Oh boy, Obsidian's really gone and done it. The much loved role-playing game developer has basically gone off and made its own Fallout title, except it's set in space. Above, you can find 15 minutes of gameplay courtesy of Game Informer, who describe it as a "mix of Fallout and Mass Effect". If that's not enough to grab your attention, then we don't know what is.
It's got action, it's got loads of dialogue options, it's got loot, it's got squad members -- it's a hardcore RPG. And yes, your character is silent.
We already can't wait to get our hands on this, but what do you think? It's due out on PlayStation 4 next year, but will you be hopping planets? Jet off to the stars in the comments section below.

Good lord this looks promising!
Fallout plus Mass Effect? Yes Please!!!!!!!
That looks pretty. It needs to have you holster your gun when talking to people though. It’s strange to see you pointing it at someone with no reaction now.
I wanted a spacey-RPG like this, looks like it could be a winner. Not sure I exactly love the aesthetic they went for but that's nitpicking really.
if this does well then bethesda has even more reasons to step up their game regarding fallout.
now we atleast know what a new fallout new vegas type game could have been but without the space setting.
I’m really hyped for this. I never get hyped for games anymore these days, maybe once a year (smash this year) but this will be a definitive day 1 buy for me. I expect it to be a spiritual successor to fallout 1, 2 and NV.
Edit: although I think this was in development before the MS buyout but I hope this means those MS purchases will be like mojang. And if so my guess is that MS will focus on power and streaming next gen and will go full multiplat.
also if this get's dlc, will that also come to ps4?
would be a shame if they eventually stopped supporting the ps4 version because microsoft.
It does look quite promising. I'm one of those who prefers a voiced player character over a muted one but no biggy, I loved the witty dialogue options in New Vegas so I'm sure this will be chock full of them too.
Have to say, it is looking pretty good.
@darkswabber this game is part of private division which is like a 3rd party partnership studio of take two interactive, and obviously it was in development for quite some time. I wouldn't hope for any of the recent studios to be like Mojang, as any of these purchases wouldn't make any sense. They invested i studios to bolster their luck luster 1st party offering, not to be sponsor for struggling studios
Obsidian reminding us how much we'll be missing out on in their incredible games once they're no longer on PlayStation. A shame it wasn't Sony that bought them first.
looks amazing.it does looks like fallout.it even slows times.very excited.word up son
@LieutenantFatman I agree.playstation should buy them.but now.if they buy imsomiac.quantic dreams.suppermasive games.etc.word up son
Doesn't look interesting so far, a rather generic first-person RPG. If it does something more unique, like allowing you to play as an alien, I might be interested. Right now it just looks like Fallout with a new coating.
Why does he "loose" munition when reloading?
I'm so excited for this.
This was the biggest Surprise announcement for me as I really didn't expect a game with this much promise from Obsidian who really seemed to be struggling both financially and creatively - the two are linked as you may have big ideas but not the budget to deliver or being constrained/limited by budget - especially if you are looking to compete in the AAA sector.
I got the impression of Fallout, Mass Effect and No Mans Sky (more the colour palette and life forms than any other aspect).
Looks awesome, will definitely be keeping an eye on this.
Bethesda, look at what can be done!!
'mix of Fallout and Mass Effect".
So its third person perspective?
Edit
Watching the gameplay with that gun constantly on the screen. Seriously people find that 'immersive'? I feel first pers has nt much evolved for years except for VR which I do like
Ughh, as if I needed another huge open world band to be excited about lol. This does look very good, look forward to seeing more.
Announcement of the Game Awards for me! I try not to get hyped for games, but I inevitably do end up getting hyped (when I am eventually certain that a release date is set in stone), and video media shown so far combined with my confidence in Obsidian makes me think it'll be right up my alley, so I foresee feeling some mighty hype in future! 😀
@darkswabber I've said for a long time that MS should go multiplatform, they would do so much better business wise, especially has Xbox as a platform has lost a decent chunk of its audience.
@AdamNovice gaming is at 9.8 of TOTAL MICROSOFT revenue. I hope you realize how much is that? So they're already doing excellent, believe it or not. And no, they wouldn't be good going software only, why would they? They don't have so many games(software) and other platform holders would never allow them to put gamepass, mixer etc on their respective platforms. They would also lose 30% cut which is their biggest revenue generator. This assumption just don't hold any value, really. All the arguments are against it, so I don't see why people keep spreading it.
I'm interested in this game. I've been craving a deep sci-fyish RPG like ME for a while. To be fair though, the gameplay looks generic. Hopefully we will see more of it soon; maybe it'll change my mind. Regardless, I'll be checking this out.
Obsidian is a underrated developer.. Too bad Sony didn't buy it.! ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°) good job by Microsoft
Starfield? What's that?
@AdamNovice
Well they are multiplatform too. That's what they've been pushing for these past few years.
I feel they typically do what Ms does and try expand their software to push and monopolize in one way or another.
@AdamNovice I cant say I agree. Yes they are going multiplatform with PC but that's just to keep people tied in to their ecosystem but they don't make many games worth going multiplatform.
The only people really with an xbox are those running off goodwill from the 360 era or those looking for the best multiplatform experience with the oneX. Without those MS would be as good as dead as a gaming company.
MS haven't made a real standout title in years. Hence their recent shopping spree on developers. But even then.. whens that going to pay off? 3-5 years down the line?
Looks quite tedious to me. Likening it to Mass Effect isn't exactly a selling point for me either... I played ME3 on PS3 and it bored me to tears. I really enjoyed Fallout 3, but New Vegas also bored me to the point of not finishing it... too similar to FO3.
But then I've never really been an RPG fan. In terms of the genre, the only thing I'm looking forward to is Horizon 2. The first is simply amazing, and I'm going through it on NG+ Ultra Hard now, along with (finally) starting The Frozen Wilds.
Yes dialogue options (and silent protag!!)! I swear the ME dialogue wheel darn near ruined western RPGS for me. So happy when devs don't ape it. This is looking really good. My only issue with current fallout is how closed off the world is. Its huge but half of it is rubble, if they fix that quibble then I expect this will be very, very good for me.
after the mess of Fallout 76, Bethesda should be worried as this trailer already has people more excited than all their upcoming games do
Yes,but does it have sprint? (looks that way)
!!!!! Oh heck yea!!! Just hope it does infact release on PS
It'll be interesting to see how this performs, especially with Microsoft purchasing Obsidian. It also raises the question of when Obsidian will be able to release an Xbox exclusive.
That What i seen out right .
Sorry but it looks terrible to me. Last-gen visuals and boring art direction, dull combat...I really don't see anything worth getting excited about.
