Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Around 200 Species of Animal, Says Rockstar

200 animals or just variations of a few animals?
I have to admit, if they managed to capture the behaviour of 200 different animals, this is incredible.

Love the level of detail they seem to have gone in to for this game. Some the previews blew me as they mentioned the little touches - things like mud reacting realistically as you move in it, blood sticking to your clothes as you carry a corpse, or light shining off a chocolate bar foil wrapper as you examine it in a store. Makes me think these won't be 200 throwaway species that all act the same way, but that they will be truly unique.

Wow, despite all the gta online nonsense, this is really impressive, I loved hunting bears in the first RDR. Wasn't gonna get this on release, but hearing this gets me really excited 😂

Well they have to make up for not being able to put in 200+ vehicles with the limitations in the 19th century. So I'm not surprised in the level of detail of things. They have the budget to spend it on.

This is going to raise another bar for the open world genre, which Rockstar are the kings at.

What, nobody has tried to compile a list yet?

Farm animals - cow, pig, sheep, goat, chicken, horse
House pets - cat, dog
mammal hunting - squirrel, moose, bear, cougar, rabbit, deer, elk, muskrat, beaver, wolverine maybe, or mongoose
birds - lots and lots of birds, song birds, birds of prey
fish - lots and lots of those too, salmon, perch, catfish, trout
Do insects count? Gotta have at least a scorpion. And a videogame isn't a videogame these days w/o a butterfly.
reptiles - several lizards like gila monster, at least a few snakes, turtle, tortoise, frog

Lots of those can of course have multiples, like for dogs, do different variety count? And deer, and even bear probably at least two, black and grizzly.

Though the tweet did say animals, birds and fish so maybe that 200 doens't include insects or reptiles?

Anyway, yes, 200 is a lot, but probably just what they thought up as they went along. Probably mostly birds and fish that most of us probably wont' even be able to tell are different species while we play.

Wonder if we'll gt a trophy for killing 1 of each?

I hope this game will advance the open world genre like the witcher 3 did a couple of years ago.

100 of them are microscopic insects that won't be bigger than a pixel anyway.

@MaccaMUFC no that they putting in too much content, not detail or effort, it's great they want to make a large living world but i think they have gone overboard it's just a game after all, you shouldn't need to make sure your character washes for example, what's next making sure your character goes to the toilet otherwise he gets stomach cramps or soils himself?

as strange as it may sound you can "overfill" something and it can actually be detrimental to the game instead of helping it to the point the game becomes a chore instead of fun

people play games to relax or for enjoyment not micro manage every little thing about a characters life, we have to do that every day IRL, games are supposed to be out break from life

@FullbringIchigo I see where your coming from but I seriously doubt it would impact gameplay, not that much anyway, like if Arthur can get fat then his stamina stats could be low so you couldn’t run as far or fast without having to take a breather (has it been confirmed yet if you still have to mash the X button to sprint?), feeding his horse would be important if it can permanent death. But even if these things were in the game it would probably only take a few seconds to deal with and only have to do them every now and again.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are trying to make this as realistic as possible, I read years ago before GTA V came out that one of the Houser brothers (can’t remember if it was either Dan or Sam) wanted to let cars in GTA V run out of petrol and have to fill it up at petrol stations and pay and that if you got shot or injured in any other way you would have to ring an ambulance or get yourself to hospital but one of the other brothers intervened and said no that’s taking it too far, it’ll be interesting to see which brother got they own way this time but to me it’s looking like it was the brother who wanted petrol to run out and ring ambulances.
