Publisher THQNordic has announced that it's acquired the rights to Kingdoms of Amalur, sparking hope in the hearts of those who have been eager for another game in the series -- ourselves included.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was an action role-playing game that launched on the PlayStation 3. While it wasn't a gigantic hit or anything, it was well received, and it quickly gained a hardcore following. It had a superb battle system that was full-on action, and its varied fantasy world was a joy to explore.
Many years ago there were rumours that a sequel was in the works, but it never saw the light of day because the developer's parent company, 38 Studios, was shut down for financial reasons. 38 Studios has owned the property ever since, but now it's been bought up by THQNordic.
Naturally there's already a lot of talk about a return to Amalur, but are you up for it? Crush some gnomes in the comments section below.

THQ Nordic, known for being the world record holder of owning way too many IP's. :')
Just how much money do THQ Nordic have?! It’s crazy how many IPs they have acquired in such a short time.
Please for the love of GOD! One of my favorite games last gen. Such an underrated game...
I want to dust off my chakrams...
They should make a remake of the first game, I never played it.
This is a great original IP - sincerely hope they keep it alive somehow.
@PS_Nation A remake or remaster is a good shout. I think it's probably on the cards to be honest.
Oh yes please!
A really fun game, one of the hidden gems from the PS3 era.
@ShogunRok I hope so dearie.
yes.yes yes.one of the best game ever.make it happen.im still playing that game as a wizard.one of the best rpg ever made.word up son
This game was heavily underrated, solid game, really addictive gameplay.
One of the best if not the best RPG from last gen! Amazing combat...a sequel would make it even better I'm sure, with a better story and polished graphics the next one could really shine
Cracking game! Glad that it's not been lost and forgotten....hopefully they'll make a sequel for the ps4....
This was such a good game!!! I would be VERY interested in a remake, remaster or a new game altogether.
A remaster first i guess to test the water. 😁
If all they do is announce a Switch port I'm going to be so crushed...
I'll play a sequel, as soon as I finish doing my inventory management in the first game.
Seriously, I played that game for 150 hours but I think 50 hours was inventory management b/c my inventory was constantly full. Worst system ever.
I'd prefer a remaster rather than a sequel only because the original was super and they could mess up the second game (and stuff it full of microtransactions, online components).
Sorry but there so called Remasters are a little bit of a joke and run rubbish sometimes, all this is by Nordic is buy IPs and then remaster them for income. Remasters that never get good treatment and usually have new bugs along with the old ones. The red faction Gurillia remaster had poor framerate issues on PS4 and of the Darksiders 2 Deathfintive edition had issues more than the original and played slightly worse than the original.
@rjejr Huh, interesting, I definitely have had others I found much worse — Witcher 3, Skyrim come to mind immediately.
so the yank officials that gave away the locals money to fund this farce of a studio. I bet they will get SFA along with all the other people owed money by this idiots studio.
@doctommaso Oh no, don't tell me Witcher 3 is worse than that, I bought the Complete Edition but haven't started it yet.
Nice. It was a great high fantasy rpg. Fun story too. I also heard that Timesplitters was picked up as well. Bring back the classics!
dudddeeeee yes make it happen
I’m up for it if they also get the rights to Enslaved and make a sequel to that, too.
THQ Nordic the ultimate IP scavenger in gaming industry.. XD
I'm a fan for their efforts!
Incredible game! Sequel or remaster I'll be all over it
I remember it having some difficulty imbalance, but fondly recall the colourful gameworld and fast-paced combat.
@Bonbonetti Hard mode was rather easy to be honest once you got to like level 20 and had decent gear and moves sets but the world I loved just a shame the story was a little bland
This is one, with more development time it could have been one of the greats. Hopefully they don't rush this one.
