Hey, did you realise that today is the 7th November, also known as N7 Day to fans of Mass Effect? N7 Day used to represent a time when BioWare would get all chatty and nostalgic over its sci-fi series, but it's safe to say that here and now, in 2018, the enthusiasm from both the developer and the fans -- ourselves included -- isn't quite what it used to be.
And let's not beat around the bush: we have Mass Effect: Andromeda to thank for that. The incredibly divisive, and in our opinion, downright disappointing 2017 title has become a stain on what was one of the most beloved franchises in gaming. Don't get us wrong, we still look back on Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 with a great fondness, but just thinking about Andromeda leaves a bitter taste.
It's no secret that Mass Effect has an incredibly passionate fanbase, and we're sure plenty of the BioWare faithful will be treating today with more positivity than us -- and that's great. But ultimately, it's a huge shame that N7 Day's had the sheen taken off it, at least for us.
That said, we'll go ahead and close out this article with a quick (and totally unsurprising) appeal to EA and BioWare:
Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered. What are you waiting for?

and how much we want the trilogy remastered for current systems
The first game needs more than a remaster. It at least needs ME 2’s combat slapped on it. At this point, we’re looking at PS5 remasters though. It would be a good remaster though. I still need to finish ME3 though. I’ve got that halfway done or something.
@Jaz007 yeah i would agree the OG game's combat system has NOT aged well at all
Andromeda was an excellent game. I recently beat it and i recommend it to existing fans and ppl unfamiliar w the franchise
Can't even be bothered to put the trilogy on PS Now, let alone remastering it.
Andromida was not the car crash of a game that everyone seemed to make out it was. A lot of the hate was driven by those who never played the game and jumped on the band wagon. If everyone who made negative comments about the game had actually played it then i would have been a top seller.
@AdamNovice well to be fair they would need EA's permission to put it on PS Now and with EA wanting everyone to use their EA Access service for streaming of their big games it probably never will
@hotukdeals rubbish. The story was awful. It was a good game if you strip away the story and play it as a shooter. But it was mass effect - the star wars beater.
@Fullbringlchigo True but they were happy to the trilogy on Xbox's BC service, at least on PS Now they would get some money back.
@AdamNovice well EA have a better relationship with MS after all MS let them put Access on the XB1, Sony didn't let them put it on PS4
I was a fan of the original games and I've never heard of N7 day... :/ Either way, I wouldn't even buy a remaster of the original trilogy because I made the decision long ago to no longer knowingly give EA money.
@Fullbringlchigo And rightly so as PS4 would have gotten lesser service through it since on Xbox it includes games like Mirrors Edge and Dead Space which wouldn't be available on the PS4 version for obvious reasons.
Bioware is a shell of it's former self. All of the good talent left a long time ago, and they keep bringing back the people who screwed up the end of the trilogy in the first place on their new projects. Rest in peace ME trilogy, may a better developer come along and fill in the gap left in the sci-fi space opera black hole.
N7... I even forgot what that stands for!
Having played through 1 and 2 with 3 currently on hold, I like the series and am sad at how it seems to have fallen so far.
Once I finish the trilogy, maybe I'll check out Andromeda just to see if it really is that bad.
Happy N7 everyone!
Let's celebrate by pre-ordering Anthem.
I need a big poster of the SSV Normandy.
I platinumed ME2 on my Xbox 360 back in the day, but the lousy achievements of 360 shows no platinum just 1025/1255G. They add DLC achievements to the total 1000G of the base game to force you to get the DLCs so it looks complete like 1255/1255G...ugh Xbox.
Was my favourite sci-fi game. Now I'll give it to Fallout 4 which is semi sci-fi. Felt sorry for what the internet did to Andromeda.
I've bought mass effect 1 for the og xbox 360 I bought to play first red dead. I'm going to give it a go after rd2. Never played any of them so hope I enjoy!!
Mass Effect had controversy with the ending of 3. Andromeda wasn't 'great' but as a 'stand alone' RPG, I think it was average - especially after a few patches to improve the faces. The biggest disappointment was the fact it had Mass Effect on the box and the expectation that came with that. We all were hoping for Mass Effect 2 but with next gen technology to improve the game so Andromeda did disappoint.
I though some environments were great and looked stunning. The story was 'OK' - not great and in a lot of ways it felt like a Mass Effect game - especially being on your ship or on the Nexus. I prefer the combat because its much more open and a lot less corridor based and the Nomad was better to drive too.
Its not as good overall as the trilogy and things I tolerated in the Trilogy were more annoying this time - like the scanning of planets which was similar to ME2's system. Having to wait for the ship flying to the galaxy, then wait to fly to the planet you were scanning, scan and then search the planet for the resource, then wait as you flew to the next before repeating this did get tedious - like ME2's but whether it was because times have moved on or because the game was more 'average', this seemed more tedious.
I would love a remastered collection of the Trilogy but I also think that EA should have given BioWare time to polish and work on ME:A but they had to get it out in that financial year to appease shareholders. We know it had a disjointed development, switching engines as well as numerous departures of staff but I do think with more time, this game could have been much better received and 'less' of a disappointment. I still think it would have had criticism because Ryder isn't a military man and the overall story isn't as compelling but it could still have been a better than average game.
I would love to see ME return in the future too and hope Andromeda wasn't the nail in the coffin some seem to think it is...
@NintendoFan4Lyf Me too. Always thought this was an overrated franchise.
I mean they're good games but the praise they used to get was like they were the second coming or something!
Absolutely loved the original trilogy, actually gave the second one a standing ovation when the credits rolled (on my own, weird I know), really struggling to get through Andromeda...(and gutted about that)...
Enjoyed it more after changing the gormless looking female ryder character as well....
I understand some of your points but Mass effect wasn't ruined really mass effect ended when the reapers were beaten well for me at least yeah MEA wasn't that good of a game, but to be fair anyone going into it thinking it was going to be any good story wise is just being very silly
And to be honest, I very much doubt a lot of the people commenting on this forum haven't put much time into Mass effect 1,2,3 probably mostly played MEA so cheer up I'm sure Bioware will bring back Shepard in his early years
@SilentKills no more Shepard! I think a prequel would restrict the game too much. I mean, between the First Contact War and the events of the first game, not a whole lot happens to humans, and definitely nothing that interesting for Shepard.
@keihtg well the only thing we know what happened to shepard is the blitz so maybe they can do a story around that.
I love Mass Effect! I hope they make a sequel to Andromeda and don’t just throw the baby out with the bath water (like Call of Duty has done every time a game flops...Ghosts 1, Advanced Warfare 1, Infinite Warfare 1). Andromeda has an amazing premise IMHO (colony ships that set off during the original trilogy) but failed to tell a compelling story, so there’s still potential in that.
EA pulls the strings tho, so who knows...
@SilentKills I’d definitely take a smaller side-game starring a younger Shepard or that explores characters from the original trilogy! Definitely better than nothing. I’d even take a mobile game over the whole series getting permanently axed!
@keihtg Agreed it would be nice to see the backstory of the other crewmates wouldn't mind playing as joker that could be interesting....The thing that ruined MEA was the story line the graphics and combat were great
Just give us a Mass Effect Trilogy Re-Master EA/Bioware, easy money for you and will be the first step in getting fans back on your side. Then after that you can lead into a new mass effect game that has nothing to do with Andromeda.
EA likes low effort and high payoff so why haven't they ordered Bioware to remaster the trilogy yet? At least do it before you put them down completely.
This article cuts me deep.
Ahhh, ME2...a personal favourite. Really great characters, great story and much improved playability.
I really fancied Miranda too ;op
Femshep will always be a gaming icon for me.
it would make the most sense to make a sequel to Andromeda there's still alot of potential
I’d love for Naughty Dog to take on a sci-fi game after they finish with The Last of us 2.
@DaruniaJones88 See i'm gonna have to disagree with you about MEA in 1 sense ME 1 2 3 Storyline was amazing combat system meh but still good enough MEA only got 2 things going for it that's good graphics n good combat system the storyline is just so plain.....the fact is people feel like MEA ruined mass effect is due to the storyline the villians in mass effect 1 2 3 were great The Archon in MEA is just a boring old douche
It would make the most sense to stay as far away from Andromeda as possible.
I always find it funny when people say, but but but all the bugs got fixed so its fine now, they clearly never understood it was never really about the bugs.
The story and characters was what made the trilogy so great, something Andromeda failed miserably at. The only decent thing you could take from it was the graphics and gameplay was good, thats it.
@Cordeceps And i find it funny how everyone expects the story of one game to match a trilogy contrary to what you might think there is more room for bioware to build off of in andromeda then going back to the milky way
I liked ME Andromeda and enjoyed it more than I did ME3. Okay so most of the crew characters were forgettable as was the story but the combat was good fun and those biotic combos were a joy to take down baddies with.
I really liked my Sara Ryder by the end of the game, too. At first, she annoyed me with all her snarky little quips as an answer to everything but when I stopped comparing her to the great Femshep and realised that that was just her character, she totally grew on me.
Where's our Mass Effect Trilogy PS4 remaster announcement?
