God of War has been celebrating its first year on the market for the past week, but Cory Barlog and the team at Sony Santa Monica studio also used the occasion as an opportunity to give back to the community. Emanuel Mojica Rosas in particular, who during a visit to the studio, was presented with the Guinness World Record for the largest God of War memorabilia collection.
He describes the inspiration behind the gigantic collection being his grandma, who passed away in 2011. It was a tough time for the family, but Emanuel found refuge in his PlayStation 2 copy of God of War. He saw a lot of similarities between him and Kratos, and states that it influenced him in trying to forge his own destiny. Because of that, he started collecting and never looked back, amassing a collection of 583 items at the time of writing.
Alongside the award, Cory Barlog presented Emanuel with the original disc that God of War was burned onto upon completion of development. This was the copy used to ensure that the game could be considered "gold". It's a heartfelt thank you from the development team that pieced together 2018's Game of the Year, and one that reminds us that community is such an important part in crafting an experience.
Are you impressed by Emanuel Mojica Rosas' mammoth collection? Tell us about your own in the comments below.

I don't really understand collecting that much stuff of a certain series, but hey if it makes him happy go for it!
The disc is God of War 1 right?
It's great. If only people stopped calling every one fanboy and respect others passion.
Not really impressed. I find it quite sad, actually.
@naruball
Why?
@Shepherd_Tallon Agreed, quite sad people need to try and put him down for it.
Fair play to him. Just wish he’d picked a better game to be obsessed about BOYAAAA
Fair play to the bloke, picked a decent franchise tbf.
However I remember the Guinness world records were feats of skill, strength, endurance etc. Not knocking the bloke at all seems like a decent guy, more so the actual fact that owning 500 bits of tat can even be a registered record.
Geek Of War.
What a priceless gift to give a super fan like that. Barlog continues to impress. Kudos!
@JJ2 Because buying things won't bring you happiness and when it's so excessive, it's never good. Quite the opposite. Any psychologist (i.e. non gamer) would tell you so. This is very close to obsession.
@Frigate Can't argue with that...
@naruball He looks pretty happy....(agree with you in general but this seems like a life dream come true for this chap)
god of man.word upson
@EnragedGibbon Yeah, I get that. It's nice to see people seemingly happy, but obsessions are bad. I'd say the same about a woman obsessed with shopping, regardless of how happy she seemed.
Edit: the way he lifted up one of the makers clearly made that guy uncomfortable. It's no wonder so many celebrities are afraid of their fans and have a "no touch" policy.
@naruball I'm not sure I saw uncomfortable, maybe slightly taken aback at the guys passion but he seemed to fine with it, and his comments at the end (and in the past few days with the star wars superfan crying) make it seem to me like he truly is wowed by the effect he himself, and other creators, are having on the lives of everyday people...
@naruball
I'm not sure it's about 'buying things'.
Don't we all buy 'things'?
It's very personal matter. Everyone is different. You don't know what makes others happy.
All I can say is this person lost loved ones and related to them through gaming. Its touching.
So many people actually relate though in different ways.
I'm surprised God of War was the franchise associated with this award. There are franchises with much larger amounts of memorabilia to collect, you'd expect someone else to have gotten it. I guess that makes it more impressive.
brave of war.word up son
Cant it just make you happy to see someone else in a moment of joy and happiness. Collecting is a hobby shared be many people. Why do you think Pokemon Go became so big. It preserves the past, what is a museum a collection.
@naruball what a grump!
@Orpheus79V its specifically for the biggest GoW memorabilia collection. Not for collections in general. The biggest star wars collection is like 40,000 items or something ridiculous.
@hi_drnick no u.
@JJ2 @naruball collecting things isn’t a problem.
Phil Collins became obsessed with the Alamo after watching a documentary as a child and ended up amassing the worlds largest collection of Alamo items. He ended up donating them to the Alamo museum so they could learn from it and show it to visitors.
He still collects things in private markets, keeps them to admire for a few years and then gives to the museum.
The story of God of War resonated with this guy when something tragic happened in his life. He took that and used it to improve himself.
Now, a guy from a small town in Mexico has a Guinness World Record and something his family can be proud of.
Can’t we just give him that and be happy for him?
I mean, I certainly wouldn't collect the same thing because I've never felt GoW was more than just some above average action game... but if he loves it and isn't like, leaving his kids without food or something, then all the power to him.
I don't share the same interest in the subject, but if I had the financial ability, I would probably be much the same way with the things I enjoy.
@naruball it's clear the lad took the death of his Grandmother bad as did the rest of his family .....if buyinhg loads of "God of War " stuff is his way of coping then why not.
We all have different ways of coping, I respect your comment "I find it quite sad " but i do not agree ,if anything he was obsessed with his GrandMother who sadly is not here today .....actually neither is his Dad a very Heartwarming story of the lad escaping the darkness that death brings.
Good day to you Sir.
Good for him, he found something inspiring and rewarding for himself to bring himself back up with. What is it with people wanting to knock someone down or question their emotional attachments. Get on with your own lives and as my mother has always told me, if you haven't got anything nice to say, shut the hell up
In the nicest possible way 😁
I remember when making it into the Guinness Book of Records was an achievement. Now you simply do something nobody else could be bothered to do and there you go, a world record.
I say fair play, the Dev gave something back by inviting him to the studio. Massive passion and joy he has for collecting the memories as time went on, i can relate with gaming it's an escape from the world and when you emerse yourself all you focus on is that game and that's his passion having all of those things of God of war. Would have been an amazing experience what he got to do at santa Monica studios lucky man.
Thank you Liam for cover my note, greeting from Mexico 😊
@naruball a common person never make something incredible for example Alva Edison get obsesión to make the bulb light, he tried 999 and was until 1000 when he finally made it, who has tried 999 times un do something? Oh yes doctors and scientists because a common person no change anything, obsession people always make this world a better place to life because they do not understand the word give up and sometimes give up is not an option.
@EmmanuelMojica I'm sure there are many obsessed people who do wonderful things and help humanity, while others become stalkers and murder people. But obsession per se is not a good thing. There is a difference between passion and obsession.
@naruball you find another person's happiness "sad"? If that's a fact....You're a miserable person. You should probably talk to someone about that. For real.
I was about to say I don't understand, but if I had a lot of money to "waste", I would probably have a room dedicated to my favourite game. Not sure I should mention the name since it is not a PS game
