When a game comes back, and it looks pretty good, who ya gonna call? Well, we suppose you could call your Ghostbusters-obsessed mate?
Sorry, that went downhill very quickly. The important thing is, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered has been announced for PlayStation 4. It follows on from a Taiwanese rating that seemingly outed the game ahead of time -- turns out it was on the money.
The trailer, embedded above, states the game returns in high resolution, which most likely means this is "just" an up-res rather than a full-blown retooling of the PS3 original. Still, the game was pretty good fun at the time -- hopefully it still holds up today. Development is being handled by Saber Interactive, the folks behind the recent World War Z.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered will release on PS4 later this year. Will you be strapping on your proton pack? Pick up the phone in the comments below.

when there's something weird in the neighborhood who you gonna call Sammy barker.sammy I ain't afraid of Taylor swift.hahaha.๐๐๐.word up son
Very cool. I've actually never played this. Might need to rectify this.
Love this game. Will play again.
Anything has to be better than the Ghostbusters game that came out a couple of years ago that I ended up reviewing.
@get2sammyb Same. Might even try for that ridiculous trophy for completing the game with under $100,000.00 property damage
Or at least, make the most of the multiplayer this time!
@get2sammyb As I think this could be good on it, do you happen to know if it'll have VR support? Could definitely be fun in that, as the download game that they released for VR wasn't.
@JLPick They would have announced it if it had PSVR support. So no, doesn't look like it.
@JLPick
This is almost certainly just a cash-grab up-res job. So no VR.
Great game without though.
I am hoping that I can swipe up on the touchpad to lay a trap down.
If priced sensibly will pick this up will pick this up, didn't really get to play it the first time round.
Never go the chance to play this, despite hearing a lot of good things. I may have to give the remaster a try when it arrives.
Really enjoyed this game on the PS3. I'd rather a Switch port, but failing that, I'll dust off the PS4 to play it through again.
Will definitely double dip, still can't believe they actually got Bill Murray to come back for that.
Wasn't a bad game by any stretch & as close to a Ghostbusters 3 as we'll sadly ever get (RIP Harold Ramis),but I hope this remaster is based off the 360 version on this occasion...ps3 version looked a bit of a downgrade in the gfx department. Anyway, fingers crossed its not too much of a quick & dirty port ala Batman AA etc. initially were.
Excellent game, the only thing it lacked was a full co OP mode. Loved this game. One of the better gems last gen.
Really enjoyed this on PS3 so I'll definitely be getting again
Always been a fan of Ghostbusters but I skipped this game before. Now I will not. I'm gonna get it. For Egon.
I figure they will use the PC version? Id get this yes, I played on PS3 and had the Wii and PSP versions. I have so much nostalgia for the film.
me right now
plus anything to wash away that terrible reboot film and game, Sanctum of Slim was better than those pieces of trash, SANCTUM OF SLIM!!!!
i'm glad Sony are ignoring those messes
@daveh30 There is a switch version.
@NintendoFan4Lyf No upgrade for you I'm afraid, as it is skipping Steam and heading to the Epic Games Store.
Alot of PC games are really starting to segregate the PC community...
@Ralizah it's a fantastic game! Went and revisited it a couple of years ago, and my little one was hooked on watching me play. Nothing more satisfying than wrecking a room after a hectic ghost battle!
@AXEL314 Nice. Definitely adding it to the wishlist, then.
Sweet, I still have this in my PS3 wish list. Now I can move it up one gen.
I was just about to buy this, for my PSP, because my local indie store has it, for $8, in case. I shoulda bought it on the spot, but this made me hesitate, again.
I think I'll go get it, tomorrow, in preparation for the PS4 remaster, to see the difference between remaster and original, plus the difference between PSP and Vita, via remote play of the remastered PS4 version. So, I can compare original PSP to remastered Vita. Anfortunately, as a UMD, physical version, it's obviously incompatible, with vita, and so I can't compare original to remastered, straightforwardly, on the Vita โ with upsampling, for the original, on the Vita...
Either way, EXCELLENT NEWS! This game is awesome. Between this and the Telltale BTTF remaster of their incredible game, for the PS4 (I have the original, for iOS, too, which doesn't even take advantage of the iPad mini with Retina (gen 2) hardware, but the PS4 game really makes a difference, complete with almost all major characters (including Fox, as "Uncle Shamus," and Thomas F. Wilson, as every "[X]iff" character, to go along with Lloyd great, original performance. Bob Gale, who wrote the original three screenplays, has sai, on many occasions, that he sees the Telltale game, as "Back to the Future, Part IV."
Why do I go into all that? Beyond being a bit of a BTTF fan, it's mainly because Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis (R.I.P ๐ข) have always thought of this game as the final chapter, from the cinematic universe. It's the third movie, so to speak โ just as Gale thinks about the Telltale game, which you should get, because it's DIRT CHEAP, particularly on the PSN โ and I'd imagine the X-Box โ Digital Stores, plus, it works perfectly, especially with all the actors now involved. I can't imagine they would ever consider re-recording any of Ramis' dialogue, although hopefully, his originally-recorded voice work is on whatever was found, on that "disk in the desk," so that they can clean-up that original source material, for the remastered version.
All-in-all this makes the remastered version of "Ghostbusters: The Video Game," the second best '80s movie series-ending AV content, which comes in the form of a video game. They say second best is always forgotten, but this game is awesome and was never really forgotten.
This would be a sweet, sweet game, for the Nintendo 3DS โ for actually using the 3D function, even if only for the cutscenes, but I would play the whole thing, in that mold โ and I really hope they take the small amount of resources necessary, to make it, for the 3DS. That's even, no โ ESPECIALLY โ if "they" are Limited Run Games. I think that would make the first time they would actually MAKE A PORT, but if they paid, for that, and started taking preorders, for that, now, they could sell it out, at $60 - $80, Or possibly more for having completely ported it, as opposed only to publishing a ready-made game. I don't think they've ported any games, before, but please feel free to correct me, if you've actually read this far. ๐ Sorry. I'm just amped, at this news, and I'd quickly throw down $100, to Limted Run, for a physical release, with the original manual โ except extended to include instructions, for the 3DS. A cloth map of the city (รก la Ultima IV), plus an installable soundtrack, could help make that the best copy of this game, on mobile โ although mobile play, on the Vita, could give it a run for its money (no pun intended) โ and it would DEFINITELY be my favorite Limited Run game, ever!
Yeah, I think I'll wake up and go buy that PSP UMD, tomorrow... it's CIB.
@KALofKRYPTON It has good multiplayer thats cool i never even played the original.
@mechamania As I recall, the PSP (PS2, Wii) version is a different game.
I played this on Steam and by far the most frustrating part was the audio quality. I could barely hear anything Bill Murray was saying.
@KALofKRYPTON All versions are the same(with the exception of the DS version)Just the graphics are what is different between each version.
I remember having a blast playing the original PS3 game, will definitely pick up the PS4 port a few years later when it's around $15 New.
