We've been waiting on Dreams for pretty much the entire lifetime of the PlayStation 4, but whenever we see new gameplay, it's clear that this ambitious project is no small feat. It's looking incredible in the latest live stream from Media Molecule, in which the studio presents levels and games it's shown before, then dives into the nitty gritty of how they were made.
The diversity in the creations is one thing - we see a shoot 'em up, a text adventure, and a cutesy multiplayer game during the stream, among others - but it's fascinating to learn some of the ways they come to life. The tools seem to allow for pretty much anything you can think of, with even the logic systems appearing to be fairly straightforward.
We can't wait to try Dreams for ourselves. Hopefully the promised beta test will hit PS4 soon, because the things the community will make with this could be extremely impressive.

I feel confident the batteries in my 2 Move controllers will die just before this finally releases. I just hope it's before they decide to make it PSVR version 2.0 only. Oh wait, that already released, make that PSVR2.
I’m seriously trying not to be snarky here, as making fun of the development cycle of this game is like shooting fish in a barrel at this point, but I honestly am wondering what the hold up is. They are showing off very impressive demos for the last year and everything seems to function quite well with incredible depth to the creative tools and it apparently runs smoothly. It begs the question, what’s the problem? Are they trying to make it more user friendly? Are they expanding their ideas and adding more features? Is it the integration with PSVR that’s contributing to delays? Or were they too ambitious in their plans on the current tech and having to back down some of the feature to make it run better?
It just seems every time they show off the game, the presentation seems to indicate near final product quality.
So much detail. Impressive.
@Th3solution my guess is with so much detail, many things might glitch. If they release a partially broken product with such a detailed environment it might turn off the community before it can get going. Or they don't want any bad press. I do agree it seems ready to go.
According to eurogamer it is playable on the show floor at egx next week, so expect a demo to follow shortly

@Rob_230 The game has been playable at a few events now, so this is unlikely to indicate the beta is nearly here. However, Media Molecule keeps saying it'll be this year, so it's got to be soon.
@Quintumply even if the beta goes live at 11:59pm on December 31 this year, that still qualifies as 'this year' and I'll give it a go.
Who would have thought that it would be Media Molecule missing this generation? Crazy.
@lacerz They haven't missed the generation yet to be fair.
@adf86
True. It's a bit exaggerated. Still, for a game announced in 2013, and with rumors of a PS5 launch in 2019, they're cutting it close.
@lacerz
They released Tearaway Unfolded for the PS4 for back in 2015. Which in my book is a game this generation.
Critical hit, commercial flop unfortunately, I predict..
