We're a year-and-a-bit away from the next Olympic Games, but Japan is getting the PlayStation 4 title in just a few months. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020: The Official Video Game is due out on 24th July 2019 in the land of the rising Sun -- exactly 12 months before the real event kicks off. A western release is coming next year, although we still don't know precisely when.
Alongside this news comes a new trailer, which takes us through some of the playable events. There are 15 in total, ranging from the typical track and field disciplines to ping pong and BMX. We also get a look at the avatar creator, which lets you customise your athletes with a variety of options and gear.

I’m torn between this and the Mario/Sonic one. As long as the events are detailed enough to be interesting in the Mario/Sonic game then I’ll get that. Otherwise, this looks extremely janky but good fun.
Those people to the side look weird and scary, the stuff of nightmares!
According to Wikipedia, there are now 33 sports and 400 events in the Olympics. This game is only depicting 15 of them and is including mainstream sports such as baseball, football, basketball and tennis which are undoubtedly going to be better represented in other games and don't really scream 'the Olympics' anyway. So my question would be, before purchasing, which events AREN'T included. With those sports included that only leaves room for about 10 events. Doesn't sound worth it to be honest, but more than happy to be proved wrong!!
Game of the year contender.
I need this.
There can only be one champion. That title belongs to International Track & Field.
Odd choice of style looks very cartoony to me where other Olympic games have gone for realism. With Football and Tennis being included wonder if the old Virtua Tennis and Virtua Striker teams will be working on them. I am just hoping for Sega Soccer Slam remaster not that it will ever happen but a man can dream
Why are they releasing the game a full 12 months before the event?
Character customisation makes me about 100 times more interested than I would be otherwise, but still not that interested.
