Earlier this evening, news broke that Telltale Games has laid off 285 employees, effectively closing the developer down. However, initial reports suggested that a "skeleton crew" was being kept on to finish up the final season of The Walking Dead, but now new reports are saying that isn't actually the case.
Sources have told USGamer that the aforementioned skeleton crew isn't working on The Walking Dead -- it's in fact working on the "Minecraft Story Mode project for Netflix". This means that the remaining episodes of the final season of The Walking Dead have been cancelled alongside The Wolf Among Us 2 and Telltale's planned adaptation of Stranger Things.
It's unclear what Telltale's plan of action is for those who have bought the episode pass for the final season of The Walking Dead, but we'll keep you updated once we know more.

Hell no I know they better be giving me my money back
So why don't they cancelled the Minecraft stuff and use that crew for the The Walking Dead? Sure that will be the bigger money maker. Minecraft isn't as popular as it once was.
@DLB3 What about the obligation they have to season pass owners?
tell me what the hell is going on with Telltales studio ? poor sales or what ?
i am very sad to not finish episode 2, 3 and 4 of Final season.. Clementine is amazing character.. ughhh
Gutted. . . after years of playing and loving the previous seasons, I cant believe we're not gonna see the conclusion to Clem and AJ's story. Finished 1st chapter of Final Season yesterday and adored it. Couldn't wait for next episode. Sad day.
@fluggy Me too.. Clementine is amazing character.. ughh i don't know why Telltale studio closing down.. that's absolutely shame
This is absolutely mind bogglingly insane.
@Tasuki they likely have to fulfil their contract with Netflix or face even worse penalties than disappointing TWD fans.
@Mokinokaro It's not about disappointing. As I said I can guarantee TWD Final Season will make more money then Minecraft. Minecraft just isn't as popular as it once was so willing to do a Minecraft project instead of TWD is just a bad decision
@DLB3 Really? I thought I read somewhere that TWD was their biggest seller.
Smh suckers that bought that episodic mess..... shame on you.
I thought they had good sales..?
Thats awful! the WD series cant just be left unfinished to rot and wander around tormenting us fans!!!
Oh my god. Alexa. Play Despacito
That's awful, I'm really sad about this entire situation. Crazy to think that The Walking Dead was considered by many in 2012 the game of the year, and now the series will not have a proper ending. I will miss Telltale a lot.
Figures. Literally the day after I sold walking dead 1 & 2 on the vita to upgrade to the switch ones. Ugh.
Maybe THQ Nordic will buy it. It as in the game license, not Telltale. Though TWD populated with Rugrats characters may be a little strange.
Some absolutely insane news to wake up to... .
I really did enjoy all the games that I played. I even saved TWD for YEARS to play the complete story at once & now it stays unfinished... .
I wonder if YouTube/Twitch is partially to blame for this, but seems like there was a lot of mismanagement at the top.
300 staff?! That’s bigger than most First Party Studios.
Real sad. These games were great palette cleansers.
THQ Nordic to the rescue?
@Fight_Teza_Fight If anyone to the rescue I would want it to be Camp Santo makers of Firewatch. For one thing Camp Santo was founded by a few of the writers of Season One of TWD.
And this is why I have never played or bought an episode of any game that isn’t complete. My slightly paranoid completionist mind won’t let me for just this scenario
@get2sammyb
Incompetence to the highest degree is what it is. Feel awful for the people who were working there. They put out good products for the most part, but poor management messed things up.
Surely there is a contractual obligation to finish this for season pass owners, or at the very least offer full refunds. This is awful awful news
This sucks for any company wanting to do episodic games in future. People will be less likely to buy until all episodes are out. This may be the end of episodic games unless Life is Strange 2 can save them.
Episodic games are a cancer. (I don't want a sitcom format.) Also the fact that they released 1 episode on a retail disc, and had to download the rest. I feel bad for the folks that are out of work but, good riddance. Hopefully the other companies with that episodic stuff for games take notice.
They must of knowing what bad state they were in, so they should of never started the last season in the first place knowing this, feel sorry for all those who lost jobs but this proves to me the incompetence of those at the top, just a case of terrible management
@delukze
No not really , really shot themselves in the foot with taking so long to release all episodes so most people picked the season pass was on sale and this was usual long before all episode had been out, just a case of greed and incompetence from the management. The walking dead are the only ones that made money.
@suikoden Yeah have to agree on that. Telltales business model was severely flawed. The episodic format worked when they started out with games like sam and max and monkey island (shame on telltale for abandoning the proper adventure game format after the success of twd). But as soon as they took too much on, it collapsed. I soon stopped buying telltale games on day 1 because of the wait between episodes, knowing i wasnt playing them till all episodes were released. And they always slashed the price of the season pass after like 2 or 3 episodes making me feel like a mug for being there on day one. So i stopped buying and waited for the inevitable sale. They should never have reduced the price of their titles until all episodes were out as it only alienated the core fan base. Its why i dont have the sp for walking dead 4. I truly hope for those that do own it that they can get refunded, or the remaining episodes can be released.
Such a shame we wont see more batman or wolf among us though
Always loved telltale games but wish they had done a lot less different projects and stuck with the core games. Very sad news as wolf among is is my most highly rated of their games. Was looking forward to the walking dead as the previous season did not have the right focus.
I am not sure what the future of 7 days to die is either I guess that is over now too unless picked up by another company
What an absolutely tragic end to the amazing story of TWD.
and this is one of the reasons to be weary of Episodic games and why you should wait until all the episodes are out before you buy
@FullbringIchigo
If everyone waits until the full season is complete which could be 6 months or more then the company generates no money which in itself is a problem causing more financial hardship for the company.
@hotukdeals then instead of being episodic they should have just released full games
Oof. Sorry for those who lost their jobs, but I'm very glad I didn't jump in and buy the season pass for TWD Final Season. I always wait until they drop in price a bit, or are in a sale. Shame we won't get to finish the story, though.
What an absolute mess.
But we get a netflix storymode..... 😑
@Tasuki You take the money so you better deliver.
@FullbringIchigo Cant agree more and seasonpass discs with one episode on it. 🤮

I never bought TWD Final Season but this sucks for those that did.
Hopefully they'll get a full refund or some form of compensation.
@hotukdeals 7 Days to Die won't be affected since they were just the publisher, The Fun Pimps makes the game and Iron Galaxy handles the console versions.
Well they will probably kill Clementine in episode 2 but i hope they at least post the script so we know how it was supposed to end
Anyone else as stoked as me for Half-Life 2 episode 3, though?
Still confused me how this is news and not rumor when the initial and follow up "reports" are both rumors....
I was really looking forward to Wolf Among Us 2,the first TT game to get me excited in a long time. Perhaps that was part of their problem; people had lost interest in the IP's they were working on.
Oh well. Still very sad news.
Nothing much more to add really tbh. All of you guys and girls have summed it up already but just to add my 2 pennies worth anyway, what a disgusting way they have treated us loyal TWD fans. I also bought the season pass and I expect a full refund as compo. Such a shame as the first episode was excellent. I was looking forward to seeing how Clems and AJ story was gonna unfold out but I suppose now we'll never know. Shame on Telltale 😔
They took to many games on at once should have stayed with TWD & Wolf Among Us for a while. hope they find new jobs asap
F
This was their most dominate series, how can they not at least finish this up ? Sad day indeed and i was looking forward to Wolf Among Us 2.. There goes that dream.
@KidBoruto Technically all they have to do is give them episode 2. It's something and if that ends the season they gave season pass holders the full season. I know it sucks because every other season is something like 4 to 5 episodes long but as I said technically they are in the right
@Tasuki The Season Pass clearly promised all 4 episodes though...if it's only giving them 2 episodes they should get back a partial refund at the very least.
$20 / 4 episodes = $5 per episode, so everyone should get back $15 if it stays Episode 1 only, $10 if they also get Episode 2.
@KidBoruto Did it state 5 episodes on the season pass?
@Tasuki My apologies I was wrong, they promised 4 episodes not 5.
Quote: "Includes access to all 4 episodes (Episode 1 available at launch, Episodes 2-4 coming soon)."

@KidBoruto Yep then at least Sony may owe something since it's through the PS store. Thanks for the link.
@Tasuki They normally never offer refunds but I'm hoping this will be one of those special exceptions.
Especially if enough Season Pass owners make a stink about it.
"I thank those who bought a season pass we used those funds to pay several creditors and cannot refund those monies as an apology we will be offering 1 of 5 of our older titles at no cost"
Most likely scenario, they broke.
@Tasuki they're working with Netflix about Minecraft Story Mode. They will make money from that.
What are Sony going to give away with PS Plus every other month now Telltale is closing?!
@Tasuki campo Santo was bought by EA or maybe Activision can't remember
