend. It is also mindshare, media presence, and more.
Awesome game and one of my favourites in recent years, I've had my fill of it on Xbox so wouldn't likely buy it again but it's a shame so many won't get to play it
honestly i understand some will be annoyed by this but the game never interested me so i'm not bothered myself
still on the topic of it being in a car they are on built-in dashboard screens of the Tesla's Model 3, wouldn't that constitute a distraction to the driver?, you can't use a mobile phone while driving but playing video games is ok?
@m42orca Right, I’m usually one of the ones here that calls out games or companies for being sexist, racist etc but you’re way off the mark here. While some old-style cartoons were of course not PC since they were from the 1930s, plenty of them were perfectly OK and can still be enjoyed today without any qualms. It’s a bit much to say it’s poor taste to make a game in the same style as a medium that some racists used. Is it poor taste to write autobiographies since some racists have written them? Does this make Bloodborne poor taste since Lovecraft pioneered cosmic horror? Also, on that note, would you ignore Bloodborne and other PS4 exclusives as being exclusive makes them ‘irrelevant’? Where does this end?
@FullbringIchigo Aren’t they the ones that drive themselves? Still, it’s more than a bit silly.
@nessisonett i think it has an auto pilot function yeah
It's funny cos MS keeps talking about wanting their games in the hands of more players yet ignore the biggest platform. Seems like it's only when it suits them.
@Zuby25 why wouldn't you want it? I finally got a shot at it when it came to Switch and it was well worth the wait. The visuals & music are sublime and it's a really satisfying to play, the run and gun levels are great and the bosses are a blast.
Love the "I didn't want this anyway!" comments. As a Nintendo fan, I'm well-acquainted with this sort of butthurt.
Played this earlier in the year on Steam (before the Switch port was announced, because, otherwise, I would have waited), and it instantly became one of my favorite games of the generation. Putting aside the simply phenomenal visual and audio design, there's also a ton of variety to the types of bosses you'll fight throughout. The controls are tight. Pretty much perfect performance, even on Switch.
Oh, and the level of difficulty is overstated, imo. It's challenging, of course, but not to a maddening degree. Bosses telegraph their attacks pretty clearly and give you time to react.
For those who haven't played it, you should. It's a treat. An utterly infuriating treat.
@nookie_egg i wasn't interested to begin with as i'm not big on that genre of game but i did give it a try when my brother brought it on his xb1
i still didn't like it but it's visuals were amazing
@FullbringIchigo Fair enough. Personally, it was one of my absolute highlights and if it hadn't been on steam I would have missed out. I loved the visuals, the music (INCREDIBLE soundtrack), the bosses were creative, the difficulty was challenging (as hell) but fair, and the controls were tight. I imagine it would have been even more fun with a second player... but ya know...friends and that. Each to their own.
@nookie_egg what are these....."friends" you speak of?
i know not of them
@m42orca I really don't want to start any flame wars here, but this reply REALLY SCREAMS BUTTHURT!!! I really can't describe this any other way.
I knew someone would put “why would I want this on PlayStation” - you know you’re a fan boy when you can’t resist dogging on games not on “your” console.
@m42orca
The worst take I've ever seen. Wow!
I am pretty impressed!
This game is great, and maybe someday it'll be on PS4, but if you've got any of the other platforms it's on. I highly recommend it!
I dont own a Switch or a Xbox 1 and i never play on PC i cant afford a Tesla its a pity i guess ill never play it. 😆
At least MS wants everyone to play it but Playstation gamers so what can i say. 😜
This game is high up on my wishlist, though I'll likely just get the PC version instead of splashing out on a Tesla.
Only game on xbox id really love to play
@m42orca beta
And next week we’ll find out, not to be outdone, God of War is now available on Lexus.
I imagine it will come out one day. The Tesla thing is weird, though.
It’s a fun game. Hard as heck, but fun.
Now the game is in the most toxic communities ever. Tesla, Nintendo and Microsoft. 😁
@AdamNovice Cuphead isn't a Microsoft game though, it is developed and published by StudioMDHR. This isn't the same as say, Halo being on Switch and not on PS4.
It's a bit weird the game appearing in a car though, even if it is only the first section.
Ah, more distractions in a car. Just what we need.
I wanna play a rage inducing game behind the wheel! Wait...who actually said that?
Did a feature designer at Tesla typo cup holder or something?
At this point only buy digital multiplatform on PC or PS4. Only place guaranteed to hold on to it for another generation.
Safe in my steam collection. And can use a trainer to fix that "brutally challenging" nonsense. A game being Aggravating is not fun.
That's one way to rip your car seats lol
Can't wait for the news of the first idiot who will try to beat the game while driving killing him self in the process
@m42orca
Well, I own a Switch, and I love it. And seeing as it's the soon to be second best selling console, I wouldn't call it irrelevant either, right? And Cuphead runs just fiiiiiine on that one. You might not beg for a port, but it sure seems like you're begging for others to join your hate campaign. Looks like it ain't happening, though 🤭
So the car does drive itself???
Why WOULDN'T you want to have the game on PS4? 86-88 Metacritic ratings, 8.2 - 8.4 player ratings + 95% positive reviews on Steam. Unique graphical style on top of that. This is an excellent title.
I'd love to play this game. I'm just envisaging an xBone info website filled with butthurt, toxicity, total meltdowns, and people threatening to leave xBox for ever, all because Cuphead has gone to switch and is now going to Tesla. A bit like this site the other day when a PC version of Death Stranding was rumoured.
I'll just play it when it comes out on PS4.
@johncalmc
The developers did state the game is never coming to PS4. I guess that might change though, you never know.
@LieutenantFatman And that dude from Capcom was going to chainsaw his own head off if Resident Evil 4 ever went to PS2, but it got ported to PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and everything else, and he can still wear hats so.
@LieutenantFatman Does anyone actually know WHY they don't want it on PS4 so much? I mean, talk about doing yourself out of a LOT more money for no real reason.
@johncalmc
This is true, I remember that.
@tomassi
Basically they were given a big bag of cash to not put the game on PS4 by competitors. Makes sense for a small independent studio with no money. But how long that deal lasts is anyone's guess. Hopefully we at least see it on the PS5.
I do remember playing a 3D cuphead game someone was working on back in the beta
I was pumped when it came out on the switch
then I played it - and I hate it
the artwork is awesome, but the game is just too hard FOR ME
I have platted all of the Soulsborne games - so I like a difficult game, but this one isn't fun enough to overcome the difficulty FOR ME.
Not something I'll lose sleep over. Wouldn't play it even if I had an Xbox... just not my thing. Don't like games which are difficult just for the sake of it, and I don't like the art style either.
@Gmork___ it wasn't 'really' Cuphead though was it. It was pretty basic and pretty bad. This is my fear about Dreams actually. Although impressive, the end result is games that no-one would ever actually want to play for more than about two minutes.
@m42orca this post reeks of soy and butthurt lol
@m42orca lol well that was the most misguided comment i have seen on here in a while.
So...the Tesla would come with fancy video game controllers, too? Or would it be a silly touchscreen version? And will they allow users to play the game while the vehicle is operating? Seems a bit dangerous...unless it’s a self-driving car. And, yes, I know the argument will be that it’s to be played by the passenger—not the driver—but we all know gamers who’d game & drive if given the opportunity.
