No Man's Sky's huge new content update, entitled NEXT, is finally upon us. This free expansion to the divisive space exploration game is ready for download right now on PS4.
In case you need a reminder, NEXT brings multiplayer, third person, character customisation, a graphical overhaul, and much more to the title. It's a massive update, and we're looking forward to getting to grips with all the changes Hello Games has made. The download comes in at about 9.7GB, which is actually larger than the entire game was at launch, which should speak to how big of an update this really is.
Are you hopping back into No Man's Sky to see what the NEXT update has to offer? Make a safe landing in the comments below.

I want to find the most Alien looking planet and H.R. Giger some buildings and invite all my friends for some creep out. (at 1:14 looks pretty close! (except that cactus ))
If the update is bigger than the game any chance it's re-writing most of the original game rather than just being additional GB of data? Anybody check the full game size before and after the update?
@rjejr whooooooooo carrrreeeeeessssssssssssss
BEYOND!!!
@MrJohnson71 Fake your death. Always works for me.
@MrJohnson71 I can think of 18.4 quintillion excuses
(most of them will be very, very similar)
@MrJohnson71 Pick any.

I'm looking forward to it as soon as I've finished head bobbing to tunes that Solomun is banging out in my new GTA nightclub.
@rjeir The file size is 14.06GB where before it was around 8GB so I think the update is added on top of the previous ones.
@Kidfried "Sorry Boss my Left Foot is Pregnant"
that works for me
Downloaded and installed, but running the game makes the fan on my PS4 Pro go into overdrive. So much so that I don't really want to risk starting the game up again. Anyone else getting this?
Yeah I got the loud fan on my Pro as well but it does quiten down after a few minutes.
Maybe I'm been dumb but does anyone know how to switch back to first person, can't find it in the menus and they can't of taken it out all together surely.
@FantasyMeister haven't tried this yet but my Pro is ridiculously loud on quite a few games. Actually to the point where I don't like playing too late at night any more because of the noise.
@roe This is the only game my Pro runs loud on
@adf86 Unfortunately my Pro continues to sound like a hairdryer even after 15-30 minutes, only way to fix it is to exit the game to dashboard and then enter rest mode for a bit
I've sent a support ticket to HelloGames, hopefully they'll look into it.
@adf86 It's in the utility menus: down on d-pad, go to utilities, change viewpoint.
@FullbringIchigo It's not about what you say, it's about how you say it!
@rjejr A previous update rewrote the foundation (it also destroyed that huge community built area) so they already did that. My old home planet was nice and after that update (I can't remember the update name), it was acid rain and storms and awful haha.
@FantasyMeister Sean Murray wants you to feel like you’re actually in a spaceship. The roaring fan and rumbling of your PS4 against the cabinet is all part of the immersion.
Maybe someday I'll play it again. Not now
Wasn't this game a piece of trash to begin with, I'm surprised people still care about this game
@GKO900 nope, it was pretty fun to begin with, now it's better. Boom town.
@FantasyMeister @roe do you perform maintenance on your ps4's? I've recently cleaned it pretty throughly and it's silent again!
@FantasyMeister Yes had the same thing to me as well !
@kyleforrester87 People with small...um...hard...things?
@adf86 So it's a hefty update then, not just a rewrite, thanks.
@rjejr I don't wanna know about your small hard thing, I have my own to deal with
the salt is still so strong with me re how they handled the release, that said, I MAY pop in a check it out on the w/e cos it does look like a completely different game
Game crashes after 2 mins. Just read a fix which says to delete save data from storage. Trying it now, hopefully it works or I'll be waiting for the next patch (not this NEXT patch, but the next patch )
Update: seems the deletion of saved data from storage has fixed the issue so far. Maybe the old saves weren't compatible?
@MrJohnson71 Glad I was able to help. So, how did you like NMS?
@MattyHammo Oh no. This was one of my fears. So the game has evolved so far that the old game saves are not even compatible? So you have to start all over from the beginning?
Great update but should have made restoring your archived base a lot easier its a pain in the ass.
@Th3solution
you can use old game saves. But a lot of materials and processes have changed. Your old base will have been archived and you need to find a base computer on your chosen new homeworld to reclaim your base. You can not put down a base computer though you need to find one. Which is hard as there does not seem to be a way to track them using scans.
@FantasyMeister
happens with a lot of games, fortnite uncharted etc. Its with games there are intensive with graphics or demanding.
Got the Platinum way back then, sold it afterwards. Now picked it up again for 14 bucks to see what all the fuzz is About.
It. Is. A. New. Game.
On one side that's cool because so much new content has been added. But on the other side, practically everything has changed, so you are almost starting from scratch: the materials, the blueprints, the components, etc.
All that hard work--gone. Yeah, I'm a little salty, but I will jump in with the new improvements and play with my friends. I did have fun last night.
@kyleforrester87 Asking for a friend.
@starhops "A previous update rewrote the foundation"
Thanks. Sorry about your home planet, sounds like it fell into a Ray Bradbury story.

I don't know why but I am excited for this.
