If you want to try SoulCalibur VI before it's released next month, then you may want to jump into the open network test that's now live on PlayStation 4. If you haven't downloaded it yet, then you can grab it from the PlayStation Store by using the search function.
The test features ranked online battles, and has 15 playable characters:
- Mitsurugi
- Sophitia
- Grøh
- Nightmare
- Xianghua
- Kilik
- Ivy
- Zasalamel
- Geralt
- Siegfried
- Taki
- Yoshimitsu
- Maxi
- Talim
- Tira
It's worth noting that Tira is an additional character who'll be available as paid downloadable content when the game launches. As such, it's a bit cheeky to have her playable in this network test.
The test ends on Monday, the 1st October at 04:00 BST.

Is there a way to play against a friend? Or is it just ranked battle only? I’m guessing just the latter.

@Kidfried thanks. Sucks. My friend I play with online is really into Soul Calibur. I’ll still give it a try. Sorry for another question, so they at least have a training mode to try before jumping into online?

@ztpayne7 I still enjoyed a few matches and the download is really small, so you've got nothing to lose! I loved the few matches I played so far, but... My last SC was the second one, two generations ago. So against some of my opponents I feel enormously outranked unfortunately, and there's no way for me to improve my skills right now. So, that's the only thing that sucks. Aside from that: it's fighting game perfection so far. Engaging fights, even when I was losing by a mile, always felt like I could make a comeback.
@Kidfried What! So you can't play 2-player locally? So much for setting up a little tournament, lol.
@keihtg Probably in the final version. But this is called the 'network test', so they probably just want to test stress on the servers and nothing more.
We just have to be glad to get some time with this game at all before release. Always feel like a game journo when I play these betas.
@Kidfried I'm thinking of giving this a go. Do you need PS Plus to give the network test a spin?

@Kidfried gotcha. I’m with you though. I mostly played 3 which was also on PS2. I played a little of 4 but didn’t really like that very much and got rid of it quickly. I red boxed #5 and it turned me off. But I really want to give this a try.

I played a match, I was nightmare versus Mitsubishi. I won. Haven't played a sc game since 2.
@Cutmastavictory yeah I won my first match, too. It was hard remembering the controls though. Really wish there was a training ground for the network test.
I just did the tried and true method, knock them off the stage
I actually really enjoyed it and to my surprise won most of my online battles. Only issue is do i get it now or wait for a complete edition with all characters released..
