Concrete Genie might be one of Sony's lesser known PlayStation 4 exclusives, but it's looking really rather good. Though it's been in development for a long time, we're starting to understand why that is as the publisher is slowly revealing more about the colourful adventure title. On PlayStation Blog today, San Mateo Studio's Jeff Brown tells us a little more about PlayStation VR support in the game, and there's a duo of modes in addition to the main story.
Firstly, there's a VR Experience in which you guide a Genie through a 3D landscape, using the game's signature Living Paint to build virtual reality play spaces. There aren't too many details here, but there are some glimpses of footage on the PS Blog post itself, so be sure to take a look -- it's pretty cool.
Then there's Free Paint mode. Using PSVR and two Move controllers, you can stand in one of four locations and paint the walls of the dingy town, creating your very own masterpieces inhabited by the titular Genies. It sounds like a relaxing experience, and suits Concrete Genie down to the ground.
The game arrives in the fall of this year, according to the latest trailer. Are you excited by Concrete Genie's PSVR features? Paint us a picture in the comments below.

Can't wait for this game
No wonder it's been delayed a bit, sounds like they're going all-in with these modes.
I was probably going to buy it anyway, but now they’ve shown some VR love for it, I’ll preorder it. Really impressed with the continued VR push from Sony.
Wow this looks pretty cool. Sounds like they could easily have broke this off as its own VR game and sold it separately so it looks like great value for money.
I like this sort of thing. With upcoming Dreams and No Man's Sky etc it's perhaps more incentives for people who don't have a VR headset to pick one up and have a library of VR content ready to play.
@get2sammyb "Free Paint mode. Using PSVR and two Move controllers"
I always hoped this game would release before Dreams b/c I'm afraid for their sake no matter what they do it's not going to look or seem too impressive after people have spent months in Dreams.
That's for the PSVR support, the game itself is fairly different enough from Dreams that it should have it's own audience. Maybe they should have had an "early access" version and added in the PSVR support later if that what's delaying the game a year, it was supposed to release in 2018. 😛
@rjejr at least this actually has a VR mode unlike dreams who are asking for money up front before they even provide one, i'm really looking forward to Concrete Genie, the game is unique.
@huyi Dreams may release in full, with a VR mode, before this game releases as neither has an actual release date that I'm aware of. And even if they did announce dates I'm not sure there is any reason to believe either of them. Dreams was shown off at the PS4 reveal 6 years ago, the game itself 3 years ago, and it's only now getting an "Early access" release w/ no date for the full game yet, after a botched attempt and a wide release timed demo, and CG was supposed to release in 2018, then spring 2019, so they've already been wrong twice.
So who really knows which will release w/ PSVR support first?
This game is one of my most anticipated
This sounded great even before they added VR but now I know I can get my creative juice into a virtual world and paint stickmen?awesome!
I'm looking forward to Concrete Genie more than Days Gone, if I'm being honest.
@RBMango I'm forgetting days gone as time goes along honestly lol
